Wow, I would be happy you've recovered so quickly. I'm 1 week tomorrow and still very sore. I'm struggling to get in my protein and Water in. My hunger started returning yesterday, but I'm still limited to 4 TBLS a meal. Have you been following your post-surgical diet plan? I'd talk to your doctor. If you are healed consider yourself lucky.

When Does The Gas Pain End??
utcaneuser replied to Roxygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm with you Roxygirl I'm still fighting the gas and pain and soreness. The pain is dropping and I'm lowering the amount I use. I'm down to about every 8 hrs for the pain meds. I think part of my pain/soreness is because a port site is on my left side and my left arm basically sits on it. I try to move it but its my paralyzed arm from my stroke so I can only do so much. I'm walking, drinking my water, trying to get in my protein. I've yet to have a bm. i'm taking my liquid Colace so I'm sure that is contributing to things. If things mellow out they just fill back up. grrrrrrrrrrr -
Port Bump And Exciting New Pains!
utcaneuser replied to Jellyfish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the shoulder pain could be from gas build up, i don't have any suggestions for the breathing issues, I took my oxygen off within 2 hrs of surgery and have been fine ever since, I know a deep breath is painful because it goes to the bottom of my lungs and into my diaphram area. There are many posts on here that just the diet changes are enough to change your cycle. things will mellow out once your body adjusts to the diet change which it hard with it constantly changing right after surgery. then about the time it adjusts to the diet it will need to adjust to the weight change so it could be a while. everyone is different. Hopefully it just needs to adjust to the diet. I wish you luck. -
I know a coworker with the band and she has issues with the crust. She can eat the topping, and maybe 2 bites of the crust. I prefer a softer crust so I'm planning on it being a issue.

Gas As Soon As I Drink Anything
utcaneuser replied to farmgirl04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same place banded Monday. Lots of gas mainly burping no bm yet been taking the liquid Colace to try to get things moving along with my dairy that usually helps. I notice lots of air with big drinks or little drinks. i've been burping myself by pushing gently on my lower abdomin. warm liquids are best room temp seem to upset my tummy. The pain is improving; now its sitting up and bending over are my biggest challenges. i've been able to drop pain meds to only 1 and every 8 hour as long as I don't over do those 2 activities. a few more days and we will all feel a lot better. -
loose clothing; brush/comb;toothbrush if desired.

Day 2 Post Op..
utcaneuser replied to Erin O'Donnell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 4 is going better. Still a lot of pain but nothing like yesterday, I'm figuring out how to move easier without causing as much pain. I'm still only making it 6 hrs during the day between pain meds but I'm down two 1 instead of 2. At night I'm making it 8+ hours, but only if I take both pain meds. No shoulder pain, just a stiff. I have lower back bain worse than anything. I'm a side sleeper but that isnt an option. I'm on thicker type foods. pureed chicken, cottage cheese, refried Beans, greek yogurt etc.4 TBL per meal plus Water of course. -
Well I was banded on Monday. No complications; it just took him extra time based on my circumstances. My previous gallbladder and exploratory abdominal surgery had left scar tissue he had to dissect. My Hiatal Hernia was very easy to fix apparently 1 stitch in front 2 in back. The odd part was the band placement. My Pancreas sits higher and closer to my stomach than is normal so he had to place the band higher and give me a smaller pouch so the band wouldn't interfere with my Pancreas. Total time under was 2.5 hours. I'm very sore though.; sitting up straight and bending r very painful. I'm trying to get in my liquids. Well off for another cat nap then to make a few phone calls.

