Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

I tried making a tofu dinner tonight.. It wasn't horrible, but we didn't like it.. so husband went and got chinese from down the road. My eyes were so much bigger than the rest of me LOL. I was so hungry since I forgot b'fast and lunch today at work.. Had him get me.. beef & broccoli, egg roll, and crab rangoons. Now duh, I can't it all of it, but I put the egg roll, 1c of the beef & broccoli, and 2 rangoons on my plate. 1 bite of rangoon, 1 piece of beef, and 1 piece of broccoli later, I was sliming into my little cup. And now I'm done eating. I'm very hardcore about my vitamins lately, I know my nutrition would really be suffering right now otherwise. And I am almost emberassed to admit this..they make 'spray' vitamin things in the diet aisle now. No more bulky pills, etc. So i bought one that is for 'energy blast!' lol. Tastes good, its berry flavored. No sugars and blah blah.. but it's 'supposedly' going to give me hours of energy in only minutes. The real bonus is, it has vitamins including b-12.. I heard b-12 is good for something on here and had it on my to-do list, I just don't remember what. So I take my chewables, my protein test tubes, and my 'spray' vitamins lol. YAY FOR THE WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
TOFU Cooking Techniques and Recipes PLEASE
Daisalana replied to Lynn_Marie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well there's pros and cons here. I tried to make a tofu dinner tonight, husband ended up going and getting chinese LOL. First, it wasn't horrible. I improvised on some of the recipe. I marinated it for an hour, then I went ahead and battered it in corn starch and fried them. Then, I made the sweet & sour sauce from this recipe. YUCK. So.. I tried the fried tofu first. It wasn't horrible, but I wasn't loving it.. I wanted to drown it in some sort of sauce to cover up the texture. So then I tried dipping a piece (i made tiny little cubes with it) in honey bbq sauce. Again, it was only 'alright'. I didn't want to spit it out, but I didn't want to take another bite. The sauce from the recipe was horrid. I wonder if I had a good sweet & sour sauce if it would have been ok. The good news is, husband said it's not as bad as the first time he tried it--but agreed he didn't want to eat it. So, we're not throwing out the idea of tofu, but I need to make a good recipe lol. -
I would worry if it moved, it de-tached. If it de-tached it can flip. Is it maybe that you lost weight, so the place it was stitched into, just moved an inch?? If you're like me, when it flips, doctor can't get into it. And I know some people it flips, but not all the way around, so they just have to be tricky to get into it. My doctor did another surgery to move my port to somewhere that doesn't 'move' and I'm less likely to rip it out again.

Or.. the canned crescent rolls. I've always been partial to them, I have a billion recipes using them to make something a hand-held food. I use them to make a mini-quiche thing for family cook outs. Would make a good pizza too! I make it with swiss cheese and pieces of ham. But you use a mini-muffin pan, squish pieces of crescent roll into the bottom of each, then top with whatever you want and bake for 10 minutes. Could put a spoon of marinara, pinch of mozzerella and ta-da!

I was wondering if it works like that too. I've heard it can, but I don't know how to gauge it personally. It's rush season at work (until after Christmas), and I'm always running around like a chicken with its head cut off!! There's so many issues during our rush season, we all live stressed.. a lot of people blame their smoke and/or alcohol addictions on our jobs lol. I am extremely tight since my revision surgery, but the past 2 days have been the worst. Nothing goes down until after dinner (and I'm home). Could just be coincidental.. could be supposed TOM (I take B/C back to back as not to have a real TOM).. maybe stress? Wish I knew.. I'm going to get a little unfill and I'd hate for this to just be something passing.

