    5 Days Post Op

I too am five days post op - I am so glad you mentioned the "deceiving"! I can't tell if my tummy hurts due to gas or is pissed because its hungry...obviously it is most likely the former. :-)
  2. I had single incision too - doctor recommended it for fewer chances of infection. I'm pleased with having one spot to worry about, LOL.
  3. Positive thoughts to you and your surgeon and caretakers!
  4. Hello all, As of 10:00 a.m. Wednesday I joined many of you on the loser's bench! I thought I would share some details of my experiences up to this point. First, your nurses and support staff are CRITICAL in making the process - you may want to take this into account when choosing a surgeon. I wrote "thank you" notes for the surgeon, the anethesiologist, and the nurses and gave them out before my surgery. I wanted them to know how much I was excited about my new start and that I was counting on them. The day of the surgery was the worst, but mostly because I was so "out of it". The pain was well controlled, and I even managed to get a walk in that day; the ice chips tasted very good. What sucked the most was getting out of bed to pee, lol. My hubby was fantastic, and I'm glad that I had a loved one to hear the instructions and directions. My brain was big time fuzzy. The second day I got to shower, did more walking, and ate Jello and Water. I rembembered to bring pull on dresses (thanks to this site!). I'm not getting enough fluids, but working my way up everyday. The hot weather has finally broken, so I'm getting in 3 walks a day. Today I took out my pump thingy with catheters. That made me naseaus so thank heaven hubby didn't mind helping. To look at me you might not know I had surgery on Wednesday - except I'm sleepy. Looking forward to Protein shakes and supersoft foods. :-) Thanks to all of your questions, answers, and encouragement!
  5. I had a massage yesterday. It was light and helped to relieve the stress and gas in my shoulders. :-) Also good for circulation I imagine.
  6. I'm walking around my block with my dog and MIL. It is sometimes a stroll more than an invigorating walk! But movement is movement at this point and it does help with the gas pain.
  7. I am tired of the liquid no-calorie fast, so I'm almost looking forward to the OR tomorrow. At least then I can have Protein and I probably won't be hungry anyway! Honestly, I am very nervous. I've never had this serious of a surgery before and I'm scared I won't wake up, or that I'll have a leak. Prayers are appreciated (for those who pray) and positive thoughts are always welcome! See you all on the loser's bench!
  8. Update Surgery done; no complications; comfortable at hospital and well cared for :-)
  9. My doctor has me on a 7 day pre-op diet. I know that's shorter than some... ...however, it is not just a liquid diet, it is a NO CALORIE diet. I haven't had anything (other than 10 calories in jello) since last Tuesday. It is so hard. I'm sticking with it, just so cranky and tired. My stomach literally hurts. I got glares at the movie theatre last night because my tummy was rumbling so loudly! My husband and I buy organic treats for our dog - and even they are appealing. Argh. Thanks for listening.
  10. Tea, Water, crystal light, diet coke, fat free broth, Jello

    No More Staring!

I hide behind the camera, too. I have taken all the tips I've learned over the years - but I can't hide those extra pounds. Looking forward to Wednesday for my surgery!
  12. I'm at 36. Started my 7 day liquid only almost no calorie diet as of midnight.
  13. Thank you for sharing your story. I wish you all the best in healing!
  14. Hello! I'm new here. I would like to thank you for sharing your stories and experiences - it has helped me ask the right questions, find a good doctor, and decide about what is right for me. I am an emotional eater. I'd like to start using some techniques now to help after the surgery. What has worked for you?

Anyone With United Health Please Help!

I have UHC and they were prompt and helpful - I'm getting my surgery on 8/15 and I saw my first bariatric surgeon in June. They also provided a packet of info about bariatric surgery that helped educate me. They are covering 100%.
  16. What great discussion! Everyone sharing their thoughts is very helpful, and I know I have somewhere to turn.
  17. I have had 4 stones - and there are 7 that remain in my kidneys. I am so sorry that you had to experience the pain. I have nothing I could compare it to. Blessings on your recovery. This too shall pass (lol). Couldn't resist...

    Pre-Op Diet?!

My surgery is scheduled for Aug 15. I have a 7 day liquid only diet - just Water and sugar free drinks/jello/etc. Pretty fierce. One of the other surgeons I consulted with had a 24 liquid only and no endoscopy. But, I liked the surgeon and staff better at the place I chose. :-)
  19. Ballroom dancing again. Not dreading the family picture moments. Hiking. Relaxing in child's pose.
  20. Thank you so much for sharing. Hearing about the kinds of things to expect can ease the fear of the unknown.
  21. Thank you all for your thoughts! A friend recommended "Eating Mindfully" by Dr. Susan Albers, and I've enjoyed that so far - good reminders about how eating is nurishment, and that patience is key to well-being.
