I shop at Wal-Mart regularly. First off, our Wal-Mart competitors are Kroger for groceries, and Target for 'other stuff'. The nearest Target to me is a good 20 minute drive, and Wal-Mart is 1.5 miles away. So Wal-Mart wins there. We have Publix-which is the only store I know of in Northern Alabama that actually takes stuff to your car for you.. and I always ask them not to, because that's a new concept to me and it emberasses me. I'm quite capable of pushing my cart and loading my car!! Kroger however, their produce section is ABSOLUTE CRAP.. not to mention, I hate that they have the 'Kroger Plus Card', which means they jack up all of their products, and unless you have a Plus Card on you, you have to pay the jacked up prices. But back to produce, which is important in my cooking.. Kroger's has a small thinned out selection, and 99% of it is already rotten/moldy/turned. I can never find grapes, squash, or onions there that I would dare to eat. So back to Wal-mart I go. That being said, I still HATE Wal-Mart. I wish I had more options. Wal-Mart is always so crowded, and for as long as it's been around, they NEVER have enough cashiers. It's not for lack of money, so I don't get it. Even the cashiers will complain with you. You have to wait in a 45 minute line to check out at ours. Since we do grocery shopping, that's a pain in the butt time to wait with your frozen goods. Also, we also now have self-check out. Anyone ever try this? It's got too many bugs to be useful. Heaven forbid they hire some employees. I have done self-check out if I only have 1 or 2 items.. but since people with full buggies now use self check-out, and every other item needs a cashier to come over and type in a code.. by time I get up there, I've waited the 45 minutes and could have just gone and stood in a line where someone else does the work. If they had a mom & pop store locally where I could get my groceries, and stuff for my pets at the same place, I would most definitely use them. Unfortunately, Wal-mart put all of these places out of business.. so we have to put up with their crap.

roflmao Haven't seen that commercial, but thats the stuff that bothers me! Just cause I'm plus size doesn't mean I store food in all the folds of my clothes, or that I wear panties bigger than a child.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Oy!! I just had to e-mail one of my professors because some video she wants us to watch DOES NOT WORK. Me and Husband been messin with it, every solution she gave me does not apply. I think their bandwidth is borked.. anyway, I was trying to explain my husband looked into it and I said "My DH blah blah" LOL She's gonna be like DH?????? -
Congrats!!! That's my next goal too

I am the same way with coke (soda, pop, etc). I drank at least 6 cans of it a day.. particularly Mt. Dew.. When I went in for my first consultation with my new doctor (1 month pre-op) he said I couldn't drink carbonation post-op. So I started THAT DAY to prove to myself I can do this. I haven't had a coke since.. It was rough, and still is sometimes. We don't keep any cokes in my house anymore, DH who also loves it, will get it at work and not parade it in front of me or have it in the house to tempt me.. But every time I go to my parents house to watch movies or family cook out, there it is.. rows of Grapico, Mt. Dew and Coca Cola. It kills me!! I want one SO bad.. I just have to close the fridge and distract myself. This is something, that if I allowed myself 'one every once in a while', it would be my downfall. I can't control my 'addiction' to cokes.. so I have to just stop! I think stopping at a medium blizzard is a start. Move along Don't dwell on it, just take it for what it is.. a weak moment. Any weak moments I have with things I shouldn't have, I exercise more that day to make up for it.. which I don't want to do anyway, so it kind of balances out.. is it really worth having to walk another mile just to eat xxx? Probably not.

I'm a sweet junkie too.. But first thing I did was get rid of the ridiculously high calorie count sweets in my house (including my beloved cokes!!). I replaced any candy bars/cookies/etc.. with 100 calorie pack stuff. Now, a 'bad night' is when I eat 2 100 calorie packs.. that's less than most candy bars. And pre-band, I couldn't tell you how many candy bars I could pack in one sitting if I was having a 'bad night'. I also realized, after being banded, another big problem for me.. We wouldn't eat 3 normal meals a day, we'd eat 1 or 2 big ones--which consisted 100% of fast food. We lived in a house that had a crap kitchen, stove was broken, no dish washer or garbage disposal, so I wasn't going to cook. We moved 2 months ago into a nice new house and big kitchen, so fast food is no longer in my life either. But pre-band, I could eat 3-5 mcdonald meals at ONE TIME. And if you look at calories of ONE mcdonald meal, it's disturbing. So now that I've become obsessed with calorie counting, it's no wonder I have had problems my whole life. My parents work(ed) while I grew up and it was fast food and lunch room food for me. I haven't given up sweets, I've just given myself better options. But you do have to make those choices. Eating normal (bad!) candy bars and what not, isn't going to cause anything to happen to your band to help reinforce you.

