Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Daisalana replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Jennifer (HUGS) Chica- Interesting read, my brain was trying to do conversions at a loss, so had to skip to the conclusion lol. I can't drink any cold cold drinks, it hurts my teeth! I've always ordered drinks with 'no ice' since I was a kid. All my drinks are at room temperature, so I guess I'll have to rely on exercise to burn calories! -
I told everyone at work I was having weight loss surgery. Several wanted the details of what lap-band is (all these skinny girls, no one knows about WLS lololol)..so I told them. I'm not ashamed! Only downside (and only really), is when they ask for an update on how much I've lost. I don't want to talk numbers till I'm done. But for the most part they all make comments about how good I look, etc. So I'm glad I told them, it's a good reinforcer to hear them notice!
-
Oh and tolerance DEFINITELY is different now, one drink gets me loopy and giggly.. actually 2 sips really. It use to take 3-4 drinks for me to get loopy. It's quite amusing.
-
I can/have had alcohol since banding. I avoid the carbonation, like I do cokes. Mixed drinks with no hidden calories -like the froofy fruity things!.. Alcohol isn't good for weight loss in general, so I wouldn't recommend drinking all the time.. but on vacation I would/do!
-
What an amazing difference, I've said it before :girl_hug: You look great, congratulations!
-
I'm 23 and was banded 4 months ago. I also don't find anything shameful about it, and everyone in my life knows about it. So far so good, I think this was a great decision, and I wish I'd known of lap-band when I was 18.. I'd have done it then!

Post-surgery with minimal weight loss
Daisalana replied to kreich's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry, the days of woe and second guessing yourself are inevitable. I remember having them a lot last month, right after I threw away my scale. I ended up losing 8lbs last month which was a nice boost. But point is, I've had 3 fills now.. and still not where I need to be with restriction. I've finally come to terms with myself to just be patient(which I am NOT). But.. do as I say, not as I do. Be patient Until you're properly restricted, you're going to worry that it's not going to work, that you wasted time (maybe money), you're letting yourself down, you're a failure, etc.. It comes with the territory. It will get better.. go browse before and after pics, it always gives me a good boost! -
The bump I thought was the port post-op, was swelling from something else. The swelling went away and now there's nothing visible from the surgery except scars. You can feel the port if you push into my stomach though (and that is very painful for me).
-
-Main reason was the unbearable back pains.. At 20 (now 23), I was feeling like I was 80.. couldn't walk for more than a minute or two without bawling and wanting to kill myself from the pain. Which is officially gone now, in only 40lbs. -Another reason is because I want to be active enough to see the world. Not only did my body feel 80, I chose to act 80 because of it.. Never wanted to go anywhere I had to walk around, no sight seeing etc. Those are things I use to enjoy and can't wait to get back into. -I want to have children in a few years and do not want to risk complications due to weight. -Diabetes is rampant in my family, I was 'pre-diabetic' which I didn't realize actually meant something.. so I'm nipping that in the bud RIGHT NOW! -Someone else mentioned it, I never thought of it.. but so true.. the COST of plus size clothes is a pain. Although I have to get extended inseams for height and I wonder if they charge more for that too? -Been overweight my whole life, and was itching with curiosity to see what it felt like to be an 'average' weight
-
I don't know personally.. but pre-op my doctor did address this. He said for RNY anyway, he's had a lot of marriages end in divorce after the woman dropped weight. But, from what he said it was more the woman 'settled' because she couldn't get anything better, then they lost weight and hit the road. Doesn't sound like your scenerio, so I would not worry! (Like me, I am not worried). But, I also know my husband doesn't have a jealous streak, he trusts me.. I have been hit on and gone out with old boyfriends to 'catch up', and he doesn't bat an eye. So in our relationship, I don't see him caring if I get more attention! Sex life is better though.. I'm more bendy

Kat you look AWESOME! I can only hope to put a dent in my weight in a year like that!! I don't know if anyone heard in the news, how Alabama is doing the campaign "Taking Back Our Highways"? Well.. it's stupid, really. From aug 13 (today!) till like.. 21st? I don't remember end date.. All the state troopers are coming out of the woodwork, and pulling people over for LITTLE THINGS. They said if we go ONE mile an hour over the speed limit, we will be fined. *I* say kiss my white butt, if you pull me over for going 71 in a 70, I WILL FIGHT IT. But anyway.. all these really stupid things.. We're all rolling our eyes at it. They said they're trying to 'do away' with the belief you can go 5-10 miles over the speed limit. NOT IN MY LIFETIME! Hehe. I have a convertible and I'm a speed demon.. but after 3 tickets before I was 20, I finally locked my brain into 7 miles over the speed limit. Now they think they will take that away?! PFF! So anyway, on our way to work this morning (DH drives), we take the interstate.. on the ramp up to the interstate, there were 7--- 7!!!!! State troopers sitting right there on our ramp. This is going to be a loooong week. I think I'll have to make DH drive until this 'campaign' is over.. cause I know if they pulled me over for something so silly, I would go crazy on them. -
Dr. Adams is not taking any patients.. I finally got a hold of them, the lady said he is only doing people he had a backlog of, but no one new.. and so, he won't do my fills either. I called 4 more doctors that are closer than my current and 2 said no, 2 said they'd call me back (one of them twice now) and no one calls me back. This is so annoying.

