Initial Meeting With Surgeon- His Therapist NOT in Network
Maddysgram replied to Kathy Pitcher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All insurances are different. I have Aetna and they are more than happy to pay for mental health issues. Even before I thought about LBS, Aetna was sending notices couple times a year, that if you had any problems at all they will find you someone. My husband does work for a Fortune 500 Company and maybe that makes the difference. -
Question on the day after
Maddysgram replied to New_girl_in_town's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every day you'll feel a little better, by one week you should feel pretty darn good. -
You asked for it.... Do you know making your stomach churn to digest that food can make the stitches tear? You tear your stitches and the band can slip out of place. Your Dr gave you a diet to follow for a reason, not to punish you. No, you probably don't have any restriction. Right now it is just another diet. I'm 3mths out and do not have restriction either, so I do know what its like. But I want health right now, more than food. I work through being hungry by keeping myself occupied with other things. Today I put up a glass tile back splash in my bathroom, didn't get hungry. Most likely you haven't hurt anything yet, but to succeed, you have to follow the rules. Everyone remember, she asked for it. Not being rude or unsupportive, just telling it like it is.

Not losing weight question - Have I Reached My Set Point ?
Maddysgram replied to marketingdude's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
BTW, that is what I'm doing and it seems to be working. I know the band living is to allow you to eat whatever, just less of it. But eating totally healthy is working for me now, so thats what I'm doing. Maybe after I hit green zone, I can add somethings back, but until then, no thank you. -
Not losing weight question - Have I Reached My Set Point ?
Maddysgram replied to marketingdude's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I read this thread and everyone's idea's were interesting, but no one offered any scientific data to back up the theory. In the past I have read things about the hypothalamus (brains thermastat) . What I read was by avoiding white sugar and white flour can reset the thermastat to increase your fat burning metabolism. You're encourage to eat whole grains and very, very little sugars. I believe this to be true and believe the healthcare professionals have jumped on this theory. So eating whole foods is the way to go. Any ways that's what I know and my opinion. -
My first fill went fine, one poke and 3cc. Second attempt 10 pokes, no go, went to xray and port was flipped completely over. Dr tried manually turning it back, but wouldn't budge. As long as it's just tipped, you should be fine. Even with this bump in the road, I'd do it again.

Initial Meeting With Surgeon- His Therapist NOT in Network
Maddysgram replied to Kathy Pitcher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I kid you not, I had to answer 100's of questions, but not all therapist do that. Mainly they make sure you know what you're getting yourself into with the LB and to make sure you have no problems that will work against the band working. They asked things like "do you drink alcohol or drugs to face the day", things like that. -
Question on the day after
Maddysgram replied to New_girl_in_town's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you gulped the whole oz down in one swallow, yes that would be a little painful. For 3 days after banding I could only do 1oz every 15mins sipping it. It does get better quickly. Congratulations fellow bandster! Be sure to follow all your Drs orders. -

Initial Meeting With Surgeon- His Therapist NOT in Network

The therapist at my surgeons office was not in my network either and I just picked one that was and they still worked with my surgeon and got me approved. Good Luck! -

At my Nut classes, they said men should get 1800 calories a day. Just a thought. -
Not losing weight question - Have I Reached My Set Point ?
Maddysgram replied to marketingdude's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Dude, I was just thinking of you last night and wondering how you were doing. I was thinking that your brother probably doesn't count calories b/c he is in the green zone, you are probably not there yet and it would probably be wise if you did count the calories for awhile. Remember proteins first, that's what keeps you satisfied longer. Glad you've seen the light and realized that ice cream and sliders aren't going to get you where you want to be. That's why it is important to count calories, if you have calories left over and can afford a little something, that's ok. You're def getting more exercise than me.lol If all else fails, see a nutritionist, but go with your food list so they can determine whats going on. Your fill will probably help a lot too. You'll get there. Check in more often, so we don't have to wonder about you. Best of Luck! -
So sorry to hear that. I hope staying on liquids helps. Keep us posted on whats going on. I'm only 3mths out and going in for a port revision, b/c of a flip. Really wasn't expecting that so soon. Hoping for the best for you!

How small is a small bite? And how many times do you chew it?
Maddysgram replied to hopeful_janna's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I started out using a baby spoon after banding until I got use to taking small bites. No matter what it is I'm eating I chew until it is liquified . Put your fork down between bites and wait one minute. The first week of being banded is hard to get liquid down, b/c of swelling. Just small sips 1oz per 15mins, but after the first week it will get easier and easier. I can now down 16oz of water in less then 30mins. -
New Here. Banded 01/11/13
Maddysgram replied to LeslieW's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, that was one of the things that help me. I drank a lot of Chai decaf tea and SF hot chocolate and I found that soothing. That's pretty good that you had Plication too and not taking any pain meds, good for you. I have a friend on here, CarolinaGirl, who had plication too and she is doing very well. She's on a lot during the day, so keep an eye out for her. -
New Here. Banded 01/11/13
Maddysgram replied to LeslieW's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to the forum Leslie and congratulations on your banding. Every day will get better and better. Being you're on day 3 you should be through the worst part. I remember feeling like I was hit by a bus those first few day. Once the swelling goes down, drinking will be easier. What is your post op diet consist of? I had 3 days clear fluid, 30 days full fluids, 1 wk mushies. Those were the longest days as far as eating went, but it is worth it. I wish you the best on your journey. Post often. -
I've been banded 3 mths , but no green zone yet. Soon, very soon.lol
