My band doc highly favors GB over the band. He had GB himself, and he said at his meeting, if his daughter needed WLS, he would want her to have GB. I raised my hand and asked why.. He said, because with the GB you don't have a foreign body inside you, which can be rejected at any point, for no reason. (I think staples are permanent too from the GB, which is confusing..) In any event, that was his argument. I also have a friend who said her friend got the LB and a month later had to have it removed, her body rejected it. Our bodies work in mysterious ways really.. They do reject foreign bodies, they reject babies sometimes, and there's no rhyme or reason. If you want to persue finding out no one can tell you not to, but it really just might be 'one of those things'. Have you asked your doc about the chances of your body rejecting the staples from GB or the tube for the sleeve? If they're related?

Your doc has to weight you, put weights in your shoes, fill your pockets with rolled quarters, etc.. get your BMI to show 35 if you're concerned :rolleyes2:

Yeah, that's why I think he needs out of that environment to start.

Hehe, just money. Maybe I'll take my tax stimulation thing to the bank and save up to have PS one day after I've had kids and blah blah. But knowing you are doing the PS, anytime you see your skin and get upset about it, just think "In xxx amount of time, it'll be gone!"

Details? Might be able to offer input if we knew the situation :rolleyes2:

You 1st Meal Post-Op
Daisalana replied to WendyRae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the crab cake appetizer from Ruby Tuesday's with cocktail sauce instead of their chili sauce. NUM NUM NUM, it was heaven. I only ate 1/2 of it. -
Well.. just keep in mind you're getting PS. My insurance won't cover it, and I can't get the funding for it.. so I am going to have to deal with the saggy skin the rest of my life.. or unless I hit the lottery (which I don't play hah). Keep your eye on the prize? :rolleyes2:

Did I tell you guys I streaked my hair??? I did my normal dark brown base, then I did some blonde highlights along the top. Everyone has been complimenting me about it, and it makes me feel very trendy! I will take pics tonight to show you guys.

Poll: Insurance pay or you?
Daisalana replied to Chuckles's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My insurance covers it, but my policy does not. All money was out of pocket. Weeeee. God blessed me with access to deep pockets, otherwise I'd still be miserable. -
GB has been around longer, and the results are much more dramatic. Lose 100lbs in 6 months! Can take 2 years with a band. Etc. And TV is all about ratings.. dramatic stuff gets more ratings. And, GB is still more common than LB. So overall they have a larger pool of people to pick from. Even the LB things I have seen in the news (on tv) it's never a dramatic loss, I've seen more dramatic on our forums. I don't know if they just picked the wrong person or what, but it emphasizes how slow the band can be. Someone who lost 30lbs in 6 months with 150lbs to go. Good for them, yay, but lets see someone whose at goal!

Ya know, they have the pictures of people on the restrooms so you can tell which catagory you fit in if yer drunk! You just have to decide.. am I wearing a skirt, or pants? :rolleyes2:

