Are Tummy Tucks a must after losing 100 plus?
Daisalana replied to Hebber's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hope not? -
My rule.. I NEVER opened the 'complications' folder here, until post-op. I just knew it would add to my anxiety, and I of course had second thoughts until I was there.. and then right before surgery, I was still thinking of leaving (all because I didn't want a cathedar.. which I never got). They gave me some happy meds, so I relaxed and just sailed through. So glad I did. I think you need to re-evaluate.. stop looking at complications. Hell, I've ended up having a complication.. and while I'm disappointed, and nervous about going back under the knife.. I've yet to say "I wish I hadn't done this".

Just a train of thought about the odds. Diabetes is rampant in my mom's side of the family. My mom's mom's mom.. was bed ridden and 600+lbs by the age of 30. So, that was my biggest factor.. I never met her, she died by 35 of diabetes, but I saw her pictures.. and I heard the stories...and I knew I was gaining weight at a gross rate, and saw myself bedridden by 30. So anyway.. my mom's mom (daughter of above person), has diabetes.. she had 'pre-diabetes' about 10 years ago, went on a diet, lost weight, everything was good, then she gained it back and about 2 years ago they said she is diabetic.. and now she's back to a perma-diet. My uncle (her son), was told he was pre-diabetic about 6 months ago. He use to be a personal trainer, but let himself go and he's an alcoholic so the beer belly factor-- and so he's been dieting. I was told about 4 or 5 years ago, I was 'pre-diabetic'. I really didn't know that was a term, or what it meant.. and I honestly still don't, except that I could get diabetes (duh!). I've had a lot of bloodwork since then, and gained quite a bit of weight, but no one has ever told me I am diabetic. I do have some things I associate with diabetes (sores on my body are my biggest problem).. So, I've been losing weight with the band. Since no one has called me diabetic yet, is there a possibility, with me continuing to lose weight, I could still become diabetic? Or does losing weight get me out of the water?? I was thinking, I'm in the safe house now, I've lost nearly 50lbs and I wasn't diabetic at 333lbs.. so maybe I won't ever be.

I agree.. I say what I like or don't like, and he does the same for me. If we weren't comfortable enough to say "Hey don't use your teeth there", we shouldn't be playin with each other's naughty bits! -
I don't say you should, but during my liquid phase my DH had pizza layin around one nite. I couldn't take it anymore and sucked on a piece of crust.. I didn't swallow anything, but I was so obsessed with having something in my mouth.. how horrible is that?! After your band heals up, you'll be in bandster hell, so enjoy the feeling of not needing to eat while it lasts!

When you are tired of discussing your weight loss....
Daisalana replied to picardy3's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm a little with Rainer.. I guess it's what they're saying, depends on what you want to hear!! I work with my entire family, including DH. So everyone sees me every day. They have blatently said, they don't notice the weightloss since they see me all the time. So, I send them e-mails with my before & after pic (of the month). And they go WOW! And that's that. DH has made a comment when it comes to sex, that he notices then. People in the back of our plant, who don't see me often, will once in a while say they can tell I've lost weight, ask me how much, etc. First, I love to hear that they can tell- because sometimes I can't tell myself When they ask how much, I get dodgy. And on smoke breaks, I don't like when people just want to talk about how much more I've lost since xxx. Especially since I'm in perma-bandster hell till my next surgery. And word spread like wildfire about me having to do a revision surgery, and I know that makes a lot of people think "She should have done the other one", or "It's not going to work".. the last one is how I feel right now. Just tough spots, and wish it wasn't a hot topic. -

Smyly- Grats on the big weight loss so far! -
My doctor also has me taking calcium (tums for me).. But I also keep the bottle of Flintstones+Iron and Tums on my night stand, and it's part of my nightly ritual when I take my sleeping pills. You can go to your general practitioner for a blood work up, and they can tell if you're having a deficiency of something.

Burping is normal! You should see me in public, I'm so use to burping without feeling it coming. When we went to a casino last weekend (me and my mom), we were at some slots, full of people around us, and I just let them go! I don't think about it.. And people look at me, and I go.. oh yeah. It's become so normal/natural to me, it's like taking a deep breath.. I forget you're not suppose to do that hehe. And when me and my DH are intimate, if I had just drank a lot of water (which I do around bed time..).. there's been times, where I have a 'band burp'.. it burps deep inside, it doesn't come up, but I can't control it whatsoever. It sounds like I just let out a huge burp inside.. and in the middle of kissing, it always grosses DH out!