What was your FAVORITE in Mushy stage?
Daisalana replied to bradskoam's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mashed potatos, and Wendy's chili were my favorite. -
LOL, I don't have kids, and I'm not really around them..So I'm not sure about the 'running around' part, she just mentioned needing a decoy and I was covering the food disguise. True, chili isn't a summer food really.. but it came to mind Tuna salad?
-
If I hadn't done this.. and this is only 4 months out.. -I'd still have my crippling back pain, and my body feeling 60 even though I'm only 23 (most important thing to me, and if I didn't lose another pound, it was all worth it.. well of course, if I never gained another pound either) -I wouldn't be able to wear my 1st major goal pair of skinny jeans I've never been able to squeeze into..that I was able to wear today! -I'm sure there will be more to come

Whats the biggest weight loss myth you have ever heard?
Daisalana replied to She Smiles's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Glad you guys bumped this thread, I never saw it before! A lot of great laughs for sure!! No one has ever told me they think I'm taking the easy way out with the lap-band.. they do ask how much I've lost more than I'd like to hear, but c'est la vie (or whatever!). I've tried a lot of things through the years.. Took every legal form of speed in the 90's and 2000's.. Metabolife, Yellow Jackets, etc. etc. Then when they banned ephedra, I was getting it smuggled style... then they made it legal again. Cabbage diet, tried that.. I love cabbage soup, but this diet didn't last with me. I've tried some diet my granny got from the hospital, they made her go on it to lose weight for heart surgery.. Similar to the other version of cabbage soup someone listed here.. eat all fruits day 1, except bananas...etc.. Well my DH was trying to be supportive, we were on day 1.. nothing but fruits! I made a nice fruit salad to keep on hand.. we ate several oranges and pears.. That night we were fighting over our 1 toilet. In fact, he went in his pants without even realizing it till it happened. Talk about flushing your system out! BLEH! So we stopped that diet. Atkins did work for me, but I could not stick to it for life--like you're suppose to. And of course, the minute I was off Atkins.. over the next 12 months I gained all 70lbs back plus 30 more for good measure. I've tried countless other diet pills too.. Carb blockers, Trimspa (pff..), smartslim, etc.. The way I saw it--and I knew it when buying this junk.. if they ever actually MADE A PILL THAT MADE YOU LOSE ALL THE WEIGHT THEY ADVERTISE.. it would be in the newspapers.. and not in a paid advertisement. Also tried slimfast, my aunt actually did really well on that and has maintained her weightloss... didn't work for me. -
Yup, my g'ma's homemade mac & cheese pie was and is still a favorite of mine. She makes it almost every sunday for our family cook out.. I use to be able to eat a whole half of the dish to myself!! Now I eat about a 2inx2in square, and it's a little more work.. I've not chewed enough once and it wasn't a pleasant feeling.. I take smaller bites and enjoy the flavor more now

OMG!!! Remember the jeans I couldn't wear, yadda yadda, my goal was to be able to wear them to the Incubus concert end of this month? Well for those who do.. I had lost the jeans in the move, I had them in one of the millions of bags of clothes we never unpacked. Today I was in the closet hanging up a new jacket I got, and I saw them peeking out of a bag. So I dared them... And???? THEY FIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! **PERFECTLY** Not too tight, not too big. Just right. It was amazing. I danced around and kicked my legs up so I could see them in the mirror (they're really hot bell bottoms that sit low on the waist and give me the 'illusion' of butt!) I was so excited, I just had to share with you guys before I hit the sheets. Taking my niece to Chuck-E-Chz in the morning. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! -

Kat- WOW on the elliptical. That thing kills me. When I go to the gym, I get on it, and I try to do the easiest I can.. longest I've lasted is 3 minutes. And if I go back the next day, it's not even 1 minute, all of a sudden those same muscles just give out on me. 15m on that is QUITE A WORK OUT! GO YOU! -

Judy- Glad you're ok!!! And nice boat My niece is flying into town today. She is 6 years old.. we haven't seen her since she was less than 1. She lives in New Jersey with her mom.. She'll be here for a week, we're taking her to Chuck-E-Cheese Saturday. I'm excited and nervous. She doesn't know any of us, so I wonder how smooth this transition will be.. -

:faint: You win terri!!!!! I do a lot of x-mas shopping on e-bay.. so throughout the year it's only used for odds and ends (home decor, routers, etc.) My best finds on e-bay were some diaries from the 1800's. They're really neat. And some other antique-y stuff I bought. I avoid clothes on e-bay.. I spend a lot of time browsing e-bay, and sometimes google a product I like and find it cheaper somewhere else (because they don't charge outrageous shipping). Only had 1 bad thing on e-bay, which makes my feedback 99% after 6 years :tea: Some guy sent me leather biker gloves I bought, and they were so cheap when I put them on, it left dye all over my hands.. so I left him negative feedback, he left ME negative feedback saying I must be a glove expert. Doesn't take a genius to know when something is crap quality.. but whatever. -
Take notes :tea:

After a fill, do you ever feel........
Daisalana replied to zackeysmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After this 2nd time where they decided they had to do fluero again (which means after all the poking I have to meet them at the hospital), they said it looks like my port is tilted now.. forward and to the side a little. They said it's not a big deal, they just keep hitting the rim when they think they're getting it. Maybe since I haven't had enough of a fill to feel 'tight', is why I don't hurt.. when they withdraw the saline inside to measure, I don't feel anything at all (like you said you feel it empty). When they fill it back up, I only feel the gurgling, not a tightening feeling.