Post-op: So depressed... so lost
Daisalana replied to adorkbl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can relate, and I think sitting at home is just highlighting the problem. I was going to see a shrink, but it was a 3 month wait list and then near time, they had to cancel it. So I gave up on that.. Keeping busy is the solution for me. If I sit around with too much time on my hands, I will get depressed. But I work full time, student full time, and when I go home, I clean my house, clean my animals, cook dinner (i've REALLY gotten into cooking since banding). I love making gourmet foods, trying new recipes, trying things I've never done.. like lamb roast! Take up a new hobby. Cross stitching, crochet, painting, writing, whatever. The weekends are my down time, and I play a lot of video games too (FFXI mostly) which is very time consuming. And cook and clean. -
Want Advice to be a successful bandster - Jeni
Daisalana replied to Jeni's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't diet.. and the comment about pizza.. with good restriction, pizza is out for most. I've tried it on a couple occasions, and there's no way to get that bread down.. so I eat the toppings off of a pizza in a pinch. So maybe it's kind of like a diet, but it's not intentional. I just can't eat certain stuff.. The band does a good job about portion control. The biggest advice I have, is to rid your house of the junk that goes down easy. You may feel like binging, and you're not going to be able to binge on some fruit & veggies.. but if you have a bag of chips, it'll likely go down pretty well (everyone is different of course). So I keep 100 calorie snacks for my 'bad days'.. but other than that, I don't make 'low-fat' or 'diet' foods.. I make chili, or chicken casserole, or keilbasa and saurkraut, etc. But now, instead of eating a whole plate full, it's less than 1 cup.. and I'm satisfied! -
How much food do you eat at your sweet spot?
Daisalana replied to dustout's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If my doc wasn't givin me fills when I asked for em, I'd go to another doc. Luckily, he lets me decide how I think I'm doing. I had a fill from the port-revision, was too tight, unfilled in November, decided maybe I wasn't too tight, just not use to how restriction fills.. got filled back up in Dec. Now I am pretty tight, it's hard to eat a lot of solid foods, but liquids go down fine. I eat about 1/4-1/2c of food depending on time of day. Mornings are a lost cause, I will always spit up solid breakfasts, so I stick to a coffee, frappuccino, v-8, or milk. Lunch I am still pretty tight, so I have soup, or a few really small bites of something solid that take a while to eat. Dinner I am still restricted, but not nearly like I am for the rest of the day. Depending on what I'm eating.. I have never had a rice problem, but pasta doesn't go down well. And bread is out. I still try to eat bread even though it makes me sick!! A typical dinner is about 1/2c of food, spread out over whatever I feel like eating. I make dinner most the time, DH eats most of what I make and I take 1/2c and pick at it. -
Yeah, and I know I'm bitter, but hopefully I'm in good company.. I hope they don't keep trying to make him diet and doing the yo-yo thing. He needs to just get a WLS and honestly, get out of that house. His dad is not a good influence, and I can totally relate to binging if you're around someone who makes you feel that way.

I was about to say what Dream did.. it's not really free.. and our local Holiday Inn, if you say you don't want the 'free breakfast', they give you a rate discount.

Yeah, I've visited a lot of places, lived in Atlanta, Albuquerque and Nashville.. But I always knew, when I wanted to 'settle down' I wanted to be where I am. It's a great city, great schools, great people. ABQ was the worst crime I've ever seen, so big cities are definitely out for me to have kids in. So here I am.

Nevermind, won't let me post it some reason

Congrats Michelle!!! After my Tunica trip, I'm stalling again.. eep. And I ate the other 1/2 of my cake last night, and then DH's piece (he forgot about it..) I need to get back in gear. Someone smack me!! Got this e-mail, thought it was cute.. <STRONG>A 1st grade school teacher had twenty-six students in her class. She presented each child in her classroom the 1st half of a well-known proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb.

Oh and Jenn, I'm slightly disappointed lol. I didn't know you weren't from there, but I ADORE the northern accents. My best friend is from Boston, she can't say my name lol. Sounds like a hairball. All the customers I have up in NY I am going to see, have that fast-talking hard northern accent. Reminds me of something, COVER YOUR EYES MICHELLE!! Co-worker was saying yesterday that Chris Daughtry & Bon Jovi are playing in Atlanta soon together, she says "That's a TT concert". I said what's a TT?? Hahahaha.. I died.. she said "Tooter twitchin". ROFLMAO. So anyway, the northern accents are TT accents! mwhaha.

The sugah thing always creeped me out!! My g'dad was a creepy guy though. I've never been a pet name calling person. There's some people I know who call everyone 'doll' or 'sweetie', etc. I guess because growing up when a waitress ever called my mom something like that, she would get disgusted and talk about how rude it was.. so I never picked up on it lol.

My DH is from Pennsylvania, lived in TN with his family since he was about 13. But his brothers are somehow REDNECKS. Serious ones. DH is more like me- no accent. But anytime he calls his friends back in TN or his brothers, instantly my DH turns into a redneck. I always make fun of it, and ask him what the hell that's all about. He's an educated person with a normal voice.. then all of a sudden BAM.. a big drawl and makin up twangy words. My g'pa had a weird carolina accent.. Called everyone 'sugah' and winked as he talked.
