Thanks for both links. So now I wonder, since McAlister's does have a chain in some of the states requiring the info, why wouldn't they have it available? (I'm with you, Alabama doesn't wanna know LOL! I am surprised to see Tennessee on this list..) -
Yeah, I'd question the validity of the study. My sister is a lesbian-overweight but not obese- and all of her friends are gay men or women.. I have not met an overweight or obese girl she's brought home.. And out of all the women I know, the only obese ones I know are straight women. They need more data on how they polled the women. Where did the 6,000 women they polled come from? If you went to a gay bar for instance, and then went to a fitness club.. you see my point? (I majored in sociology and learned to be extremely skeptical of 'researches' which can be extremely bias.)

HELP Wedding two weeks after surgery
Daisalana replied to chickatee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
2 weeks out I am not too sore to do something like that. The only sore problems I have is sitting at my desk at work too long (I hit the desk with my belly when I'm pushed in to type) and it irritates my port incision. As for dress, try an empire waist dress.. They gather right under the breast and then flow down, easily hiding any tummy or whatever else you're wanting to hide! Or, if it's a small enough part, a formal pants suit works. -

Ooo the campbell's velvety potato soup IS AWESOME. On my pre-op diet, I had the liquid out of it for lunch most days. -

LOL from starvation? :rolleyes I appreciate the help and am interested in recipe stuff, I just want normal recipes. Recipes for people who don't own a spice rack.. recipe for people who don't go to organic stores with weird named foods. Recipe for people who don't know how to take apart garlic. For example, one thing I use to make a lot on Atkins.. was a cheese soup. Cook cream & shredder cheddar cheese in a saucepot, add salt & pepper, and sprinkle with bacon crumbs (found conveniently in those lil' bacon bits jars). That's how simple my cooking style is. -
I should add though, this is where my overlap of right-wing republican clicks in. I resent that the government is helping these drug addicts, and lazy mothers who won't get off their butt and get a job (yep, this is a gross generalization.. but if they implemented DRUG TESTING and TIME LIMIT on welfare, I would be more tolerant of it) I CHOSE not to do drugs. They could have too. There's no excuse for them becoming junkies and popping out babies so they can get paid the money out of MY paycheck. So I personally DON'T help these people--well I do indirectly, but I don't like it. But in your instance, I don't think religion is the excuse to do it. And if people want to help them, I'm for that too. I don't.
-
I think it's wrong, and I'm sure a lot of people disagree with me because they see it doing God's work or something. But I don't think anything should be shoved down anyone's throat. I don't like the missionaries (at my old church when I was younger) that did go to prisons and mission to them.. If you want to help them, go help feed starving people, if there's drug addicts who seek help, point them-or take them to a rehab facility. Help people. I'm for that! Religion doesn't have to be the reason for helping people.. and shouldn't be.

See, I thought there was a legislature that REQUIRED restaurants to make their nutritional info available. And from their website McAlister's is a nation-wide chain, so I am confused why they don't have it listed. You'd think if it wasn't by law, many fast food places wouldn't be listing it.. but this is the first place I've come across that did not publish their info on their website. It's in NY I believe they have banned trans fat, so McAlister's in NY I would think HAS to publish what is in it, since trans fat is illegal there. Hrm.. good query. About office food.. I'm there with you. Luckily, since they're all size 0's I never felt comfortable eating it anyway, so nothing's changed.. but the girls bring in a couple cakes, or boxes of donuts/danishes/etc.. in the break area by the coffee pot. I have asked the boss to put better stuff in the vending machines (The 'real' food vendor, has only burgers, burritos, 'grilled' sandwhiches that when you heat them up are a big ball of grease) not for health reasons, but because normally at work I don't want anything rich, I don't like getting out in traffic to go find food, I'm not a big fan of chips/candies for a meal, and as I said, the 'real' food machine has crap. He said he's been asked before, but they can't swing it right now. As for me learning to cook.. I don't have the time. It's not an 'excuse', it's just the way it is. Back in Atkins days, I tried the 'cook big, freeze, reheat', and I botch that too. It's never good the first time around, when I reheat it, it's junk and I end up buying food out. I don't have extravagent tastes. I hate rosemary.. I don't like chicken.. I don't like pork.. I'm not a lemon-pepper xxx eater, I don't eat fish.. All the recipes I ever find are for something I wouldn't like, and involve way too many ingredients. My granny (yes-granny!) is an old-school southern housewife. She is long retired, but is a 'maid' of sorts for all my family. They pay her to clean her house and cook them dinners (we're all workers with long hours). I hope to make enough $$ to hire her for myself one day.. She cooks a lot of good ol' southern style food.. very bad for you. But in the past couple of years her diabetes really hit her, so she became healthy in her home. She LOVES LOVES to cook, and new recipes, etc. I've told her recently I need her to find some recipes that I could easily make (crock pot is good for me), and are healthy. She apparently recently got some ultimate soup recipe book, and has been trying them out for me. She knows my tastes, and when she finds something she knows I would make and eat she's going to let me know. But I'm really a pain in the butt when it comes to food. If it's not fried and served with mashed potatos and butter, I get cranky LOL. I don't like anything they would list on TV. I like mac-n-cheese, meatloaf, pasta-roni, soups, sandwhiches.. things like that. If it's 'au' something, or like i said 'lemon-pepper xxx' or 'rosemary & thyme xxx' I'm not eating it! -
And that's where we'll agree. I don't like any religion being pushed on anyone. I think it's good to have the information out there, and if someone wants guidance they can find it. Even though I am Christian I get fumed when I find flyers for 'the good word' or a church on my door. If I was home when they put it there, I'd have given them quite a big piece of my mind. It seems it is normally Christians pushing for this (Opposed to the Buddhists, Athiests, etc.) I don't ever get flyers on my door talking about how Science is the only answer.. or Allah (sp) will show me the way. I would be equally mad at this too, which is why I can understand -even being a Christian-why prayer in the school is offensive. If they said everyone in the PUBLIC school had to pray to some other god, or to the trees, I would likely pull my unborn kids out of said school. So I see the argument for non-Christian families who do NOT want a religion they do not follow pushed on their offspring. But morals should be applied to all walks of life, not any one religion. On one hand that website is boasts Christianity because it just happens that the people there are Christians and together they want guidance for their thoughts :rolleyes , on the other hand I don't like its association with Christians as though that were an excuse :phanvan . That's another tangent though.