1 Day To Go And Not Feeling Well....
utcaneuser posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I go in tomorrow @ 7 to be banded surgery is @ 8. I feeling quite queasy right now. Normally things don't get me upset. I don't know if this nerves or one of my "episodes". About once every 1.5-3 months I hit a weekend(yes always a weekend...?????) Usually a Sunday that I just get queasy. about 80% of the time I end up throwing up bile despite the fact I have been eating during the day. I just have to deal with it and try to get some promethazine down after and keep it down. By if I can do that I'm fine and its over. I'm just hoping I can keep things together so I can have surgery. I don't want to stop my surgery or cause further complications... any suggestions???? -
1 Day To Go And Not Feeling Well....
utcaneuser replied to utcaneuser's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No I already had mine removed 4.5 years ago its mellowing out a little. A few more things to pack and I'm ready. Baby steps taking it easy anything more than 15 minutes standing sets off my tummy again so its a little at a time, since I can only use 1 arm. -
best of luck

i check in at 7 as well

Wow, I have not been banded yet , but I would think you need to put some grains in your diet, not a lot just a few times a week. Cream of Wheat, oatmeal, etc; they are important for health especially cardiovascular. Also how is your exercise are you at least walking daily? Consider the fact that some people don't respond to diet and exercise and need meds. Vitamin E is a natural suppliment that is good for cardiovascular health, my doctor has me on it. I don't know if that helps, but those are my thoughts. Good luck

So I've been making my own smoothies. 1 cup skim milk 4 oz Dole Frozen mixed fruit from a bulk bag 1/4-1/2 C Water 1 scoop Protein Powder blend together and enjoy... ~270 calories today as I was enjoying my breakfastwhich takes me about 30+ to consume I realized the blender puts a lot of air into my Breakfast. Granted I consume slowly, but could this present a problem with my band?

Pre-Op And I Am A Hungry, Hungry Hippo!
utcaneuser replied to BeeBlueHeron's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stay strong everyone drink water when hunger hits. Don't cheat. I did once and I feel terrible for it. -
My paperwork for FMLA is all finalized thank god. Since Surgery is Monday. Nervous, excited, scared, hoping my 3 week pre-op diet did the trick and my liver is small when I try to feel just under my ribs I feel a solid object but I don't know if its my liver. I admitted I cheated once, it has me scared, I don't think it was enough to delay my surgery. I'm not trying to justify it I shouldn't have it was a bean/cheese burrito and a chicken taco. I've been better following the diet since and cutting my calories, my fingers are crossed I'm ok.

Bariatric Fusion are pretty good. They come in a variety of flavors and although not as cheap as OTC they are not gonna break the bank.

I have a hiatal hernia and its being fixed when my band is being placed. Get a 2nd opinion. I'm just getting ready to start my journey. I know your scared. I'm scared too. If they say no as well, you already have the tools to help you the small portions the exercise, just follow those steps. Now that you've already taught yourselve you don't need to depend on the band anymore. It was just a step in your life, you can do this, you are strong enough and smart enough to overcome this. I can't say I've been through what you have we all have our own stories and challenges, but I have faith you can do this. Best of luck.

best of luck to all those banded today you do great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've received my approval after denial appeal now the dr just need to submit my fmla paperwork. I'm scheduled for 8-13 1 week to go. I've been on my presurgery diet since July 19th no weight loss and definetly tired of it but I'm being good I have not broken. I think I'm more scared of the 2 week post-op diet protein no carbs blended.

glad you found out before hand so you can be prepared just in case

Does Surgery Cost Extra If Hiatal Hernia Repaired?
utcaneuser replied to slojo67's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I happen to be a coder/biller and the truth is technically yes. Its an extra code that can be billed. If you have insurance, its important to know what your portion should be do you have a deductible, cosinsurance (80/20%), and what is your out of pocket max. *************example only****************you have a $1000 deductible, then coinsurance of 80/20 with a $3500 max out of pocket. Surgery cost say $15,000 $10000 for band and 5000 for the repair: insurance contract adjusts $6000 and pay $7200 your coinsurance =$1800+your deductible =$2800 with a $3500 out of pocket max you still have 700 before you are no longer responsible for any medical bills for you medical calendar year. Again this in no way is a real life estimate. This is just an example of how the breakdown works. If you are self pay get the estimates ahead of time. They may not be exact but unless there are complications they should be close and you should get a discount for self pay.
