  1. It’s a special day here at BariatricPal, according to your profile..it’s your birthday. Happy Birthday, Ruthsdaughter3!

  2. I had surgery on July 16th and lost well the first two weeks, then I haven't lost anything in the last two and a half weeks. I have read that people have a stall at about three weeks, but do they last this long? I am trying to get more liquids in, but my rings are tight every morning, so I know I am retaining water. Also having trouble getting more than about 40 grams of protein in a day. I am thinking of trying more meat because I am really sick of my protein drinks and they only have 12 grams of protein anyway. Should a stall be this long when I just had surgery a month ago?

    My Surgery

Hi, I was sleeved July 16th by dr. Garcia as well. I have gone through kind of a depression where I felt stupid for doing this and not just dieting because when you are on the liquid phase and you have to do it, you are dieting and you could have done that without surgery, at least those were the thoughts I was having. I still struggle, but I am 25 pounds lighter since surgery (I didn't do a preop diet) and have 102 pounds to go to my goal of 130. I have started a stall, but it seems like everyone hits one at 3 weeks so I am trying not to worry, but of course I am worried anyway because it has been like a week since I lost anything. But I try to think that next summer is going to be really great when I can wear shorts and enjoy the hot weather. I think you will be fine in a week or two.

    Breakdown!

LIke you, I haven't worn sleeveless or shorts in forever -- probably 30 years. I always like the idea of summer but when it rolls around and I actually have to face being in a swim suit, I feel horrible. Now that I have the sleeve, I am looking forward to next summer when I can wear a cute suit and shorts and for the first time in ages, feel good in hot weather. I think it will happen for me and I think it will happen for you. Hang in there and try to remember that soon it will just be a memory that you can easily forget.

    Most Humiliating Fat Moment

One thing I noticed was that I got a lot more comments when I was in my 20's and 30's about weight than now when I am 52. I am more overweight than I was back then, but it really seems to bother people when they see a young person overweight. I always got the, "you have such a pretty face" routine from older women who were trying to convince me I needed to have the body to match. Young guys were the worst! When I was only 145 pounds and trying to jog to lose weight, I would get whale comments from guys driving by. I don't get any comments about my weight anymore unless I go to an Asian country -- they always say something and they think it is pretty funny too.
  6. My stomach hurts. It feels crampy and unsettled and I have been having heartburn. I am on my 17th day. Not sure what to drink or what to do. Anyone have ideas?

Thank you for writing to me! I am still feeling hungry, but when I eat soup, it just doesn't feel good, even though there are not chunks in it. I am still dreaming of chicken and shrimp. I had a protein shake today and that was fine, but took a long time to drink it all. I have already lost 15 pounds, so that is really good. I have 110 to go. I just wonder what does eating feel like when you are all healed up? I am committed to eating healthy then, but does every bite hurt? I had the band for 5 years and every single bite hurt especially if it was something fibrous like an apple, carrot, salad, or just about any meat. So it got to the point where I ate a lot of soft foods. I still lost all my weight, but I really didn't know ahead of time that I would not be able to eat salad and other fruits and vegetables. I hear everyone saying that they can eat anything with the sleeve, but I wonder if that is really true. Are there things you just can't eat? I don't mind giving up bread or pasta, but I want to be able to eat all the healthy foods and meat. I don't mind giving up sweets at all. Can you tell me what a typical day of eating is like? Then I also heard that it takes about a month for the ghrelin to leave your system, so do you have to remind yourself to eat, or are you thinking about it all the time? Thank you for your response before and I look forward to hearing from you again. Lisa

    New And Not Feeling Well

I just got the surgery in Mexico by Dr. Garcia on July 16, 2012. I have been adhereing to the liquid diet but I gained 27 pounds the first week. I started peeing a lot yesterday and lost 15 pounds and lost 15 pounds again today. I just don't feel well. I am walking around and even did a couple hours of gardening (light) yesterday, but I feel almost like I have the flu. I want to eat too, which is not what I am supposed to be doing right now and even drinking tea is kind of difficult. One drink goes down pretty well and the next is all bubbly and I don't have a sense of how I am supposed to drink, let alone get all of the liquid ounces in. I wish I could just take a hot bath. Does anyone know how long before you can bathe? I live in the Pacific Northwest and hope to find some support group here to meet with once in a while until I feel I understand how this is going to be to live with. I hope I didn't make a mistake. I had the lap band from 2001- 2005 when it slipped and I had to have emergency surgery to remove it. I was pretty scared to try another wls, but once I gained all of my weight back and tried for seven years to lose it, I decided on the sleeve. Any words of wisdom, support or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi All! I just had my sleeve in TJ on July 16, 2012. I am so hungry right now all I can think about it eating, but I can't even drink very much. My daughter made a delicious vegetable broth for me this afternoon and I felt great after that, but I am so hungry still. I also have a lot of water retention. I gained 27 pounds in a week that I had nothing but clear liquids and today I got up and 15 of that was gone. Did anyone else have such a massive gain while in the hospital? This is definitely not easy. I hope it gets easier. I have been kicking myself for doing something so drastric when I should have just been able to control my appetite, but I guess that's why we all are here. I live North of Vancouver in the La Center/Woodland area and would really like to meet some other people who have chosen this wls route. Please write to me and let me know if you would like to get together for some water soup or something. Hahaha!
