  1. Did anyone else watch it?? This is my first time seeing it, I tivo'd it, so I'm not sure if it actually came on last night or the night before.. It was really depressing.. Rose has a BMI of 73, and DENIED approval due to the psychological evaulation. I thought, wow.. they all admitted her next stop is death.. so instead of helping her, they deny her because she's depressed. I would have been depressed too if I was 73 BMI :cry

    Big Medicine Last Night

That's the thing.. Maybe she would eventually screw up, but at this point, at a BMI 73 YES SHE IS DEPRESSED! NO SHE CAN'T CONTROL HER EATING! So.. it would be a chain reaction. I don't think a single person who has had RNY has NOT lost SOME weight initially. So lets say she drops 60lbs in the first couple months-- all of a sudden she's motivated, and she isn't depressed. We all feel in a rut at some point, like nothing is going to work. Even after being banded I have those days. Then the scale moves, and I'm motivated again. But I was very disappointed in the psychiatrist, to say the least. I felt so bad for Rose. I am recording all episodes of Big Medicine.. I'll have to check out the other one. They're my private indulgences.. I was watching this one, I like to see before & after of these things hehe. Husband came to bed and I quickly turned off. Still afraid he's going to wake up one day and go 'I have a fat wife!' shhh.. don't tell him.

    Anyone else getting sick?

I guess I should give credit to Zicam too. Last year I was using those and they really did reduce the length of how sick I was compared to not using them. When husband started getting sick, I started swabbing my nose with those things. My dad swears by Airbourn too.. I tried it, but I hated the taste :x

    Before and after fill rules

I don't have to do any diet.. I normally eat lunch on our trip to get my fill.. and I don't have to do any liquids or anything post-fill.

    Anyone "into" interior decorating?

Sure! I went to an art school for interior design.... it ended up starting out as interior decorating, so I learned quite a bit about that stuff. I can help bounce ideas! Unless it comes to the how-to

    High-protein juice replacement?

I was told juice is a waste of calories, but if I allow for the calories, I have juice! I keep those little jugs of OJ in the fridge (6-pack of 1 serving each). 110 calories per box. Instead of a snack, I have an OJ. The light OJ (blue top) from tropicana is good too, and less calories.. but I like the individual serving boxes with the little straw..

    How many calories???

My goal was 2000 before I had my first tightening. I normally was 1600-1800. Since the port revision and filling, my goal is 1500.. I get between 1300-1600 regularly. My IDEAL goal would be 1200, but I don't see that happening for me right now.

    Big Medicine Last Night

Yeah, and I guess it's unethical, but if I was the psychologist lady I wouldn't have made a stink about her depression and denying her. She's depressed because of her weight.. it's a vicious cycle.. they needed to HELP her.

    Lap Band v. RNY

I know it's silly (maybe not), but my biggest fear is the percentage average of weight lost for lap-banders. I forget it now, 35-55%? My goal is 180lbs, and I know that's more than 35-55% of my excess weight. 55% for me would be 84lbs. 35% would be 54lbs. I've lost 54lbs exactly to date. I hit the first statistic.. going for 55% now! I would still want to lose at least 40lbs if I lost 55%.. ok enough with numbers, my thing is.. I am anxious to see me get past 55% and to know I can beat the statistics!

    Lap Band v. RNY

I don't know so much of if it's a 'battle', people just have their preferences. I preferred the lap-band. I know people who preferred RNY.. I don't hold that against them or think they were wrong.. we just had a difference of opinion! And I guess the 'battle' part, people seem to think their opinion is best.. thus, "RNY is better" "No, lap band is better".. yadda yadda. I think whatever is best for you is what you decide to do. For me, it was the band!

    Another student rant.

