Can you ever drink through a straw again?
Daisalana replied to Maurdan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The dietician was telling me and this other girl rules.. other girl was getting RNY, so some comments were directed to one or the other. When she said no drinking in straws (they DID tell me this), I asked why. She said the air will hurt blah blah.. I said oh.. ok. So I didn't try drinking through a straw for about 4 weeks. Then I did. No Pain.. I like drinking my SF kool aid or crystal light through a straw.. so I can have ice in it, and not worry about hurting my teeth. No problems here! -
If I haven't eaten, I can guzzle water infinitely. Goes right through! So during a workout, you should not have a problem drinking as much water as you want as long as you didn't just eat.. I don't typically drink around when I eat, but the other night after eating a sandwhich (about 20m) I drank some water and it all got stuck and came back up. So if there's food in there, like they said, don't drink!

I feel like I need to burp, before, after, during a meal?
Daisalana replied to Surfin Sarah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I burp constantly too. I don't feel like I'm restricted enough yet, so not sure about that theory.. but I burp after every drink of anything.. and within 20 minutes of eating, I'm burping quite a bit. My family's getting use to it, I don't hold back.. I just let them rip! I don't think about it anymore really, and I'll be in public and let out a huge burp and then it hits me.. hehe. -
I'm too proud to wear jewelry like that.. maybe proud isn't the word, I don't like wearing jewelry and I know it'd be a waste of my money. I did print out a photoshopped card I made, with the little medical emblem on it that has my information, emergency contacts, the meds I take, and that I've had gastric-banding. It has my doctor's # on it for reference.. I guess if they read it, and don't know what the banding is, or need to know information on the placement and I'm knocked out, they could call him. I put it in a noticable spot in my wallet, but I've never been in an accident so I don't know that they'd even look. But I feel a little better knowing it is there, in case they're looking for info.

Stuffed zuccini sounds divine.. I LOVE zuccini.. and italian sausage. We're going grocery shopping tonight, we didn't buy very much when we moved since we knew we were going out of town for a while, so I'm looking up recipes to make.. got one now!! Mdrai- We used the whipped cream cheese, but either one you get, the recipe tells you to beat (in a blender) the cream cheese with the 2 sugars.. then mix in by hand the grapes and walnuts. I don't know if the whipped version comes light or low-fat which is how we're making it this Sunday, but either way just leave it out for about 10 minutes to soften it a bit then blend. I was skeptical of this salad at first, but once I took a bite I was in a food heaven LOL! So far today, it's 11:30 and I've had a bottle of water, a cup of coffee with non-dairy creamer and sweet-n-low, and 5 cigarettes! Been pretty busy today, one of my main CSR's (Customer Service Rep) was fired while I was gone, so I'm having to take care of my customers while they're getting use to whatever new CSR they were assigned.. plus they will be getting a new CSR soon, the assignment is temporary.. it's a headache.. and every other customer wants to know why she was fired, and of course we can't give out info.. so I just have to chit chat and laugh and make small talk and say "I don't know, they didn't tell us"..then listen to them speculate why they think she was fired. Weee!! Last month was my worst sales since I've been here, and I was going up in great intervals 15-20k more each month...I was bummed, then I found out June is the slowest month for this business, and everyone's numbers are always down in June. So far from the daily reports, I'm back on track for July. Whew. Our busy season starts in August.. when I started last June, I didn't get my first customer until about September, and it was a slow start. I had comparible sales with the alumni sales around January of this year, so this will be my first busy season with a lot of customers. I'm very anxious.. come on $$!!! Got an engagement ring and lay-z-boys to pay off (which came yesterday and OMG I love em).. and then I want to get a new bed... I always have a list of things I want, I love decorating the house.. and it seems by time I pay off some furniture I'm ready for something new. We have a queen bed, and it's so uncomfortable, we have had it for 2 years.. it's one of those stupid designs you can't flip over because one side is hard and flat like a boxspring. I noticed though, more and more people are going to that. It's so silly and wasteful.. Our bed is worn out on the side we sleep on, and I should be able to flip it over!!!! My walking back pain is gone, I was so excited.. the whole time in vegas we walked miles and miles to and from casinos.. and I never had my excruciating back pain which I normally get from walking in a grocery store for 5 minutes. That was the biggest NSV for me since surgery. Yay for the weightloss But, I do get horrible back pains from my bed still. I blame the bed though. -
I agree! My next fill is Aug 6. I'm slowly getting there, I'm eating less than I was since my last fill, but I still don't get the restriction throughout the day.