TOFU Cooking Techniques and Recipes PLEASE
Daisalana replied to Lynn_Marie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok! Today is TOFU day! I'm going to try to cook it and eat it, all for the first time! I was looking up recipes that sound like things we eat anyway, just with a tofu replacement. 2 things I found so far and I need input about them. First, the recipes I've found are for vegans, and since I'm not even vegeterian I am altering a couple things already.. Baked Stuffed Tofu. She was inspired by thanksgiving, and didn't want to use real stuffing but its.. hollowed extra firm tofu squares, stuffed with a brown rice 'stuffing' kind of thing. Marinating the tofu an hour before stuffing and baking. I want to use stove-top stuffing instead, anyone know if that would be good with tofu? They look like they are only about 3inches tall (the triangles) if that much, so it would be light stuffing. 2nd recipe, looks really good in the pic, but reviews I saw some people thought the tofu was bad. It's sweet & sour tofu.. Cornstarch batter, fry in oil and drizzle with a homemade syrup. I was thinking of frying without the batter, does tofu crisp up like if you put a piece of meat in a skillet? My brain thinks tofu is going to be like cheese and it'll melt and run all over the place. Also, to make it not bland, wouldn't it be better to marinate it, THEN fry it, then add a sauce? Thanks for any input.. Going to look at the link Lauren posted now  I dare say DH is almost as excited as I am to try tofu again. I find it odd, since he's normally a McDonalds or steak & potatos kind of guy. -

Terry- Exactly, if you do an error, you show remorse and try to fix it, that's how you avoid it in the future! If you just make excuses and put it aside, you'll end up doing it again (from how things operate around here!). Good news is, our shipping contacted fed-ex, pulled some strings and it's being rerouted and delivered TODAY! YAY! Our shipping lady saved the day today. I brought her a cheese critter from the front office break room LOL. And the customer is VERY happy with us right now, so fingers crossed I won't lose them. Please oh pleeeease. And then DH sent me this joke, had to pass it on  Saturday morning I got up early, put on my long johns, dressed quietly, made my lunch, grabbed my shotgun and the dog, slipped quietly into the garage to load the truck, and proceeded to back out into a torrential downpour. There was snow mixed with the rain, and the wind was blowing 50 mph. I pulled back into the garage, turned on the radio, and discovered that the weather would be bad throughout the day. I went back into the house, quietly undressed, and slipped back into bed. There I cuddled up to my wife's back, now with a different anticipation, and whispered, "The weather out there is terrible." She sleepily replied, "Can you believe my stupid husband is out hunting in that shit?" -

It was on the food thread, people said they should do their own lap-band cookbook because there's no good ones out there. I work at a printing company, so I said I can get them made. -

Guys, I just need to vent. I get so mad at my customer service girls sometimes. They cost ME MONEY out of MY POCKET. Sigh. There's this HUGE account in California. I landed them exactly this time last year. The CSR girl shipped the first job they did with us to NEW YORK. I don't even know how. It ends up being a result of them being lazy. So.. this company, since their first job with us, we screwed up and they missed a deadline, never used us again. This year, they needed to re-do that same job. So, they crossed their fingers and did it again with us, needing it rushed. We were able to get it out EARLY so they were VERY pleased with us! YAY!! And in response, they put in a HUGE new order yesterday. So they're happy with us, right? Wrong. They looked at the tracking on the job we sent, and it's being held at a fed-ex hub. Why, you might ask? Because the CSR shipped it to the WRONG ADDRESS. They didn't look at the paperwork and went by default addresses that are in the system (result of laziness, they are NOT SUPPOSE TO DO THIS). So guess what, huge account, will likely not have any faith in us again. We had proved ourselves and the big jobs were about to come rolling in..and then POOF. I am so mad at this CSR, and it sucks more because she is my friend. So while I'm yelling at her, and in my opinion she is showing no remorse, which makes me even more mad. She should be going OH MY GOD and calling the customer, but she's sitting there trying to justify it to me. She says.. Since you're mad at me, lets have make up smoke. So we go out to smoke and I'm still trying to tell her you've got to quit being lazy on this stuff. In one ear, out the other.. she still hasn't had a fire lit under her ass. I wish they worked on commission too sometimes. Thank god it's friday, but I am so sad that 2/2 on this big company we screwed up. That's about 15k a year I'm not going to get. Anyway, as to the cookbooks. I can make it happen, but it's not free! I can get them done at-cost which is better than anywhere else you can go, though. I didn't really go into it, seeing if anyone seriously would want to do it. We were running late again today. I've been taking the iron, but still have the horrible problems waking up. Forgot to grab an Ensure (I got banana cream to try). I was going to have that for b'fast. Stomach is growling like crazy, I think I'm going to get a carton of 2% milk from the vending machine. -

