1/3 pound a week - Should I be happy?
Daisalana replied to VegasGrace's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You've come so far, 1/3lb a week at so close to your goal is fabulous!! How many times can you say you were so near goal from a diet, and you didn't start gaining? When I stall (and I'm still so far out), I just do a little dance because I'm NOT gaining. I'm keeping that weight gone for good! That's a first in my life. -
Did your new way of life affect your family's eating habits?
Daisalana replied to Cota129's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My DH's metabolism is slowing down and his rock hard abs are full fledged squishy now. I have been trying to hint to him, that he needs to eat healthier now too.. AND the fact that it's so obvious to me when I'm eating my little meals now. Sometimes he cares, especially in the beginning.. but I dunno. We use to drink coke all day long, now he only has 1 bottle at work so it's not around to tempt me. I won't eat fast food anymore unless in a real crunch (It's so hard to find something I can eat, AND that doesn't go over my allowed calories), so he eats fast food a lot less as well. I'm glad about that. If I'm adding years to my life, I don't want him to kill himself with all the fat either! But really, unless they want to eat better, just because you are it won't affect them. They can eat your healthy meal, then have a lot of snacks, a milkshake, etc. My DH seems to eat the left over of my healthy food whatever I'm having at the time.. along with his grease ball. -
My first official R&R...Bandsters who dont know a damn thing about banding
Daisalana replied to wrk-n-prgrss's topic in Rants & Raves
Ohh and PB & VOMIT. I have experienced so many levels of a PB.. sometimes it is a 'productive burp'.. sometimes it's just sliming and me choking the slime out.. and sometimes it is vomit-ous. So I call it PB most of the time since that's the 'lingo', but it's normally not as non-eventful as an actual PB. I like BandBarf -
My first official R&R...Bandsters who dont know a damn thing about banding
Daisalana replied to wrk-n-prgrss's topic in Rants & Raves
Ok, not to put a damper on this party.. But remember this is a support forum! People come here to ask the questions they're worried about, we were all new to the band!!! Granted, some things blow my mind.. like the band being installed on the..inside. I had to take a double take at that one. But asking if XXX is experienced, or ideas for XXX, is XXX normal, etc.. they just need someone to talk to about it. They don't want to call their doctor every 5 minutes for all the worries they're going through, so they come to a support forum. That being said, I do roll my eyes everytime someone says how they only eat (less than 500 calories or some ridiculous number) and work out every single night, they're 100lbs over weight and the scale just isn't budging! Give me a break.. -
Especially before you first fill, you'll likely be able to eat everything you ate pre-band again. Don't fall into the 'last meal syndrome'. It's not true!! You're not going to never eat these foods again. My DH orders chinese take out once a week just about. I can't eat a whole lot of it, but I enjoy fried rice, and beef & broccoli (my fav!!). I eat about 1/2c total of these, and I mix it together. And it's yummy and satisfying. Follow your diet. Period. This will pass! It's going to be rough post-op too while you're healing. Get into good habits of saying NO now. I had a KILLER craving for birthday cake ice cream from bruster's creamery down the road (less than 1 mile!) I hate that they are so close. I started fantasizing about it.. oy. I have told myself no more of that again, it's 450 calories per serving!! I don't even want to think about that, because 1 serving is so small. Anyway, I was thinking about running down there, just for 1 scoop. And then I remembered something I heard a while ago (when trying to stop smoking) when you crave something, the brain stops craving it after.. 15 minutes I think? Might even be 5 minutes. So I didn't go get ice cream, I said I'll watch the rest of my tv show and if I still crave it, I'll see about going then. By the end of the show, I'd forgotten about it.. and the next day I remembered and was proud I didn't do it! (I would have kicked myself all week if I had!). But it does pass, and life goes on.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Daisalana replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats Tracy!! That is great news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If he doesn't show up, doesn't it still apply since he's signed the papers? We're having tornados here, woowoo. Our power went out for an hour, in the middle of the city a big area.. thought it was a wreck, but ends up.. something just went on the fritz. It was pitch black in here, so we went to Waffle House down the road, whose power was out too but their grill works (and they have lots of windows!). I had 1 egg with cheese and grits. I don't know if I was hungrier than I thought or what, but this was the best eggs & grits I've ever had. Ever since last night, my restriction is going away!! UH OH! Now what do I do?! This means I'm losing weight around it I guess, and I'm going to ask for an unfill on Monday, but.. but.. if my restriction is loosening up, I don't know what to do. And it's not 'going away', I just went 2 meals without a PB.. meals that normally bother me (scrambled eggs). I am still going to get a little unfill, to be safe. We're under tornado watch till 11pm, and it's dark out. I love storms. I missed that when I lived in Albuquerque.. I couldn't wait to get back to all the tornados.. and since we moved back, they've been sparse.. Still have the horseshow tonight. I just hope it's not too bad with rain when we're driving down there.. it's about an hour away. -