Couple other things.. Here's a recipe that I am in love with.. it's normally made with normal sugar (mom makes it for cookouts lately) but this past weekend I asked her to try splenda, and it tasted 100% the same.. and soo much better than with sugar. It's red grapes, cream cheese (normal, but next weekend I asked her to try the light or low-fat), chopped walnuts, white sugar (splenda), and brown sugar (splenda version of this is only 5c lower, so we use normal). It's like eating icing with grapes in it. I LOVE IT. It's so rich too, so I can only eat about 1/2 cup at best. If you like grapes, and the cream cheese icing--you'd love it. I hate nuts, but in this salad I love the walnuts. Today's menu for me.. frappucino for b'fast 180c and 8g protein. Lunch was an arby's roast beef sandwhich with only 1/2 the bun.. but I got a little bit stuck and have been spitting up in my work trash can, so only ended up eating 3 bites. Now I'm working on my 1 potato cake (gave the other to DH <-- DH!!!). His brother is in town for the week, so I've been cooking at night for all 3 of us.. tonight will be salsbury steak with green beans and asparagus..been trying to make more veggies without the carb things lately.. typically I make meat, 1 veggie, 1 rice or potato. The guys don't like it very much, but I give them extra helpings of the meat to make up for it and they survive! I have been doing pretty good really, like I said not eating much on the vacation and now I'm eating smaller portions since my last fill. YAY! So it is working SOME. Not a LOT though, I get hungry still throughout the day, but I can't eat as much as last fill. -

Oh also, I know I've lost more weight lately.. we walked miles and miles everyday in Vegas and I was unable to eat most of the time since I got sick that one day I was anti-meat for the whole trip.. and the room service (Which is all we ate), had very little that appealed to me. I'd have a bite or two of fruit, or a cheese and cracker. Today I'm wearing some jeans, I haven't fit into in years, and about 3 weeks ago I was able to put them on, they were tight, but livable. Today I put them on, and they're not tight at all!! So.. I know I've lost weight since my last fill, I still need more fill, and my next appt. is Aug 6... but I also threw away my scales before we left for our wedding because it pissed me off LOL. So now it'll be a surprise to see what I weigh on Aug 6! -

Just an interesting tidbit, at our family cookout Sunday my sister brought a picture from me last summer. I'm wearing a tube top in all my glory, I am SO fat.. and my face is SO wide.. it's weird. So we all looked at it, and no one notices my weight loss since they see me every day.. so after looking at it, everyone was like WOW.. you really have lost weight! Pff.. so like I'd been lying, my mom goes "I was wondering if you'd really lost that much weight, but I can definitely tell from this picture". Hah.. then I burned the picture LOL! -
I am on fill 2 and still don't feel the restriction. In the mornings I am tight, but after about 11am it's like I don't have the band. That being said, I do eat sandwhiches. And if I am not careful- SMALL bites.. it does get hung up. I had a PB&J sandwhich for dinner last night, I ate it without incident, didn't feel like it was stuck or anything, but about 20 minutes after I ate I took a big swig of water, and I realized my pouch was full or whatever.. I had to go 'spit up' all of the water, it was making a horrible pain in my chest from mixing with the sandwhich. Sometimes things like this surprise me, since I don't feel like I'm restricted.

Hey guys! Just got in a couple hours ago, doing the post-wedding stuff (e-mailing pics to family who hasn't seen them, blah blah, unpacking). But I made collages to easily send a bunch of pics to family and thought I'd share them here. I am putting links so I don't spam up this thread with pictures!! Enjoy Getting ready.. hair, make up, some bridal shots (notice the sweat beads..grr) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/fairyfacade/weddingcollage1.jpg Groom, best man/ maid of honor, dad giving me away, exchanging rings.. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/fairyfacade/weddingcollage2.jpg The ceremony, the sand ceremony, leaving (yes I was so hot and that is a 'get me out of here!' look on my face) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/fairyfacade/weddingcollage3.jpg Just a recap for anyone who missed it, it was record heat in vegas, 115-116 degrees and SOME REASON the owner of the Wynn (Mr. Wynn) decided he didn't want them wasting money on a/c, so it was about 100 INSIDE the place. They are going to get one helluva nasty letter from me. Wedding party pics/family pics: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/fairyfacade/weddingcollage4.jpg Posed shots after the wedding: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/fairyfacade/weddingcollage5.jpg Bride & Groom pics.. one in front of the Wynn: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/fairyfacade/weddingcollage6.jpg More bride & groom pics: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/fairyfacade/weddingcollage7.jpg Some fun shots.. limo, sitting at a slot: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/fairyfacade/weddingcollage8.jpg Garter thing.. I wore it for my 'something blue' but didn't intend to do anything with it.. then fiance said he was lookin forward to the taking it off or something, so we went to the high roller slots ($100+ bets), and did a little photo op with it.. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/fairyfacade/weddingcollage9.jpg Me taking a neat picture with the city through the window and us in the reflection, us doing a $100 bet on the high roller machine for wedding good luck or something (we didn't win!), and my ring put together... http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/fairyfacade/weddingcollage10.jpg Whew! I'll catch up tomorrow on the thread, have a good night guys!! -