Tracy- Congrats!!!!! Those are the same pants we saw the muffin with right? YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!! I forgot my water bottle today at work- BOO.. Means I have to pay a dollar to get a water out of the coke machine. I'm wearing one of the new shirts I bought last week, and it's already too big. It's a tunic, so it's not too big of a deal, but its real baggy on the boobs, and I like to show off the boobs! DH woke up groaning and moaning saying his stomach has hurt for weeks, and its getting worse. He pointed to the center of his stomach, so that's not pancreas.. I'm not even sure what guys have there, it's where our uterus is. So I told him to tough it up, we gotta go to work lol. I guess if he keels over in pain I'll send him to the clinic.. -

Kat- that sounds a little like another recipe I like (But have not made in a while, cause even when not dieting it seemed horribly sinful!) Nuke chicken, shred it up mix in a whole bag (12oz) of shredded cheddar, and a whole box of cream cheese (what are they, 16oz?).. nuke a little longer till you can mix it all up.. this part I call 'chicken goop'.. then put that in crescents, roll them up, cook them.. then make a sauce to go over it, of cream of chicken soup mixed with milk and sour cream.. It's pretty good, but its SOOOO rich, and I can only imagine the calorie count!!! On the chicken I make now, I always use skim milk, and if it calls for cream of some kind, I do half skim, half cream. -
With as much as they poke me, if fills gave me orgasms, I might have to leave my DH for the band.

Tracy- That's cause God blessed you with a doctor who will FILL YOU UP!!!!!!! lol I get more and more frustrated with my doctor, reading how all you violets are finding your good restriction and here I am, less restricted than the month before, which was barely even restricted compared to bandster hell. BAH! Chickin in a biskit is a nice snack for me, they actually fill me up well. I eat about 4 of those at once. But again, if I got to the point I couldn't eat them due to restriction--I'm OK with that!!! Terri-Thanks for the link, that's one of the websites I browse frequently, but they are the ones that push really fancy dishes, mexican dishes, and FISH OUT THE WAZOO! (I looked up their low-calorie dishes). That might be where I got the crescent roll recipe I shared earlier. -

Oh! One more note on the carbs, I keep hearing they're harder to eat at good restriction. If that becomes the case, I would have no problem with that. So far, only thing I can NOT stomach anymore is hamburger patties (with or without bun), but I have tried it with a bun once.. that was one miserable bite, so I don't even like buns anymore either. -

mdrai- I understand what you're saying, I actually wondered if someone was going to mention that after my recipe post  I am not a carb counter.. I did that route a while ago, and it leaves a 'bad taste in my mouth' to think I paid all this money to do that all over again.. I count calories & protein. And I make a serious effort to have 'better' carbs.. I.e. I don't eat normal potatos at all anymore, only red potatos (which are better for you and lower calorie). I don't eat white sandwhich bread anymore (so sad), but whole wheat (which is nasty.. and thus keeps me from eating many sandwhiches anymore).. And rice.. I don't normally eat, we had it last night cause I didn't feel like making anything else! First time since banding that I actually made rice Now, crescent rolls, I don't limit myself.. not that I eat them everyday, but if it's in a recipe, I don't fret. I just count the calories. Those chicken things (with the rolls) total 300 calories per thing.. I had 1 of those, and 3 bites of rice, which probably put my total around 350 calories at most. That's a good dinner for me! So the short version of this, I don't cross off food because of carbs. Not only do I resent the whole Atkins thing, my doctor didn't instruct me to do low-carb. THAT BEING SAID.. I know, from experience, if I cut out all carbs I'd be losing weight quicker. But.. I'd be setting myself up for failure in the long run, because I like red potatos.. I like sandwhiches, and I like crescent rolls! If I started gaining weight again, I'd re-evaluate because I'd feel like the band is no good at helping me eat smaller portions and I need to diet again. I wanted the band to eat less.. not do Atkins. Hopefully I explained that well enough! Things I do eat.. beef, beef, beef.. any and all. I'm really a meat & potatos girl! So now I'm meat and red potatos girl! I love roast beef, with lots of onions (slow cooker style). I like veggie skewers.. can't find a good recipe for that either.. anyone got one? Squash, zuccini, onion and mushrooms.. but I've yet to find a good seasoning on it.. I like shrimp, but can't cook it at home Love casseroles! Don't think I've met one yet that I didn't like. I can take or leave fruit.. I have to be in the 'mood' to eat fruits. A typical day lately for me is: Milk or coffee for breakfast, go out to lunch to TGIF or Longhorn with DH.. I get their smallest steak or grilled shrimp skewer, with a dry salad with oil & vinegar as my side instead of mashed potatos/fries. I only am able to eat 1 or 2 bites of the steak, and take it all home. I eat most the leftovers throughout the day (up until about 4pm)(this is the worst thing I do, I think.. but I get so hungry at night!!) I cook dinner around 7pm so we eat by 8 or 9. Like last night, I made the chicken things and rice. Make meatballs sometimes, with red potatos and green beans, etc. And finally my snack, is a 100 calorie pack late at night (10-11pm) which I don't do every night, and when I'm havin bad OOMTOM, I'll have 2! :/ -
Wow, this thread was like reading a short story in one of those Soup for the Soul books! You guys put your thoughts out so well, and though it's cynical and gloomy, it's still ironic and funny. This is my new favorite thread! I don't have a real response for this thread, but I had to let you know how entertaining it has been for me!

