Are ER And Other Specialists Prepared To Handle Lapband Emergencies?
Maddysgram replied to NoMoBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Try not to freak out. OP even stated that she doesn't know what she died from. Could have been anything. You're more likely to die from obesity related diseases than LBS. Think on that, you're saving your life by taking control of it. Read more success stories!lol -
Welcome to the forum, I too have two daughters 11 yrs apart, but they are 38 & 27. Sounds like you're getting very close to a surgery time, Congrats! Stick around here for knowledge, support & inspiration . Ask any questions you might have and someone will be able to answer them. Post often. Happy Holidays!

Discomfort after stuck episode
Maddysgram replied to Wgbem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some ppl think that when they're stuck they can't breath, but that is not the case. Being stuck means whatever you're eating will not go threw where your band is, from small pouch to the rest of your stomach (your stoma). You ate too big a bite, didn't chew to mush or ate too fast. It teaches you a lesson on being mindful of what and how you eat. A stuck episode can irritate esophagus and thats why you're told to stick to liquids until irritation gone. If you don't throw it up, or it won't go down, the Dr can unfill you to move it along. You never want the stuck episode to keep you from getting liquids down. No matter what we need liquids for at all times. Hope this eases some of your fears. You won't die, just unpleasant. -
ROFLMAO! Keep the police out of it, if you can. Ms Moser

Cough after eating
Maddysgram replied to JerseyShoreDisneyDiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We maybe doing this b/c you are full, its a different full after being banded. You will no longer get the stuffed full feeling you're used to. Cough, sneeze, hiccup, sigh ,(me) pain in shoulder can all signal you are full. -
Are ER And Other Specialists Prepared To Handle Lapband Emergencies?
Maddysgram replied to NoMoBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Dr told me pre op which hospital's to go to if it became an emergency. I would have to avoid 2 hospital's minutes away and have 2 others 30 mins away. So yes, even my Dr knows not all ERs are prepared for LBS patients. -
Minimi one wise woman! I haven't had this problem yet, but glad Mini pointed this out so when I do I can recognize it for what it is. Take a deep breath and count to ten, go for a walk, soak in tub, read a good book and like Mini said"ride it out". (((((Hugs)))))

Day after christmas surgery date.
Maddysgram replied to pattyd87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm really sorry! I bet thinking you had all Christmas day and then bam, not. That wasn't nice, but just like Christmas represents new life with the birth of Jesus Christ, it will also mean new life for you too. Time to forgive yourself for years of not taking care of your body and start a new. How cool is that! Do any celebrating tomorrow, don't over do it and reflect your new life Christmas day. Yes, they do want your liver in good shape. Drink lots of Water Christmas. Most ppl do have a two wk liquid diet, so though this is disappointing, it is doable. Best wishes to your success! -
Down in the dumps
Maddysgram replied to lousianalady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh harsh, I like harsh. Just kidding, you're doing great, 40 lbs in 3 mths =13 lbs per month, right on target. Sometimes are body needs time to catch up. As far as eating larger portion size, you know the rules and what is right & wrong, no one needs to tell you. Just do it and I'm not talking about Nike. Hope I wasn't too harsh?! Happy Holiday's -
Discomfort after stuck episode
Maddysgram replied to Wgbem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you stuck with liquids for a while since getting stuck? If so and still unable to keep things down especially liquid, it's time to call Dr. You don't want to become dehydrated. Good luck -

Our administrator Alex has handled this subject quite a few times. He wrote "this is an open forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as it is within forum rules. If a statement is made you don't like ignore it and move on. If there is a poster you continually do not like you are given the option to BLOCK that person". Thank you Alex for working these options into your forum. You were thinking ahead. Everyone of us have different personalities, we come from different cultures, different stresses in our lives. So yes, you most definitely will get different responses. It's a fact of life. Please everyone take Alex's suggestions . Happy Holiday's to all!

Congratulations on being banded! The port is always the longest to heal. It is sticthed onto a muscle and even just bending over can make that muscle & port swell up & down. I'm 10wks out and still get some soreness in port area. To ease your mind you can still call Surgeons answering system & Dr on call can help you. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!

I had 3 out of 5 have a suture push through. Dr told me just wash with soap & water and dry real well. They did stay more red than the rest. If you think there's puss coming out you should give them a call. Most surgeons have someone on call & they can advice. Good luck!

chest congestion / phlegm post surgery - normal?
Maddysgram replied to phdizzle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You get a lot of congestion from the tube. I had a to keep blowing my nose for a week afterwards. If you have a spirometer be sure to use it. I did until all congestion was gone. If it gets worse or you develop chest pain with congestion call your Dr right away. There's a chance of gettting what they call surgical pneumonia. Hence the spirometer. -
Thoughts & prayers for both of you! Congratulations on choosing a healthier life!

I think pretty much all of us has failed many dieting attempts and wondered if this was going to be just another failed attempt. If we follow the rules we will succeed this time. When I was just banded I worried everyday if I messed something up. Drinking too much, not enough, too big a bite, chewing enough. I think it's normal. The band will let you know if you really mess up.