Well, that's reasonable. This is a distance learning class with the University in New Mexico I attended (I was a semester shy of a degree, so taking distance learning with them to get that degree). There's no presentations, no lectures. Read Chapter X and here's the quiz. No inkling as to what the test will be over. And I've had real classes like this too, where you just read. HOWEVER.. power point presentations are wonderful. My first sociology class, the teacher did every class with a PP, and I just copied everything on it. The test was right off of that. Simple enough, and that's what I like!

    Aaargh

2 months does seem like a long time, but I'm not familiar with the rules for Vangard bands. My doctor makes me wait 1 month for the 'regular' band. From what I've read, some people get to go every 2 weeks, but I felt the same as you. I never felt the fills doing anything, and I kept having to wait a month. 5 months later (& 4 fills later), they realized they weren't filling me up due to the port being flipped, and I was back to square 1! Patience is definitely part of the lap-band.

    Another student rant.

I just took an exam today, made a 30.. I'm smart.. and I studied.. but my problem seems to be (from what I notice in my pattern), if I don't get some sort of 'review' on what the test is going to be over--- I will do bad.. not because I didn't do the work, or didn't study.. but I seem to study the WRONG things. For example.. today I made a 30 on Chapter 4. Chapter 4 is 38 text book pages long, with excerpts from a lot of philosophy readings. I read it all to begin with. Then I went back and highlighted things, *I* think will be on the test. When I get the test, I'm wrong. It's things I wouldn't even think would have been on the test. And at that point, I'm just screwed. I always get mad at teachers that aren't consistent on what they test on, or give no inkling as to what the test will actually be. I can't absorb every quote for each chapter, so.. That's my rant. Glad I'm done after this semester. No more degrees for me, this is for the BIRDS.

UPS is a pain in the ass.

If you call them, you can ask them to deliver to another address (parents, friends who have a house?) When I lived in Apt's, they would deliver to our apt.'s manager's office. I wouldn't wait till day 3, like someone else said, in my experience after 3rd attempt they send it back to shipper!

    Anyone else getting sick?

My husband was sick.. for about 1.5 weeks, horrible caughing and sinus problems.. he's still coughing (loud and obnoxious!!) but feels better. A lot of people at work are sick, and they say they blame the cotton farmers.. something about the pesticides in cotton make everyone sick.. KNOCKING ON WOOD.. I've not gotten sick, and pre-band I swear to you I caught every little thing going around. I am giving props to flintstone vitamins I was sick at least once a month last year. I've been kissing my husband despite him being sick and I've just been perfectly fine!

    All worried for nothing!!!!

Congrats!!! I thought the nurse probably was confused, it's unusual that lap-band is done if you're NOT at least 35+.

    Am I in denial?

My doctor gave me something for head hunger.. Pre-op liquid diet, I took this stuff.. but it wasn't overwhelming to me. The day before surgery I even went to a steak house with my family, watched them eat all kinds of good food.. and I had the broth of onion soup without complaints. I might have just been so excited to be doing the surgery, I didn't care about food at the time. Post-op, I didn't feel hungry for a couple weeks.. the swelling kept me stuffed.. I only drank or ate pureed food, etc because I knew I needed to, and it was minimal. But then it finally hit me.. swelling went down and I was a monster again!!

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

My B'day is February 5! I *think* I lost 10lbs for the month. I believe I started at 289lb, not positive though. Work has been crazy lately, our busy season.. so haven't had as much time to post as I usually do!!

    Is Sugar in or out?

I don't cut them out completely, but I certainly limit them. I go by calories, not sugar content. But I cut sugars out of drinks that are mixed- kool aid, tea, coffee.. because it's just a waste of calories. And in pudding, I get the SF version because it's 1/2 the calories.

    Are you becoming a Flirt??

I never had low self-esteem (except in middle school), the only way I came to terms with being so fat is that I had problems walking. ALWAYS flirting..

    Did you know???

In Decatur,AL it is illegal to walk around with an ice cream in your back pocket. And somewhere it's illegal to marry your uncle's pig. I always wish they'd explain the reason for the law.. because you know 'something' happened to cause it!
