Had my surgery yesterday and iam in pain
Maddysgram replied to Melllima's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It won't last too long and the best thing you can do is get up and walk, walk, walk. Nothing works better. -
concerns about having surgery
Maddysgram replied to stept04's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think Missy & TMF summoned it all up nicely. It does take work, but it is doable. I have always been good losing weight, but terrible keeping it off. The first 3 mths are just like a diet. Most of us have no restriction until we have enough fills, but after that, it is almost impossible to overeat, unless you eat slider foods, chips, cookies, ice cream and such. I can truly say, since banding I have not had any cravings, and the longer I've been banded the easier its getting. It does work, but you have to want success bad enough that you follow the LB rules. -
There have been ppl on this board who have come out of surgery unbanded b/c they didn't shrink their liver. What a bummer that would be. Get cut open and sewn back up and no band.
-
Glad you're having good results with them. That is exactly how it should be. They are a part of your team and should be there. Thats how my bariatric surgeons office is. Everyone is there to make me a success and they will do everything in their power to help. The rest is up to me. Its sad when others report on not getting the support they need. Best to you on your journey to better health.

BTW- a lot of us experience headaches for a day or two and I think it is due to the anesthesia and other drugs we are given.

The minute I left recovery room, I started walking the halls. I've had abdominal surgery before and knew how bad gas could be. I can't stress enough how important walking is. Now you don't have to walk a marathon, but getting up every 2 hrs and taking a short stroll is good for you. Good luck

5 Days post op Bloat????
Maddysgram replied to Kimmipuff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gas= walk, walk & walk some more. Its probably the only thing that helps. Some take Gas X, but walking is the best medicine. -
Surgery date first, still waiting for approval
Maddysgram replied to Omfgmelly's topic in Insurance & Financing
I was approved 1wk to the day of my paperwork going in. If you don't get approval, the Drs the one who has to change their schedule. -
Huge prenatal vitamins stuck
Maddysgram replied to sandymax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You really irritated yourself. Must ppl have to go on liquids for a few days, until the swelling goes down. Since you are pregnant, you need to call your Dr and see if you need an unfill. Good luck & congratulations! -
Good Luck and congrats on banding!

Do any of you crush your pills?
Maddysgram replied to John Picone's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After first being banded, I could take them whole, but after my third fill I now have to cut them up. I can take pills whole if they are as small as a baby aspirin. Good thing, no longer on b/p medicine -
Caught in a lie... Well kind of
Maddysgram replied to Creekwood's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think 9 times out of 10 ppl do have hernia repair with LBS, so you just might have surgery and really it is none of her business why you are having surgery, you just are. Should have told her, it was personal and you'd rather not discuss it, end of story. That was one of my ah ha moments, when I learned I did not have to explain myself to anyone and much happier doing that. If I don't want to do something with someone, I just say no I can't, with no excuses. You're beating yourself up with what should I say. Just say nothing, its personal. I have a neighbor who knows everything going on in the neighborhood and if she doesn't she calls and ask.If my cars gone a few days,"where were you", if my car doesn't move for a few days " whats going on". lol I want to say, none of your darn business. I definitely didn't want her blabbing to everyone about my surgery. Since when did we have to explain ourselves to anyone? Not since mom & dad stopped paying for my care.lol -
All I can tolerate is liquids, soft and mushies
Maddysgram replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hope you feel better soon Donna. My daughter had that and was really sick for 1 1/2 wks and still sounded sick for 3wks. She too was on antibiotics. It was soup, popcicles, gatorade and lots of rest for her.Do the best you can . -
Big difference in 1wk, woohoo! Keep it up, you're doing great.

Finally going to new doctor
Maddysgram replied to Beachgirl11's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Like B52 says, never hurts to get a second opinion. Just had a thread yesterday about a Dr that didn't listen to his patient, after switching Drs found out she had a leak in her tubing. Go for it and good luck -
I was banded Oct15,2012 and had to have another surgery Jan 23 b/c of my port flipping. Surgery much easier then initial banding and no more problems. Dr told me it was very rare to have a port flip, that leaking tubes were more common. Keeping fingers crossed and prayers said.lol Best of luck to you

If prune juice and mirolax not doing it, you need to call your dr. You don't want to end up impacted.

Good bye bandsters, hello sleevers
Maddysgram replied to hoover123's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you for your story and I wish you all the best with your sleeve. You make a very good point here and its not just with bariatric surgeons but all Drs. Make them listen! I always say listen to your intuition, its hardly ever wrong and change Drs if you have to. My granddaughter has Cerebral Palsy and some Drs have argue with my daughter thinking they knew more than she did about her daughter. They're now history and granddaughter doing very well. Just like anything else, there is good and bad in everything. Best wishes with your sleeve. Keep us posted. -
6 month dr supervised diet
Maddysgram replied to melanndoll's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He's going to learn the hard way. I agree with Jim. The 6mths waiting was really good for me to prepare myself. All the classes and evaluation doesn't even begin to prepare you. 7mths on LBT.com and reading books is what really prepares me. -
Talk it over with your Dr for real peace of mind.

Feeling like a failure - starting over after 5 years
Maddysgram replied to katspaw's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I wish you all the best. Failure means you give up and starting over is continuing to succeed. I was told that more ppl succeed when attending a support group. This is the best support group, Welcome -
differences in doctors orders
Maddysgram replied to carley0303's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I read from the Lapband manufactures, my Dr goes by their recommendations. But I also think some do what they have seen work for their patients. I hope everyone ignore others Drs orders and stick with their Drs orders. After all, thats your team. -
Yes, and it scared me. All the talk of erosion and stuff. But it does go away. Being just 2wks, it could take another month for you. Try not to fret.
-
LOL, Totally opposite from you. Can't eat until between 12-1pm and then pretty much hungry after eating. Working hard on figuring if its head hunger or real hunger? Do I need a fill or just wait? My next Dr visit is May 28 and I hope he can Help me.