Anyone have to have surgery rescheduled due to liver?
Daisalana replied to mandi78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
And to add, I didn't cut out sugar & salt 100%. I DID cut out fried foods 100%. But sugar and salt, I just made sure they were very low for the day.. never ate a lot of sugar or salt in one meal, and made sure by the end of the day I did not have a whole lot. (Maybe 5g of sugar total for the day, and less than 300g of sodium).. and of course, never added salt to food. My official pre-op diet was SSS for 4 days, then 3 days of liquid. Soup, Salad, Sandwhich.. he said nothing complicated, but the sandwhich part confused me, I can put anything on bread and call it a sandwhich.. so I stuck to low-sodium soup and salads. Low-sodium broths and sugar-free jello on the liquids part...I was lucky, those 3 days flew by for me because I was so anxious to just get the surgery done. -
Anyone have to have surgery rescheduled due to liver?
Daisalana replied to mandi78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, they did an ultra-sound at my first consult (which at the time was 1.5 months pre-op.. but I didn't know that till later). I think it was 9cm, and 9cm was the cut-off for my doctor.. So he said no salt, no sugar, no fried foods to shrink it down. I started that day, a week later found out when my surgery was and got an official pre-op diet (which was only 1 week long for my doctor). But the day they said my liver was on the cut-off line, I adhered strictly. I counted SODIUM (which honestly is hard.. I never noticed how much sodium was in stuff). Good luck By surgery, my liver was in great shape lol. -

Just because I noticed it today, so hm... I am 289 according to scale last night.. but those sexy jeans that I never wore in my life until a month or so ago? Well, I can wear them, and they fit fine, but because my stomach is so flabby now, the muffin top is bad. So I have to wear bigger shirts with these pants. I washed the sexy jeans, and have been avoiding them.. you know how jeans shrink in the wash.. Today I wore them, and they're not too tight at all, and my muffin top seems a lot less. I still wore a baggy shirt, because there IS a muffin top, but it's not too bad. So, maybe I lose more inches even though my weight isn't making me happy. -
Oh dear.. another reason to keep that rascal wrapped! Hope you sort it all out.

Anyone have to have surgery rescheduled due to liver?
Daisalana replied to mandi78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor didn't say I could reschedule, he just said if he goes in there and my liver is too big--they will do it open. And my liver was right over the edge of being too big when they first looked at it. That scared the wits out of me, so I did my pre-op diet 2 weeks earlier than I was suppose to.. just to 'make sure'. And anytime I wanted to 'cheat', I thought about the scar I could get, and the healing time.. and work I would miss..customers I'd lose... Now, the scars I have I don't even think anything of them, and mine didn't heal the beautifull-iest (I guess it could still change), 2 of them looked like they ripped open and poof out, and they're all dark and noticable. But I really don't care! -
Well, I have a crazy sweet tooth. I didn't read that people who have sweet tooths shouldn't get banded, till after the fact. I'm glad now, I probably would have gone with RNY.. But anyway, my cure is this.. I allow myself something sweet once a week, and I just have to say 'is this going to be it? if it's this, no more sweets for a week!'. It's silly, and I hope one day I stop caring so much.. but for now it works. And I don't gorge.. one serving size (have you ever eaten ONE serving of ice cream as per the box? Or one cookie serving? I didn't until now). And lastly, I don't keep temptation in my house! It's easier to deal with that way, if I get a pang where I just have to gorge on some ice cream.. if there's none in my freezer, I'm sure as hell not runnin' to the store. But that's just me.

I found I have a lot of 'strange pains' associated with the band. None of them are constant, they are set off by how I am sitting or laying, and if I shift around it goes away. My brain makes me think it's just the fact there is an OBJECT in my body, and when I squish it against my stomach, liver, etc.. it's going to hurt! That's my excuse.

All I have to say is, no one is takin my sugar-free Pudding away from me. And that's that. If life doesn't have sugar-free pudding, life's not worth living!