Oh, and since I decided to go off on a rant.. I have this website that has most places I've ever eaten, most of their menu and the nutritional info for the stuff. It's been a great help http://www.dietfacts.com/ I went to McAlister's (The place I was talking about getting soups), no nutritional info available, so I went to dietfacts.com and they have this for them: McAlister's Deli® (Nutrition Information is<!--s--> not available) We have attempted to collect nutrition information for this restaurant and received the following reply: "Thank you for taking time out of your day to contact us. At present, we do not have nutritional data for our menu items. However, we are keenly aware of customer interest in this information and it is a project we are working on. We hope to have the information within the next 12-18 months. As soon as the data is available we will post it both in our restaurants and on our website. Thank you for your patronage! Sincerely, McAlister's Corporation" -- So that makes me weary enough not to try it out till I get info!! -

It isn't any wonder America is so fat now. I dieted on and off forever, and to me, I thought the chili would be a LOT better than their burgers. But after looking through their nutrition.. (I also had gotten a strawberry yogurt milkshake.. which was 500 calories, so after 3 sips that was trashed too).. So here I was, THINKING I was doing good.. a chili instead of burger, and a yogurt milkshake.. if I had actually eaten it, that would have been about 1,400 calories. 200 more calories than I strive to eat each day.. in one meal.. DIETING. If I wasn't dieting and didn't think to look it up, I could have easily eaten 1,000's of calories from there in one sitting. Sheesh. Their jack cheddar melt is 1,300 calories. I don't know what their fries are, but a normal person at steak-n-shake gets their meal.. a burger, fries, and coke or shake (I'd guess more shakes since it is their name), and spend 2,000 calories in one sitting. I blame society darn it!!!!! Now I'm paranoid. Someone at work said this place down the road has amazing soups, I was going to get some to go but now I need to find their nutritional info online before I buy again. The big picture is a sad one. If you don't have time to cook (me), or can't cook (me again), the options are horrible.. HORRIBLE! My fiance still eats like I use to, because he's not doing my 'diet', and so he gets a couple meals from McDonalds or TacoBell on his way home, eats them all to himself, and I can only imagine how many calories that is. Where's the healthy fast food?? Even the 'healthy' choices from these places are bad. But people buy into it. -

Well, just to rain on your parade of working up the 'Christians'.. I am a right-wing republican and Christian. I also won't go to churches because of the hypocracy. Do not judge your brother. There's only one true judge. And thus, began my early recline from the churches. However, I do find some of these posts 'offensive' for lack of better words. I don't care to see them. The anti-Bush thread, I haven't even clicked on it. Why? Because it would probably piss me off, and that's not what I care to do. So I avoid that thread, and I'm glad people who are anti-Bush have a nice little place to talk about it. In the same light, I'm glad anyone and everyone can talk about whatever they're wanting around here! If the very word 'boylove' offends you, don't go there, don't find out what it is, and go about your merry way. I saw the sarcasm in the title, and wanted to know what it was about. The website is extremely bizarre, but knowledge is power. And since seeing that website, I've had some interesting debate about it IRL with my fiance (who is a right-wing republican but NOT a Christian, and that is what he sees it for-a way to blame the Christians for something else.) So in short, I may find it repulsive, but I'm always glad to know 'what's out there'. And I learned something new yesterday.