Shallow Hal bothered me. How she got the big granny panties, and they made it like since she's fat, she can carry her man in the end. Watching the movies alone, it doesn't bother me.. but if I'm with DH it makes me emberassed, like he's thinking I would look like/do something they do in the movies, cause I'm big.. although I'm not as big as them, it just makes for akward moments.
-
Post-op, I did everything liquid, and vitamins chewable, and couldn't take my beloved Prilosec (time release).. I was nervous to start back on my meds.. But about 1.5 months later, I started taking pills again and I have no problems. Today (After 3 fills darn it, this irritates me!!) I took 2 horse pills at the same time, with no problem.

Tracy- Sounds horrible You'll be in my thoughts that things smooth out, and your son doesn't have to be put through all that drama again!!! Jennifer- Yeah, I win but I really lose, it's such a pain in the a$$ trying to cook every night (which I love to do), but I get bored with the same things.. and I know DH does too.. but when I try to find new recipes, it's sooo hard to find something. The last 'good recipe' I found was balsamic roasted red potatos.. YUM! I love vinegar btw hehe. There's actually another recipe, I had it at some ungodly expensive restaurant ($50 per entree, and does not include sides.. which are $20 each) in Vegas a couple years ago.. and I figured out how to make it at home.. It's proscutto (sp) wrapped around mozzerella, then fried in EVOO (very little in my case) and balsamic, then served with the balsamic vinegar which cooks down to a syrup.. OMG it's wonderful.. but I can only find proscutto at Sam's Club and that's too far out of the way and I don't go to places like that for just 1 thing. Now onto BBQ.. I have never been able to make it good at home (even slow cooker..especially slow cooker!), but these little po-dunk BBQ stands out here in Alabama have wonderful pulled chicken BBQ.. there's no sauce, they just smoke it I guess.. I dunno, It's yum yum! But I never thought of that, I could go buy some bulk and keep it in the freezer for nights I want to be lazy.. it can have a whole lot of extra calories since they don't use sauce, right?? (You can get it on the side, some sweet BBQ if you want it, but its so good without) I don't like baked Beans.. only beans I like are black-eyed peas..and kidney beans if they're in chili. -
I flew 3 months post-op, and noticed nothing different. One was a long flight where they served dinner, and my restriction was no different.
-
I'm the same way, no advice, I just know it sucks!
-
Drink! Unless you ate. Drinking isn't restricted.. I guzzle bottles of water at a time (we've been having record heat too!) Liquids should be going through your band with no problem, as long as you haven't eaten in the past hour.
-
That's about my same spread, I was banded April 16, and they wouldn't do my first fill till June 5th.. and ever since, every fill is TOO SMALL!!! and he makes me wait a whole month (and normally a week due to scheduling) to get in for another. My next is Sept. 13th and I'm counting down the days painfully.
-
Congrats!! Good luck
-
Shopping definitely. And smoking more than pre-band.
-
Bandster hell is when you basically feel like you never had the surgery. It hit me about 4 weeks post-op. So you can eat like before, and you feel like you just wasted your $$! Then you get your first fill, and you're on your way to proper restriction. However, for me.. my doctor does lil baby fills and WON'T FILL ME UP!! So, I've been in a prolonged bandster hell. My wish for you, is that you get proper restriction on your first fill

Oh yea.. -No Mexican ... Forgot, that's another reason these websites don't have anything good for me, they push a lot of mexican recipes too -No red sauces (re: italian, like pizza sauce, any marinara) -No Pasta (Not only is it not a good carb, I'm not a fan) chicken caticcori... what's that?
