Sorry about whats going on up there. I'm from Florida and every year we have our hurricane survival kits. Including important paper work in plastic bags. We always buy can goods, Beans you can eat cold, tuna, Peanut Butter. Also make sure we have propane for grill. After being without electricity for a week in the middle of August, we got a small a/c unit & generator. Always have full gas tanks and a couple 5 gal gas cans too. The way its been the last couple years I think the north should start having a hurricane plan before you need it. I wish you all the best!
