How Does The Band Handle A Stomach Virus?
Daisalana replied to kland's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got food poisoning or the flu or something in July (Banded in April). I was heaving and horribly throwing up for 24 hours. It felt like I was ripping my band out.. but x-ray showed it was in perfect position when I went back to the doctor. It was definitely scary for me, and I didn't have any fills at the time. Now I think I could be at my sweet spot, and eating is a chore.. I'm kind of scared to get sick like I was that day I do keep anti-nausea medicine (liquid) in my medicine cabinet.. it's over the counter. -
I don't have enough information to give you any answers, but my general practitioner said people with thyroid problems don't benefit from weight loss surgery. He said it in passing, because it doesn't apply to me, but have you asked your doctor about weight loss surgery?
-
Maybe that's what I feel then. They weren't sure, but said it could be the band pushing on something. But it's only if I lay on my stomach, it's painful in the 'banding area'.

Jennifur- I try not to comment about your bf, because I hear things that don't sound right. Meaning, it sounds like you're talking about an ex that you don't get along with, etc. So, are you saying this is your current bf, who treats you like crap? If so, why are you still with him? If it's just a bf, walk away!!!!!! When we lived in NM, we had a couple we were friends with, they were DATING.. and in COUPLES COUNSELING! I kept thinking.. you don't have kids together, you don't live together, you're DATING.. if you don't fit, you don't fit. I'm not trying to be mean, I just want to understand. -

Kat- I sent you my info to add to the list the day I talked to you about Secret Santa.. I was on the list when you sent it to me, did you delete it ? LOL And everyone, it may seem confusing, but if you signed up with Kat, just let me know you want to join Secret Santa. I'm not signing anyone up based on signing up with Kat for contact list.. some people may not want to do it! Onto other things.. a girl at work said the chicken canned stuff is good in some casserole she makes, so she's giving me the recipe. I had that for dinner last night-- canned chicken, miracle whip, relish.. MMMMM. And Terry-- it's very possible I'm from another planet I've noticed 2/3 times when I eat during the day, I eat to the point of hurting. I'm not use to the real 'bandster restriction', so it's like I'm starting over. I need to relearn. I knew the limits of my band before, since I lived with it for all these months.. but now it's so different Yesterday at lunch, I decided on bacon-wrapped scallops. I got 4 of them (they aren't the small scallops, but they're not the big ones either). I'm eating.. slowly.. took me 45 minutes to finish the 4.. But a couple bites 'hurt' because I didn't chew enough I guess.. and then, by time we were done with lunch and I was driving back to work, I had that 'overate at thanksgiving' feeling. I hurt sooo bad, my stomach felt like I had been gorging all day. But when I was eating the scallops, I guess I didn't notice it coming on.. and my brain didn't believe 4 scallops would stuff me like that. Listening to what you ate Denise, that's like me at our company cookout last week. I ate smaller portions, but I was able to pick at several things. Now? Now I can only eat 1 thing at a time, and it's a lot of work. It's good I guess, just wish I could snap into shape quicker! My brain needs to catch up. On that note, I was 281lbs last night! Yaysa! -
Actually.. I have always been able to feel the port, from the inside and outside. And when I lay on my stomach, I have a pain on my left side where I image the band is.. I asked my doctor about it last time and he said it's likely the band pushing on something. So I do feel that.. And when I eat, sometimes I get a gurgling or glug glug glug as something moves down, so I feel the band from the inside. I don't constantly feel the band, and except for the pain of laying on my stomach, it's not significant.. When my port was on my abdomen, I could push and feel every side of it.. now it's under my left boob, and it's on a not-so-fatty part of my body, so it feels like it's right under the skin.

The pound police does let up Good for you, helping someone else out at your own 'expense'. The first couple months were rough with people I work with, but now they don't ask me (maybe they pity me since I am not losing quick enough?!)

Really? I tried the morning star sausage links.. it was disgusting. You promise it's not disgusting??

Some surgeries work for some people, and some they don't. I think it's a personal decision. I wanted to start with lap-band. I'm determined to make it work, but my mind said.. if lap-band fails, I can easily go to RNY. If RNY fails, it would be harder to go to lap-band. That was my logic on the matter. I'm still terrified of RNY, so I really am wanting the band to work for me!

I'm listening to my work playlist.. Currently it's Oil & Water -Incubus.. But this playlist is filled with Incubus, Third Eye Blind, Sick Puppies, Jimmy Buffet, & Foo Fighters!

I take my vitamins and protein like a good girl.. Banded in April, and about 3 weeks ago I started noticing my hair falling out a lot. My hair was already thinned out from when I did Atkins (I don't know why). I just use a lot of hair products to make my hair 'big'. I heard it will grow back though, so my fingers are crossed.

My weight goal is something I made up. My doctor didn't give me a goal.. I am 6'0 and from 'charts', it looks like 150-190 is healthy for a woman this height. I don't want to be skinny skinny, I like hips/boobs/butts hehe.. so I'm making myself a more realistic goal, the highside of my 'ideal'. If I get to 200, frankly.. I'd be ecstatic. I'm also open to the fact that my 'goal' may change as I lose more weight. So my 180 isn't set in stone.

Bruce- No doubt, like I said I still CHOOSE the band, despite the unknown. But it's a real possibility that they could decide in 30-40 years that the band long-term caused ______. But that's everything in the world. Look at the debate about artificial sweeteners, egg beaters..Ecstasy use to be a drug for people with marriage problems, etc. Such is life. I personally don't find it enough scare to make me not want the band.. I would do it again But who knows what we find out later on. And I have NO DOUBT, in 30 years the lap-band will be extremely outdated. They might even have the fat-be-gone pill that works by then!

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

No, I didn't send the info to Kat.. It's at home My sister lived with her girlfriend of a long time, they broke up not too long ago and she moved out.. so sister lives alone. Mom said move back home or have a friend move back, she had her gf move back in. I think that makes matters worse, and I'm confused about all that. They have a weird relationship, because though they were broken up, they still talked and said they love each other, miss each other.. and my sister instigates it, she wants 'space'. Anyway.. I think I'm getting a bladder infection??? When I pee, near the end, i get a pain in my stomach. That's usually a bladder infection right? I'm going to Red Lobster with my g'ma today for lunch! Then going to bowling coaching with husband (he takin lessons from a local pro), then we're goin to Sam's so I can get a hoss size of chicken breast in a can LOL! -
My new favorite food is the canned chicken breast, with some miracle whip and relish. Little less than 200 calories for it, and 23g(at least) of protein. Yum yum!

You don't *have* to be 100lbs overweight, unless that's what insurance told you. I think as time goes on, he'll feel comfortable with it. My husband doesn't even notice the weightloss, till I show him pics, since he lives with me.