Are you hungry forever? --Not banded yet
Daisalana replied to betrthnever's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You're hungry and in bandster hell, until you get a proper restriction. Once you find your 'sweet spot', the hunger dies down, and everyone else on the boards is just envious! I had this sweet spot feeling post-op, while I was swollen. I wasn't hungry for at least 2 weeks, and I just had to make myself 'drink'. I've been fighting to get to that point again, but it's going to take another surgery to fix my port. -
Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Daisalana replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, like I said I don't feel banded, I must have had some saline sticking because I would get 'stuck' occasionally.. but since they did contrast and took EVERYTHING out, I don't get stuck, I don't feel anything..no matter what I'm eating. They said they would do surgery this week, and my fingers are crossed that they meant it, because my scale said 289 last night.. I'm gaining I'm still doing myplate (and resenting myself), I had 2300 calories yesterday--and I could have stayed under my goal if I hadn't eaten the stupid Cherry Turnover from Arby's.. I have been turning my nose up at them for months, and some reason I just had to have it yesterday. I'm a bad example of you violets right now!! Hopefully, I'll be back to working and being positive and motivated soon. I have my cell phone on my desk and I keep looking at it, waiting for a call. They had to wait till someone got back in town today to call Allergen about warranties. -
Vegas in January, Agenda, Next Steps
Daisalana replied to OH Juli's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have seen Mystere 4 times, "O" 3 times, and Love once when we went for our wedding-- but definitely going back when we go again (hopefully this trip!!). Mystere is good, especially if you've never seen it.. and the soundtrack- love it. O is a lot of fun, how they do it over the Water that disappears and reappears. Music isn't as good IMO, but it's worth seeing. But then there's LOVE. Wow. I've never had a more positive experience at a show (and I go to a lot of shows, even local ones!!). You really feel like you've been zapped back in time, and the whole audience is engulfed into the show. Feels like you need a doobie just for being there.. and by the end, you feel like you had a few I really loved LOVE.. and I listen to the soundtrack all the time. It's so surreal and you can sing along (unlike the other cirque's). And there's parts where they took real recordings of the boys talking and clipped it together, and some part it's John Lennon talking and you fade into "Yesterday".. I got a little teary eyed. Anyway, no more rambling.. it was awesome though. We did a week of shows for our honeymoon, and we also went to Uncensored Hypnotist Anthony Cools at Paris.. if you're open-minded, that's a riot. We went to the medieval times kind of thing (dinner & show) at Excalibur.. I believe I got food poisoning from them, and the show was hokey. Never goin' back to that one! Lastly, we saw the Blue Man Group at Venetian.. we saw BMG when they came to our town, and it was great music and fun...so we decided to see the non-travelling in Vegas. It was set up more like a show, than a concert.. but it was still great.. and we were front row "Poncho" seats, so it was a little messy. Then they toilet paper the ENTIRE audience, which interestingly enough--is FUN. So that's my run down of shows I have opinions on. We met at Sahara so we stayed there a time or two, Caesar's Palace (This was my favorite, the top suites), but we get rooms at Harrah's properties for free, and we've also tried Bally's (they are NOT clean, I did not like staying there), Paris.. right by Bally's too, so I liked staying at Paris but their casino is very high-limit on weekends, so you can walk across to Bally's cheaper casinos... and Rio.. Rio is a party scene, I didn't like it all that much, but the upside is you can play slots and watch a little showgirl type show all at the same time.. and then turn around and go up the elevator to your room. -
Oh, but I did get a bariatric eating shake thingie.. it's just a cup with a silver wire ball in it (I think I got it from GNC). It helped mix up shakes, and was only 2 or 3 dollars.

I had planned to use a food processor or just using my hand and time to moosh things up. It turned out (oddly enough), my g'ma's room mate died a month before my surgery and they had both bought a magic bullet 2 for 1 deal.. impulse buy. Neither of them opened them, so when I was near surgery she asked me if I wanted his.. It worked fine, I honestly only used it a couple times. But you can't do it for long periods of time, and like when I made things with ice, it didn't do much to ice.. or took a lot of hand work also. I use it now once a month maybe just to cut up something for a recipe!

Congrats Tracy!! -
that does seem early for meats and tomatos! Every doctor is different, but you should definitely do liquids for a couple days.. if you were vomiting blood, you've certainly upset something and it needs to rest.. and heal.