Can be that you ate too much...Or ate too quick...Or are too tight...Or didn't chew well enough. -

I hate the silk screened shirts too. They're unflattering...on my body at least. Makes me look at least 5x bigger than I am.. and then something stupid on them. I don't like any 'advertising' shirts. My g'parents always get those for me for x-mas.. they become sleeping shirts, because I won't walk out of the house in them. SEQUINS.. and yeah, another 'what are they thinking??'. And as for gathering at the boobs. I hate hate hate that. I like low-cut because I like showing my cleavage.. but the shirts that pull to the center of the chest, or have the line cut under the boob (not the empire look, but where its suppose to just hold your boobs I guess?) I don't FIT in them. So then my boobs hang out underneath, and the shirt looks horrible on me. I bought one of these shirts once and learned my lesson. What I *DO* like-- tunics are in style, like crazy. This is the pointelle sweater I was talking about (I got it in cream) It is flattering, enhances the bust and minimizes the tummy. And I love sleeves that flare out at the end. -
I would not be that surprised, while reading it the first thing that came to mind.. someone who has WLS is desperate, are we not? We have tried everything, some people their whole lives. Finally, they are doing something major, last attempt. And if it doesn't work? I can see someone who has a history of instability or hopelessness, feeling like that's the last straw. Just my 2 cents. If Lap-band doesn't work (which it is thus far!), I would do RNY. If RNY didn't work, I wouldn't be suicidal. And honestly if I can just stay below the weight that makes my back hurt (which seems like around 295lb was the cut off), I'm a happy camper. Everything else is gravy.

I don't drink carbonated alcohol, and I count it in my daily calories, but once in a while I have a drink. Normally wine or white russian (CALORIES!!)..those are casino days when I'm not planning to eat anyway.

Has your sex life changed since getting the band?
Daisalana replied to 000000000's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My husband has made a comment (DURING sex), that he notices the weightloss. Since he sees me all day everyday, he rarely compliments me on it. But a couple weeks ago, during, he finally said something! I think I have less tummy between us, so we're closer together. Only thing I can think of that he noticed.. -
Has anyone who prev had a stroke have the surgery?
Daisalana replied to leoyne's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I honestly don't know, but have you asked your doctor about it? I would think they could tell you if you'd be a good candidate (before going to the seminars). -
chicken & turnips were NOT on my mushies food list??? Now, cheese grits is something I can relate to. Grits was a staple for me. I actually had that for lunch today!

Banded on the 15th..and I'm in SO much PAIN
Daisalana replied to NP1978's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 4/16/07.. But I thought it would not be too much pain.. and so when I was in horrible pain, I was very surprised. I thought maybe my doctor was playing with my body while I was asleep LOL! I did NOT take pain meds as directed, and hurt myself worse by pulling a muscle. So please please make sure you take your meds! The pain DOES get better with each day. Just make sure you take it easy for now. And when you do go back to work, don't be surprised if you feel weak and tired. You did just have an operation! I promise it goes away soon -
Down the road, I do think 1 lean cuisine for 2 meals is realistic. Those healthy choice meals (that have entree, 2 veggies, and dessert) I could easily turn into 3 meals even. I don't know how well those things reheat though. Anytime I do a lean cuisine, I give it to my husband to finish with his food.

Shopping for clothes is getting fun...
Daisalana replied to mumof2boys's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I bought my bathing suit from ON this year too.. I got a blue & white tankini set. The top fit great (I do have the boobs!), but the bottom was baggy. It was saggy on my butt, yet it was still my favorite bathing suit this summer.. Till I lost a little more weight and one day climbing on a float mom said she saw 'all my goodies'!!! :omg: The whole spandex fit to it, was completely gone, it was hanging off my thighs and butt. My parents keep all our old swim suits in a closet for guests if they need one.. so I dug out one of my old swimdresses from when I was a kid to wear. Heh! -
Congrats, you look great!! What is the 'cause'?

