bmi of 30 - will any surgeon help me?
Daisalana replied to carlou72's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My band keeps me from my binge eating ways. I haven't figured out how to eat around it.. don't tell me!! But I do think you have a tighter reign on it than you think if you're only 170lb 12/14 clothing. If you binged all the time (like you say you do), I would imagine you'd be quite bigger. I think band as a preventative measure is a good idea in adults, if they want to go through with it. -
Will I be the one for whom the band doesn't work?
Daisalana replied to BrooklynBandster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think we all have these thoughts. I thought this even 6 months post-op, when the fills didn't do anything for me. I was lamenting to my monthly group about how it's not working for me. Then they found out the port was flipped, fixed it, and I'm not a failure with the band! The plus side of the band (to me), is that it's reversible. If I did RnY first, and failed.. then what? If I fail with the band, they can take it out and I can find something else. -
I was told no NSAIDS (anti-inflammatory).. but aspirin & tylenol are ok. His reasoning is NSAIDS may cause erosion...although I heard this is speculation, but not worth risking. I take advil (an NSAID) once in a blue moon when I have muscle inflammation.

Just around the corner and you'll be in band land ) Good luck

Couple of solutions... Don't eat in front of the tv if that is something you have problems with. Turn the TV off, enjoy the company with you, or just focus on eating what you need to be satiated. Put the portion on your plate ahead of time, of how much you should be eating. Don't put all the food on there and trust yourself to stop 'when you should'. As for drinking after eating, when I got decent restriction, drinking with eating was bad for me. I would spit up. So make a conscious effort post-op to wean yourself out of drinking w/eating, and maybe eventually you'll have a reinforcement not to!

Anyone wear skirts now but didn't before??
Daisalana replied to Christal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOL! I would never wear skirts/dresses, and in the past year I have bought a few, and worn them. I am always uncomfortable that the skirt will blow up, and still worry about that. I guess I do like them more now that I can cross my legs when I sit down. Crossing ankles in skirts before I lost weight was not fun. -
I never used anything like that, but sometimes last year I looked into (non-diet place) food delivery places. They were too expensive, but if I had the money I would have done it. Gourmet meals, and they have low-cal, low-carb, etc. options. I found 3 places, no longer book marked, but I found them by googling 'gourmet food delivery'.

For me, I substituted snacking for lack of smoking (since I normally use smoking to keep from snacking), and that caused my weight gain. The only side effect I got from Chantix was the weird nightmares. I had them every night. It wasn't enough to make me stop taking it, but the weight gain was. When I get to goal, I'll dedicate myself to exercising to counter act it. Right now, I'm exercising to lose weight, not counteract food.

I find it to be a phenomenon too! About 6 months ago I tried a piece of deli sliced turkey, and had a miserable PB. On a teeny tiny piece. My only thinking is that it is too light (weight wise) to get into the hole, so it causes the stomach to spasm trying to dispose of it. It's all a theory, I just needed to justify why this possible could happen. I have yet to try deli meat since then (

Insights Needed: Constant Burning Sensation
Daisalana replied to KimberlyNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You need to get to a band doctor to have it checked out. If you can't get your doctor to get back in touch with you (that's horrible!), find another doctor you can go to that is experienced in banding. -
Edited because.. because!

Do you like the new look of LapbandTalk? I don't.
Daisalana replied to angelface's topic in The Lounge
Yeah, I'm not too keen on it, but when I found out I can click "Forums" at the top.. it's just one more step when I'm browsing, but at least it's still there. -
Well, I understand the need to vent. My insurance wouldn't cover it, and despite the confidence I have in certain Mexico doctors, my family wouldn't back me on it. But like Ang, I see an entitlement issue with you saying you feel you deserve it more than others. I was 300+lbs in high school, and the only time I was 225lb was maybe in 4th grade. Does that mean I deserved the surgery more than you? It's not our place to decide who is more 'deserving' of the surgery, and because someone else was approved, that did not result in you being denied, so the rant against people who were approved when you were not, is a bit misguided. Hope you get things worked out, and if you can convince anyone who would be concerned, to go to Mexico.. for self-pay I think that's the way to go.

Morning V's! yes it was my bandiversary, Jenn was the Virginia Tech shootings all over the tv the day of your surgery? I woke up this morning and on Good Morning America they were talking about today being the 1 year anniversary and I went.. that's my bandiversary! I have been having great days since eating is so hard, but I found out in a bad way how easy Junior Mints go down. 170c per servings, 3.5 servings per box.. I ate the whole box. Oy. Good thing I'm going to the gym 2 days in a row, that's a lot of creamy mint & chocolate goodness to get rid of!!!