Morning Violets! Just saying goodbye.. we leave for Vegas in an hour.. Next time I post, I will be a MRS! I'm all packed.. we decided to ship our dresses next-day.. took them to the UPS store.. took us about 30 minutes to pack it up.. huge box, taped the hangers to the outside of the box and lots of packing paper.. they put 'this side up' and 'fragile' stickers, but I'm still scared... if the box flips upside down the dresses will be in a ball on the bottom of the box. Also about to check the tracking to make sure it's going to deliver today. Good thoughts that it gets there fine!! Also I don't like flying, even though I've done it most of my life.. so I have a lot of anxiety during the flight. I got half a xanax from my sister, so going to take that before we board.. and on the way back I'm going to get drunk in first class LOL. My dad left this morning early by himself.. then my mom, g'ma, sister and her gf, bro and his fiance, and my uncle are all flying on a flight in about an hour.. then me and my fiance fly out in 2 hours. It would have been easier on my nerves if we were with the rest of them. Everyone stick to your band rules while I'm gone, and no major crisis-es  -

Judy- Aww! A friend of mine is going to a wedding on 7/7/07 in Hawaii too. My dad actually IS wearing a hawaiian shirt! He is known for his parrothead ways.. he always wears hawaiian shirts, he literally has about 300 of them. So this morning I picked out one for him to wear under his suit.. he's going to wear a pale blue one that has the hibiscus(sp?) in navy blue colors.. my sister's bridesmaid dress is pale blue and my mom's MOTB outfit is navy blue...so he's going to kind of tie everyone together. In other news, since surgery I've complained about my erratic periods.. well, just started up again today.. no surprise.. RIGHT BEFORE MY WEDDING! SIGH.. going to ruin everything, it's so heavy and doesn't let up for 2 weeks.. there goes the honeymoon, right? I called my gyno and asked for something to stop it since I'm so unregulated right now, she called in something for me.. I get it tonight.. I'm crossing my fingers it works.. she said it likely won't stop it by Thursday but it should at least lighten it. GRRRR!!!!! -
melissa- YES! I have been paranoid for at least a month--thinking my band slipped, I stretched my esophogus into a pouch, etc.. because I have had NO restriction even after my 1st fill. Yesterday due to not being able to find the port, my doctor had to do fluero.. and so we got to see my stomach on the screen. I held my breath, just waiting to find out it's all messed up and my journey is over before it started.. I know how you feel!! But there it was.. he said the angle is perfect, its working perfect, the stomach looks perfect.. WHEW. So it was all in my head and in the lack of fill. Hope that helps you, because before yesterday I've been so paranoid. I'm at 2.5cc and today at lunch I think I ate less than usual.. Fingers crossed it lasts all day!

Well first, it's illegal to download these things without paying for it. Peer to peer music sharing is illegal. Second.. I work for a media packaging company, and I must say I FROWN (hehe) on all this illegal downloads, and even Itunes. Go buy CD's and DVD's.. Keep me employed!!

Will I be too sick Post opt to drive myself home 1000+ miles?
Daisalana replied to vixie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First- I would not have been able to drive after surgery. Second- I lived 3 hours from my surgeon, so I did have to ride in a car 3 hours on the way home. My doctor said it was very important for me to get up and walk around every 30 minutes to keep from getting blood clots. Those 3 hours were a little rough. I kept a pillow on my stomach as we drove, but my mom's jerking driving (stop-go-stop-go) from high speeds, wasn't very pleasant. I was also very tired and sore.. I really really do not recommend the driving, it would be dangerous at best. -

Kat- She'll be in my thoughts, hopefully it's just viral!! About hiccups, I get them when I eat too fast.. not like pre-band, where of course if you eat really quick when you're really hungry you get hiccups (or I did anyway).. but now, it's not super-fast eating, but if I'm really hungry-like when I get home from work and eat dinner.. if I eat 'faster than normal' I will get hiccups for long periods of time.. none of the old remedies work.. I just have to wait it out. Slows me down everytime though! -

