I am 50 and i have my appt. with surgeon 4/19. Am i too old?
Maddysgram replied to buckeyegirl4's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
56 and was banded in Oct. I already feel 10yrs younger and I'm just getting started. Anyways, 50 is the new 40,lol -
Of course you are, we all do. Everyone is so different with hiw they feel after surgery. Some come out with no big deal and others are "WTH did I do to myself" For me the first 48hrs were a little rough, nothing that pain meds didn't help and everyday after that got easier and easier. I was out working in my garden by the 5th day, but getting tired lasted a little longer. I don't work, plus I was 56yo so you have to take that into consideration. What I can say, its all worth it. I feel so much better. Best thing to do is follow your Drs instructions and get up and walk as much as possible the minute you come out of recovery. I've had a few surgeries and thats the best thing you can do for yourself. Sip Water and move. Best wishes on your journey to better health!

Happy Easter Sharon and family! Because He lives, we can face tomorrow!

Soft things like yogurt, bean, cottage cheese etc I use a measuring cup and sometimes eat out of said cup.lol Solid Protein I go by the deck of cards size, that we were taught in nutrition class. I do keep track of calories and protein. I hope when I've had enough practice I will just be able to eyeball it. Portions have always been my problem, but doing everything to relearn portion control. Go job on measuring your portions, keep it up!

Has anyone noticed the Pizza Hut ad on the right of your screen?

Well then, you had nothing to confess then. You ate like a normal person. Good job! -

I had the sx, but it is all about his diet - venting

You can not compare yourself against anyone else. We are all "individuals". Especially men are totally different from women and they will lose weight faster. Just stick to your LB instructions and don't worry about him. Log your calories, get in your protein and water and worry about you. Even though you had surgery together, it is still seperate individual journeys. -
I'd call your Dr and discuss this with them. There are many medications that could help you.

Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?
Maddysgram replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Definitly yes! Pretty much ditto what Lovethenewme stated. Easter last year praying for death to come because of the pain I was in. One year later, I feel so good. I have my life back. It is not an easy fix, but dedication and work, but well worth it. My sis had gastric bypass which takes just as much dedication and work and there is failure in that too, if you don't change your lifestyle. After losing her weight, she has now gained it back and became an alcoholic to boot. I am so excited about my future! I would do it again in a heart beat. I would also come back to LBT.com for my support too. -
So what your saying, is you're not going in for post-op visit? Most of us see our Surgeon 2 wks post op. Also most of us have had desolving stitches. Don't think I would let him, unless he is a Dr. IMHO

Be Careful What you Wish for...
Maddysgram replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
For newbies, you are absolutely correct. It's been 4wks since my last fill and after no restriction for months, I got kinda lazy. Time to play by the rules! -

LOL, Just today was trying to figure out how many calories of 240 were left? Bad part was it was bumper to bumper traffic, couldn't get over to pull off and knew everyone parked around me could see what was going on. There's no way to PB discreetly in a traffic jam.lol -

I hear ya brother. After my last fill, everything has changed. Gotta eat slower, smaller and more aware. I was just telling some LB friends, I've learned eating in my car equals hurling in my car. Have a stash of papertowels and plastic bags. -

Hoping to be a lap band candidate soon
Maddysgram replied to Noki124's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, every ins. is different. In my case 6mths, which I was disappointed. In the long run, it was the best thing that ever happened. It gave me 6mths to prepare, by educating myself on what banding was all about. I thank my lucky stars for finding LBT.com, where I receive the best education available. -
EKKKKK I am so EXCITED

What Does "Morbid Obesity" Really Mean?
Maddysgram replied to Jean McMillan's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I know 40yrs ago I was of normal weight, my mil thought I should lose 5lbs,so I went on a diet and became overweight, another diet, then obese, another diet, severely obese, another diet, morbidly obese. I couldn't afford another diet. I needed a cure. LBS is not a cure, but it is a great tool to help me learn to treat my life with more respect and care. So yes, I was that snowball, but now the sun is shining and I'm melting.lol Now I'm obese, working on overweight.lol -
What Does "Morbid Obesity" Really Mean?
Maddysgram replied to Jean McMillan's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I wish every Dr could have a copy of this and post it in their offices. It's a great eye opener! When I started my WLS I was morbidly obese. I knew that this surgery was either going to save me, or I was going to die early, never mind all the things I was missing out on. Thank you,Jean for your words of wisdom. I enjoy everything you write b/c of your humor, but I also enjoyed this article b/c its about saving lives. You rock! -
I did not have a pre-op diet either, but I do know my same Dr made some of his other patients do one. So with him , he changes from patient to patient. But like Missy says, follow your Drs guidelines. Whats good for one, is not always good for someone else.

Living with the band is like being in a marriage or relationship
Maddysgram commented on cheryl2586's blog entry in cheryl2586's Blog
Great blog, Cheryl! Totally true whether a relationship with someone or your band. My relationship with food pre banding was a controlling relationship. Glad I am in control now! Thanks for your words of wisdom! -
I was told by surgeon that any the size of an aspirin would be ok. I do take chewable vitamens and calcium. Don't know what to say about heavy feeling in stomach. I only get that if I take 2 pills cut in quarters b/c it takes a lot of Water.

After 6wks pre-op was able to take my pills whole, one at a time. But since having enough fills to get me close to green zone, I'm now having to cut them up in quarters. Good news, I no longer have to take b/p medicine.
