Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Kat- I just responded Pamela- Yes, my TOM are all out of whack right now. Just got to work, was mom's b'day so I got the first set of my cookie bouquet for her to see how it goes. It's purple and green stars & a circle that says happy birthday. She seems to like it! We had bad storms last night and her power went out, so she came to my house. She ate some of the cookies that fell apart (I had them sitting on the counter), and liked those.. so I'm sure she'll like the decorated ones lol. Time to start workin and drinkin my water! Have a good day ya'll!

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

It's a rare occasion I drink carbonated drinks, like I said I NEVER liked diet drinks, so I have no temptations there, and looking at the nutritional facts on normal cokes has kept me in line 99% of the time. I haven't had a Mt. Dew since.. 1 month pre-op. That was my crack. I actually crave normal coke once in a while, but haven't died to have a Mt. Dew. One day I was choking, dad had a Mt. Dew, only thing around.. I took one sip of it to stop choking. It was not as good as it use to be, and I didn't want to drink more than I had to. So that was nice. Blackberry Merlot, not sure if that's carbonated? When I drink it, I don't see/feel bubbles. I think it's not..

How Many Have Lost 100lbs In 6 Months???

Ok, I guess I should clarify. I'm not complaining per say, but.. of COURSE I would like it to be quicker. I'm quite happy with -65lb gone for good!

    Ok - getting super scared!!

I never had gas pains.. But if its gas pains from surgery you're talking about.. you could be like me and not have them, or you can just chalk it up to the surgery.. that should be the least of your worries, it's not permanent..

    GERD and the Lap Band

I take 1 Prilosec a day.. my miracle pill. If I forgot to take it, the next day I have acid reflux the entire day no matter what I eat (or don't eat).

    Migraines? who suffers like me?

Migraines are a new thing to me. I get them a couple times a month now, and I don't know why. I take over the counter migraine meds.. they don't work super good, but it takes the edge off.. and then I drink hot tea with no sweetener (something a friend taught me, dunno if it really works but whatever).

    Ok - getting super scared!!

Injections aren't painful. You're worried about gas? You don't have gas now? I'm confused.. The statistics aren't bad really for complications.. Of course, I couldn't believe *I* was one either. Especially being self-pay. Was another $2.5k out of my pocket to fix the port. But a week after the 2nd surgery, I still was happy I did it, and ready to keep on going. Most the stuff you're posting is posted throughout the boards.. But the lap-band is a pretty safe surgery.. but it DOES take work on your part.. so if you're not ready to commit to a new lifestyle of eating, you may want to wait.. If you have a complication or you decide you are miserable, the lap-band is very easily reversed, and you go on about your life. But if you're not one of those people, it helps you lose & maintain your weight for the rest of your life. Go to another seminar

"But he's also on a diet!"

I get the opposite from my mom. Anytime I'm in a rut and mad about the stalled loss, she tells me to be patient, this surgery is not intended to make you lose it quickly! And when I'm having issues with my fills, she's always there to tell me 'get an unfill'. BLAH! I wish she was as gung ho about it, heh. Tell your dad that you don't wanna lose too quick so you don't get loose skin. Or tell him to mind his own business?

How Many Have Lost 100lbs In 6 Months???

I don't notice any energy difference when I do low-carb. I do know I am fuller longer when I don't do carbs. But it's a real struggle to do NO CARBS for me. Like cheerios.. I like cheerios for b'fast. But you're right, if it makes us lose weight, you'd THINK that's enough to keep us from eating them. But then I'd have been a skinny kid, and not doing a million fad diets if I had that kind of logic controlling my will power

Not lovin' the band - so far

Don't get down trodden.. well, you will in the course of it.. but you have to just keep on keeping on! I'm 7 months out, and in our April banders, we ALL have our moments. You hit plateaus. My first month post-op I lost 35lbs. Then the next month.. 0lb. Not a SINGLE POUND!! I was not filled until September, so I know how frustrating it is. But just know, it gets better. You'll lose weight.. then you'll plateau.. and you just keep on keeping on

I don't drink carbonation much anymore, since I mostly drink water and SF kool aid.. But when I go to Tunica (once every other month?) I have my shirley temples! And I had champagne at my wedding. I don't think one time hurts anything. Some people experience pain from carbonation, it doesn't hurt me though. I wouldn't drink it every day though! I can see the logic of how it would stretch the pouch out eventually.