I never ate in the car.. I WOULD go to fast food and buy like 4 or 5 meals and ride home thinking about eating them all LOL. Speakin of which, I have started mushies, and I like chili. They just opened a steak-n-shake by my work, so on the way home I got 3 of their chili's. Figured I'd eat one last night, and one for lunch one for dinner today. WRONG!!! I get home, I'm eating it (I have no restriction anymore BTW so I could definitely eat the whole thing), and I'm on Myplate at the same time, plugging in that I'm eating it.. and I go to steak-n-shake's website to get nutrition info. Almost 900 calories in this bowl I'm eating!!! I wanted to throw it up instantly. I couldn't of course, but I stopped eating. I left the chili's in the fridge for fiance, I figured he'd eat them.. but I think I'm going to have to throw them out, as they're way too much temptation for me. How can 10oz of chili have almost 900 calories?! Most of their sandwhiches have HALF that amount. Eeesh. I'm afraid to look at Wendy's chili info now. -
I'm getting married in December, and one main reason I wanted this surgery is so I can walk again without hurting. Flashback to 3 years ago, before I got back injections, I was literally crippled.. I couldn't walk for more than 5 minutes without being in blinding pain. Me and my fiance met in Las Vegas.. We would go back every year around the same time (My birthday), stay at the same hotel (which is crappy, but it was memorable for us-) Sahara, and that was kind of our 'thing'. In 2005 we went, and I hurt so bad from walking, I made the trip miserable for us. Walking from our room down to the casino was unbearable, much less walking the strip to go anywhere (and we didn't include cab fair in our 'money to take', because it's Vegas and you're suppose to walk!!), at some point we had to walk through the Forum to get to the monorail or something, and that walk, I don't know how far it was, but I literally was sobbing and having to stop every few steps to lay down on the floor (yes, in the mall).. that was my first breaking point, when I found a doctor to give me injections to numb my back. The injections seem to work about 8 months for me, till I have to get new ones. The last one wore off in January 07, I had gained even MORE weight, so I was getting this surgery come hell or high water. I was already getting info on getting the surgery, but planned back injections for March.. I got the injections and this time they didn't work. I'm not at the full blown pain as I was pre-back injections, but it's bad enough pain that I can't walk for long periods of time without hurting. I have a crooked spine, tilted hips, one leg shorter than the other due to this, all this excess weight, and 2 bulging disks. Everyone keeps saying most of this will correct itself when I lose weight and quit holding myself odd (I always shift my weight to my left side from the pain). So that was the long story. We're not 'go out and do things' people, we're happy hanging out at home, playing computer, watching tv. Playing in the yard with our dog, things like that. But we've started thinking about our honeymoon. My goal by then, is to have lost enough weight to walk for periods of time without dying of the pain. Since I haven't thought about doing a vacation that involves walking, I don't even know where to begin. He wants to do Vegas since I made him skip this year, it's where we met, yadda yadda. We could do shows and walk the strip, watch the night show in downtown.. and if my back isn't hurting, this sounds great! But I want some other ideas to think about to. Anyone got any fun ideas? My parents did an amusement park hop for their honeymoon (they were 18 when married), hit Six Flags, Disney World, and all the little places in between. I don't particularly love rides, so I don't really want to do that. It will be in Winter, so that has to come into consideration too. Any ideas? :nervous

http://www.vigorousliving.com/idsnewwhlipr1.html This is where I bought them. You might be able to get them cheaper somewhere, this is just where I decided to get them. That's the 42g. I got the fruit punch. Works fine for me. I also bought a pack of the 25g blue raspberry, because I like blue raspberry (normally). They weren't good and its a lot harder to get a whole tube instead of half. So I plan to keep buying the 42g fruit punches. -
Who has had to have a full incision instead of the lap method during surgery?

Daisalana replied to BRANDYK's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor said at 10cm+ you are high risk for having to do it open.. he said my liver was 9.6cm, so told me to diet to shrink my liver. I started immediately (instead of just 2 weeks out) because I did NOT want to be cut open. I had to sign a waiver that if they needed to, they could convert from lap to open during surgery.. not close me up and reschedule. He said he's only had to do it 6 times out of approx. 3,000 (which includes rny and lap-band). One of the first things I did when I woke up, was ask the nurse or whoever that was (I was still fuzzy) if I was able to do it laproscopically. -

Almost any whiskey with water will do. Any hard liquors on the rocks or straight up should be fine. Beer seems to have a lot of calories, but from what I remember hard liquors really didn't have a lot of calories in them. I might be confusing it with carbs!?! http://www.dwlz.com/WWinfo/liquor.html Blood mary looks good and doable. and then there's a long list to think of other drinks you like. I'm not much of a drinker, so I don't know anything fancy lol.