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Daisalana replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No time to catch up right now, getting ready for the wedding- yay! But wanted to let you know how my 2nd fill went. Went down there.. He jabbed me 6-8 times with the needle, no numbing, with me clenching my body up and trying to balance my legs in the air, and remembering to breath.. oh boy. My body was shaking and since there were so many jabs I was SO sore by the 4th one. It hurt just to touch it lightly, and he was pushing down to locate the port.. so.. by 7th jab, he decides I need to do fluero! I was excited that he'd fill me accurately using it, but I guess that's not how he does it.. he said he just wanted to do it to locate the port  So I have to go to the hospital, he was to meet me there, but he took an hour to get there.. zzzz. I was literally falling asleep in the chairs, I am just exhausted today for some reason. So I finally get it done.. they let me watch on the screen too, so that was fun. He numbed me this time, since I was so sore from the previous jabs.. so I got to watch without flinching, I didn't feel the needle go in.. he said I lost 1cc (just disappeared).. so I was at .5cc.. he said he added 1cc.. I said.. since I haven't felt restricted from 1.5cc and there's no tellin when 1cc 'disappeared', is 1.5cc total this time going to do anything? And I have lost 1.5lb since my last fill (june 5).. so 1 month and 1.5lb..argh. He agreed that is not acceptable! So.. he said, let's watch barium stuff go down.. First, I was so glad to SEE my band. I don't know about you guys but I've been so paranoid.. since I don't feel restriction I wonder if it's because I slipped, or I made my esophogus into a big stomach (things I've read).. but there it was, he said it was in perfect position, and the stomach looks great! WHEW!!! So then I sip, we watched.. it went right through, with this thin trail behind it.. he said something about that's good that's what he wants-- I don't understand it. I want it to get stuck LOL! So, he said he's gonna put more in. So jabs me again- don't feel it. Gives me another 1cc. We watch it go down again. Looks the same! He said he didn't want to overfill me before my wedding and have me be sick! Told him we're not doing any fancy dinners or anything, so if I'm too tight, I'll be fine. I'm at 2.5cc now. Hopefully this works..fingers crossed.. my stomach is sooo bruised right now. -

Also meant to mention but got side tracked by the excitement LOL. My fills don't hurt that bad. He doesn't do numbing stuff-but will if I want him to. I wanted to do it without numbing, I've heard people say the numbing is the 'worst part'.. so.. When he jabbed the needle in, I was fine, then when he was 'scraping' on the port I guess.. it was an incredibly odd sensation but did not hurt.. then he had to jab the needle 'quickly' 2 more times re-positioning.. by the 3rd one, I gasped a little bit, it was a lot of pressure, but it was not like an 'ow!'. Plus he was having me 'suck in' my gut and clench my muscles with feet in the air. Whew. 5 minutes after, I was sore for the rest of the day, like someone punched me. Not a big deal though, I don't dread going to get fills. -

Fingers crossed on that Lunasa  Stupid me, found the scale while unpacking last night. 301.5lb. DAMN IT ALL TO HELL! I threw it in the trashcan. Yup, that's it. I'm tired of checking the scale and throwing a tantrum. Get my next fill Monday.. come on number 2! I am the same way, I thought the 1st fill would be 'it'.. I have the smaller band, and doctor said he thinks I will have good restriction before even 1 fill.. since I didn't, I thought.. 1 fill will be perfect.. WRONG! So, 2nd hopefully helps.. if not, 3rd! or 4th! I am going to get this sucker filled to the max if that's what it takes! We went to TGIF's for lunch today. It's right across the street from work. There was a shooting there a couple months ago, 2 people died. It was a dispute about a girlfriend cheating or something, but they ended up shooting 2 waiters, and 2 random people at the tables.. and like I said, killed 2.. I had commented how it didn't really hurt business.. they re-opened a week later, and that place is always packed when we go. So anyway, we go for lunch, it's NOISY and sooo packed.. I was getting a headache. And someone dropped their chair.. I guess the chairs are heavy and with the floors being wood, it was just a loud POW! No bouncing, or echoing,etc.. and the ENTIRE place was dead silent. You could have heard a fly on the other side of the room. I thought.. if people think this is another gun shot, why aren't they diving under the table? I mean, I didn't. I thought something was dropped till everyone went dead quiet, then I was like uhoh what??! Anyway.. Next week I only work on Tuesday. Monday is day off to go get Fill 3 hours away, Wednesday holiday, and Thursday I am OFF TO VEGAS!!! Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait. -
I can't wait till the day LOL. My doctor doesn't do them with fluoro unless you've gotten something wrong going on. I'm going to try 3 fills without, and if I'm still getting upset about no restriction I'm going to ask him to do it with fluoro.
-
I had a PB&J sandwhich for lunch yesterday with no problem-just had to eat it slower than ever. To me, that's a sure sign I need a fill!! I wish I got golfballs from hell when I ate bread!!