I'm not a big fan of alcohol, but I've found 2 things I like now.. Dirty martini (which is vodka so nah). And then Blackberry Merlot. It's like bottled candy! And it's wine. I think we get Arbor Mist, gas station and cheap LOL. But it's very good.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

I ordered a chef salad yesterday from Steak Out to bring for lunch today. I forgot it. Waaah. My stomach is growling and that salad sounds soooooo good Back on strict Atkins. This is what I anticipated.. Atkins can help me lose it, the band helps me maintain. I've been eating random stuff (not all low-carb) and I have stayed at 268.6lbs all week. So if I can stop the carbs some more, lose weight, band will help me maintain. Darn it, I need my excited gung ho will powered self to wake up.
  14. Well while these are valid points, I have to point out.. Before I got the surgery, I read how the pain was minimal. I've not given childbirth, so couldn't compare.. but I have a high threshold for pain. I wasn't expecting too much pain after surgery, just soreness. But when I woke up, it was EXCRUCIATING. I have broken bones before that didn't hurt that bad. So, for some of us the pain is bad. I don't know what the difference is, maybe my surgeon does the crap I see them do in Big Medicine, where they 'play' with the body to explain something to someone else. But I had sharp sharp pains and having to sit up or roll over, etc. made me cry out in pain.

    Do you eat popcorn?

I've never been a big fan of popcorn, the home microwave popcorn isn't good enough to me.. it's alright, but I LOVE movie theatre popcorn. Since banding, we've gone to the movies twice and I get a small bag (for myself mwhaha) instead of the big tub. But I don't eat it at home.. it's too much work (picking all the kernels out afterward) for something that is only so-so.

How Many Have Lost 100lbs In 6 Months???

Just because I'm hearing how quickly others are losing! I started with 153lbs to lose, the first 40lbs were 'easy' for me, but the rest make me work it. I would think if you're over 100lbs overweight, more weight would be 'easy' to lose like others said. But I figured out my own 'secret', If I just cut out carbs, it drops like nobody's business. Lost 5lbs last week from 3 days of no carbs. I just gotta stick to it. :phanvan

I love the spud mackenzie dogs (forget the breed?). The pot bellied pig sounds like a lot of fun. DH is such a jerk when it comes to me getting new pets (I have to just show up with it, and he falls in love.. but asking him to get one is always NO!). He would freak out if I brought a pig home!! But I'm going to start researching it now.. shh..
  18. (Click it to start). Someone at work sent me this, and I was crying from laughter. This is 100% one of my cats. She does this every morning.

If you have a cat, you must see this...

Just had to let ya'll know. The LOLZ cats has been a big hit with me and DH, we e-mail our favorites back and forth at work.. For part of his Christmas gift, I got a customizable gift card to Best Buy.. I took a picture of one of our cats, photoshopped it to look like she's holding a bunch of Xbox 360 games and at the bottom put 'I has games 4 u' hehehehehe!

I almost got a great dane last year. They were SOO expensive though, the cheapest in town were $1,200. I think they are gorgeous, that'll be our next dog. DH's parents use to breed boxers, so he felt strongly about our dog being a boxer. I didn't care, was just excited to get a dog. I don't think I ever want a toy breed again, that much I know. I like having a big dog that can wrestle me lol.

You know, I've never experienced the death of a dog. I will be devastated when Cassy passes the rainbow bridge some day. My family was cat people. I've lost a lot of cats, which was hard, but I never bonded with cats (except 1 of the ones I have now) like I bonded with Cassy. I convinced my parents to get a dog when I was about 10, a pug. Then we got another pug when I was 12. They are still at my parents house, and they are soo old. They were outdoor dogs, and very sweet, but I wasn't really bonded so much with them. I think one of them will have to be put to sleep soon, she is blind and can't breathe or walk. Cassy on the other hand, is like my little girl. She is an indoor dog, so she sleeps with us, lives with us, etc. She is always interacting with us (unlike the pugs that were outdoor dogs at my parents house). So.. I can't imagine what that day will be like. My sister had a puppy die of leptosporosis, a kidney killing disease.. and my dog had been exposed to it. We were frantic. It ends up they are vaccinated for it, but to be safe our vet recommended another booster of it. We did that, and were told symptoms took 1 month.. so for a month I was watching her like a hawk, and hugging her all the time, just so afraid something would happen to her. Luckily, she's fine.