My DH isn't really concerned about it, so I don't tell him. He knew my highest weight, and I say things like 'Down xxlbs now!!' or "i'm officially OBESE instead of morbidly obese" now hehe. I weigh myself too often, and my common trend is bouncing. I have 3lbs I'll bounce between for a week I.E. 281-279.. bounce bounce.. by the end of the week, it's 3 new numbers- 280-278.. and so on. So I don't get discouraged with all he numbers, I know that bottom number is going to change soon I am trying to not weight myself as often though, I hid it under my cat bed and I'm waiting till my doctor's scale on Monday!

Well we try that.. but he's lazy. Some exclusive things for me-cooking. he won't cook. I tried saying, I'll cook if you clean up after it, that didn't work. I clean the house.. picking up trash, cleaning litter box, cleaning the animals, feeding the animals, making the bed, etc. His jobs are Dishes (because he fusses about me not washing them before going in the dish washer.. and I refuse to) But he won't do these for long periods of time, and 1/2 the time I end up doing them anyway. Laundry.. I hate cleaning them, he hates putting them away. So he does all the heavy lifting and changing between W&D, then dumps them on the bed and I put them away. I pick up the trash in the house, but taking trash out is his job. And at our new house, trash only runs ONCE a week and we can't have any cans over 32 gallon(GAH). It's a headache.. and so the night of trash, I tell him about 20 times "Take the trash out!" and he says "I will".. but doesn't do it when I say it.. and at least once a month when we have lots of trash to go out, and I've told him to take it out.. I go to bed before he does, wake up next morning and he FORGOT. Drives me nuts, he needs to just do it when I remind him if he can't remember himself! Vacuuming is his thing. Paying bills is me. The problem I find is that.. my things, get done because I'm an adult and I do what I need to do. For him, nothing will get done unless I ask or tell him to. And when I do, he acts like a kid. Huffs and makes a scene. He never does things on his own accord, and I get to feel like crap for asking him to help out. We both hate grocery shopping, but I make him go with me. Again, I hate going and don't want to do it.. but it needs to get done, so everytime we go, I hear him whine and complain the whole time. Then he tries to tell me I have '30 minutes' to get everything. When he does that kind of stuff, I deliberately take a long long time so he knows he can't rush me. heh!
-
After my PB's I don't want to eat.. I feel like crap.. I get a feeling of 'relief' at some point, like I got whatever was bothering me.. and I'll do liquids. When I have a bad episode I do liquids for the rest of the day (or try to).

I have become a pro at finding my odd sizes online. First about Alloy's sleeves. Their pants, I could wear fine, even at my highest.. Their shirts? FORGET ABOUT IT. They were like 5x too small for each size, seriously. The 3xl didn't even fit on my friend who was an xl(tried to give her a shirt I ordered). On that note, they had a beautiful pointelle tunic (long sleeve) for sale, I bought last week with my new pants. I knew my history with them, but I wanted to give it a shot. So I bought their 3xl. Not only does it fit (and fit well), the sleeves are long and billowy like they're suppose to be and the tunic is long enough to cover the poofs in my pants right now. Very pleased with that. Ok here's my tricks. I WAS a size 24/26, 5xl, size 11 W(or WWW as big as I could get it). Old Navy's pants & shirts were big one me. Casual Plus Fashion Clothes for Junior Plus size, Woman plus size apparel Online Store - Has really cute outfits, and VERY cheap (in comparison) Shirts list their length, so I knew if they would be long enough. Their sizes DO run small, I wore 5xl there even though I was 24/26 most other places. I still wear about a 4xl with them now at size 20/22. This place won't boost your self esteem, but the shirts are nice. I never tried their pants. Torrid.com - Plus sizes in exciting, cutting-edge apparel and accessories for young women sizes 12-26 - SEXIEST wide width sexy shoes I ever had. I have knee-high chunk heeled vinyl boots from them.. that actually fit. I have rounded toe high heel shoes, stiletto heel shoes, etc. All of their shoes are 'made for a wide foot'. They don't look 'old lady'. I love their shoes. They have some OK clothes, not really my style.. and their sizes do run big from my experience. alight.com - plus size clothing for full figured women + teens - sizes 14 to 32. The hottest plus size styles at the best prices. My favorite hippie clothes (thats my style). They are EXPENSIVE. 30-50 bucks for one shirt. So, I shop their clearance (which can still hurt!) anytime I go there. Their shirts list the length also, so I know which do and do not fit (they have to be 28" inseam on shirts to fit me). They list if their sizes run small on an item. And of course, Alloy which is where I normally ONLY get pants, until last week when I tried a tunic and it worked out great!