It just dawned on me, as I browsed the post-op threads.. Many of those posts are likely made while loopy on pain meds. This explains a lot of the weird sentences, child-like typing and the freaking out over little things.

Turning into a bad work day. Won't go into it, cause it doesn't even matter, but darn. Makin me sad. I go to the dentist soon, one of those scam things I think. I have to go originally (not sure if insurance pays for these things anyway) to schedule an appointment to have him pull a tooth. I don't understand why I gotta go twice.

I'm Running Out of Lunch Ideas - Any suggestions.
Daisalana replied to luvinke's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Have you tried the wrap? Can you eat it? One small bowl of Wendy's chili is plenty for me. I normally don't even finish the entire thing at lunch time. I guess it depends on your restriction, but if you've never tried it for lunch, you may want to just start with the chili and go from there. Refried Beans (I ask for onions in addition) & cheese from Taco Bell is also good. Or the filling from a variety of their burritos. -
Only way to know is if you try to eat them. For a long time, I had no problem with asparagus which was one of the specific taboo veggies on my doc's list. But in the past month or so I have somethin weird happen. I eat the asparagus, and after each piece, I spit up the fiberous part. Only the fiberous part. It's like the rest went down, but these pieces wouldn't. And it doesn't make me slime or hurt, I just burp up strings.

Walmart junior sizes are disposable wear for me, simply because the first time I wash it, it shrinks 3 sizes at least and I can't wear it. I have a whole load of clothes in my closet I wore once, and am waiting to be able to wear again when I shrink more. Clothing exchange never picks up, but when I go through jeans (some only worn a couple times, I was moving quick for a while there) and they were expensive jeans, I send them out to people here that want them. I have been setting aside a new collection of jeans I need to get rid of, size 17's. I'll make a post in the general forum when I get enough collected.

Yeah I gotta say, that must be an awesome NSV. The poster child for the lap-band forum. You deserve it though!!

I've almost been killed by people on their cells as well as texting. I say people should not be engrossed on the phone when operating heavy machinery. -
I believe Fashion Bug & Cato's have petite. I wouldn't know for sure since I never look for it, but sometimes when I've tried on pants they come to my calves and I know that's not right. And some shirts are ridiculously short on me, so I must wander into petite without realizing it, or they just make some items petite and don't mark it. I think Bras are a damn conspiracy. I haven't bought any since banding till yesterday. $28 each at LB, which is the only place I like bras from. I don't even buy shirts that are $28 each, and its a BRA!

Kat- I've had the mysterious belly button itch before, it goes away on its own (I never figured out a cure for mine). I have 2cc in my 4cc and I am tight as.. tight. My band was the 9.75 size, he said it was fitted when he put it on empty, so he didn't know if I'd even need a fill. I guess I didn't since I lost some before they could finally fill it, then it loosened up. 1.5cc was a great spot for a while, now I have 2cc and I dare say I feel a bit too tight. But I think I'm just going to tough it out, losing weight really seems to effect my fills so I'll loosen up eventually. Down to 229lb!! And some reason, this number won't come out of my mouth. I keep saying 329 or 239. 220's is a new milestone, my brain won't comprehend it! I'm having hot chocolate for b'fast. I bought the carnation instant breakfasts, and some swiss miss hot chocolate "great start". I compared nutritional info. The carnation is 150c when you mix it with milk, and slightly more Vitamins. The hot chocolate is packed with 15 vitamins & minerals, and it goes with hot Water for 110c. So nyah. The hot chocolate is sooo good, I was worried they made it healthy tasting.. but nope, just rich chocolate goodness. Everyone have a good day )

So I just finally bought some new bras. I haven't bought any new ones since banding.. oddly enough.. I get attached to good bras I guess. Mom finally pointed out how bad my boobs look in a bra that is too big. I went from 44DD to 40D. I was wrong, I need DD. My boobs bubble out. Crap! Then to reward DH for bra shopping in LB with me, we went to Game Stop next door. Jeez geeks never cease to amaze me. DH picked out 2 games, I found a Sim I wanted to try (installing it now), and he and the geek register kid were going on and on about how good some fighting games were. Then DH wanted to pay for Grand Theft Auto 4 in advance, which comes out end of this month. Guy asked if he wanted the 'supreme' version, and I rolled my eyes. It comes with a dufflebag and a lockbox for $30 more. GIVE ME A BREAK! I said "no he doesn't" and they laughed and the guy was going on about how cool they were (uh huh) and then DH says "if she wasn't with me, I'd get it, I understand man!" Then the guy talked about his room he dedicated to video game stuff, with a stand-up video game display and I said "You must be single?" hehehe. I'm sooo hungry, and Sims takes forever to install!!