I'm with you Jennifur, I am soooooooooo far away. Just got to keep chugging along. Speakin of chugging, I think I'm going to change over to liquid diet during the day and then a normal dinner. I can't seem to get ANYTHING and I do mean ANYTHING through before 5pm. I tried the hot tea trick for the first time (before having stuck like the coffee incident yesterday), and it didn't help. Maybe this is suppose to be my TOM and I'm really tight or somethin. I have a migraine right now I'm afraid to take my migraine meds, in case they get stuck, last thing I need is PBing with a throbbing head. I'm not hungry. That's nice. This is normally when I'm wanting to ravage the kitchen. SOMEONE JUST PICKED UP OUR COUCH! WOOOHOOO. I put it on Craigslist, small world.. the person who responded was someone I went to church with when I was a kid.. she sent her husband to come get it.. someone else I went to church with! They got it out of here relatively easy (it took crafty techniques to get it IN the room, so same to get it out)..I danced around in the empty room because now I can finally set up a nice guest room!!! Anyone want to come to Alabama?? -
I have had chronic heartburn a decade before surgery, so I take a Prilosec everyday. I wouldn't know if the band did anything to cause heartburn, cause I refuse to have heartburn  I think I am overfilled right now, and plan to ask for a teeny tiny defill when I go back on Oct. 22.

A few things.. first, I don't see any reason to flame the OP. The risks ARE out there. For me, I didn't want to be blind to them, I understood them going into this. But honest to God the 'risks' of not having SOMETHING done were immenent. I already had pre-diabetes, and crippling back pain at 23. I weighed my options (no pun intended!!). And Lap-Band was the best option for me. I do and did come to the realization that the band might not 'work' for me. So far, it's great. I have had to have a port revision surgery. I was devastated the day I realized I had to go back under the knife, and I am ALL self pay. So this was another blow. And by the way, the hospitals made me pay everything in advance. But I'm back on track and peachy keen again! Anyway, my big selling point was.. if this band doesn't work for me.. I can still get RNY. I'm not planning on the band failing, and I'm working it by taking each day one at a time, but if it ends up the band won't help me get to a 'normal' weight.. I will likely have the RNY. If I had RNY and RNY didn't help me, or knowing "What if.. I could have had the reversible, healthier, and more agreeable for having kids surgery.. but instead I jumped right into RNY and now I can't undo it", it would be much more complicated. For now, I am very happy with my decision this far! I think it was worth every penny so far. My crippling back pain is gone. I lived with it for 3 years at such a young age, and now.. poof. I would have paid $100,000 if someone said they could make that pain go away!!! And they do place the band at a 'specific' angle now, I'm not sure exactly how recent it is, but it is different from bands years ago.. and they use the extra stitches to help it heal in place. I'm sure even a year from now, something will come up that makes it less-riskier. C'est la vie. My doctor due to my port complication (his first port complication), now places all ports where he replaced mine at. And I have watched the band fail someone at my doctor's office. She hasn't lost hope, in fact I don't think she realizes.. or maybe this board is just full of quick losers LOL. She was banded January 2007.. when I went for my July fill, I was down about 40lbs at that point. She was gushing to all the other patients that she had lost 3lbs since surgery. I wouldn't be excited about that quite honestly. And she looked about my pre-band stature (120-150lbs overweight). When we left, my husband made the remark.. you have to choose to eat right if you want to lose with it, they told you guys that (duh). But he just realized all of a sudden how much I work my band ;D

Shrinkage- I love that episode of Seinfeld, I keep it on TiVo for when I'm in a bad mood :Banane30: About the Soup, if one person can't eat them, another person can. Everyone is different with the band. Some people can't eat bread.. I can eat a whole slice of toast with no problem. But chicken? No way. Thinly sliced deli meat? NOPE! It varies so much person to person, the only way you'll know is if you try

I agree with wheet, that is exactly how I am. I lose in weird intervals. 1 month 0lbs. 1 month 15lbs. Overall, I've AVERAGED 2lbs a week, but I have only lost 2lbs a week once that I remember.

I luvre cherry pie filling, thats one of those things I would eat right out of the jar pre-band days.. Just to seeeee.. I looked, and the calories are outrageous in it. Does she use some special diety pie filling?

Pregnant and Banded...come join me!
Daisalana replied to raynie's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Congrats Panda!!! And woowoo on your decision :Banane30: My doctor kept reitterating he tells his patients DO NOT GET PREGNANT in the first year (he does a lot of RNY). He said he has had a lot of women get pregnant in the first couple months after dropping 50lbs and they have problems with nutrition and end up losing them. Even though I think pregnancy with RNY and Lap-band are night and day (and a part of my decision for lap-band)...I did not want to get pregnant and screw it up!! So I had to laugh a little at- 4) I didn't get pregnant right after surgery like a LOT of his patients do. I think I've done my part. -
Mint is icky! You know, my g'ma makes angel food cake and puts chocolate cool whip on top (I don't like normal cool whip). But the chocolate one tastes like chocolate mousse, its soo nummy.. And I was looking, the calories are only 25c tablespoon. 3 tbsp would be a decent little chocolate mousse. Any of you cool whip eaters ever tried freezing it? Does cool whip freeze well? I'm debatin gettin the chocolate and freezing it for chocolate ice cream.

Haha, I HAVE to get some of those TODAY. My poor husband, I have made him stop at the store so many times in the past week on our way home from work. We have 4 boxes of Caprisun left he bought last time he went by himself, 2 were 'my flavors' 2 were 'his flavors', but I've been trying to get him to drink mine so I can stop being tempted. His intentions were good when he bought them, but I hate having them all in my house. I need koolaid jammers!!!

That sounds good, I love turkey legs but never found any good recipes for them and when I've tried baking them they are really tough and stringy. I'm going to have to try that soon!!

BACK AWAY FROM THE EVIL TRACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's FINALLY cold here too. 2 days ago it was 90 degrees, yesterday was low 80's (felt better).. today it feels 50-60. It's COLD out. And so someone went nutso and cranked the heat up inside (no wind in here, not neccesarry!!) so it's about 200 degrees in my office, with a fan going lol. I was digging through the sample room and saw we just printed a cd holder for a weight loss surgery brochure. How neato :Banane30: It's by 5 doctors, one of which is in Dallas, TX. -
Still Researching... Questions I have
Daisalana replied to Thin@Heart's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
They told me no lifting heavy things till I came back to see them (which was 4-5 weeks). I hear 6 weeks is a good rule of thumb to let stitches heal. Sometimes I can feel the band in me, when I lay on my stomach, but it does not sound like this is a common thing. I can also feel my port if I push on my skin where it is. And when I eat, sometimes I can feel things 'go through'. Didn't go to Mexico.. Slippage is when the band slips from its position around your stomach. It can either block you up completely, or make you extremely loose. Some people's slipped bands are fixed by a complete unfill and a liquid diet, sometimes it requires another surgery to replace it. The other major complication is erosion, I see you didn't mention that so wanted to make sure you realized it was out there! Sometimes the band essentially dissolves into your stomach, which can cause your stomach to have a hole in it.. and ultimately they take out the band and may or may not have it replaced at another time. -
Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...

ohh color purple was Alice Walker.. good book!! And Kity, The Giving Tree is one of my fav. books too, but I don't consider it one of my 'book books' lol. I love Shel Silverstein. I remember in 4th grade when he died, I was devastated because I wanted to meet him and have him sign ALL OF MY BOOKS (you know how kids' minds work ) -
I am in the same boat, but my scale isn't drastically moving. But I feel like a medical bulimic!! I am getting a slight unfill when I go back on the 22nd. If my scale was just racing down, I'd probably just deal with it. I didn't say that, did I?

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Daisalana replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Husband just mailed me this joke LOL-- The Consultant and the Shepherd A shepherd was herding his flock in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of a dust cloud towards him. The driver, a young man in a Broni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and YSL tie, leans out the window and asks the shepherd, "If I tell you exactly how many sheep you have in your flock, will you give me one?" The shepherd looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing flock and calmly answers, "Sure. Why not?" The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his AT&T cell phone, surfs to a NASA page on the internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite navigation system to get an exact fix on his location, which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo. They young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany. Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses a MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with hundreds of complex formulas. He uploads all of this data via an email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response. Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer and finally turns to the shepherd and says, "You have exactly 1586 sheep." "That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my sheep." says the shepherd. He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on amused as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car. Then the shepherd says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my sheep?" The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?" "You're a consultant." says the shepherd. "Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?" "No guessing required." answered the shepherd. "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew; to a question I never asked; and you don't know crap about my business ...... Now give me back my dog."
