I only told close family members and my boyfriend before surgery. They were all amazingly supportive. After I started losing weight and it was noticeable to people, did I tell them I had surgery. I work in the medical field, so everyone has been supportive and I have only had one or two negative responses. Now everyone asks for a weight loss update and they are always complimenting me and congratulating me. I was scared how people would react prior to the surgery knowing I was going to have the surgery. Now I just don't care. I am down 100 lbs in 1 year and I feel amazing. My asthma and reflux is gone. I was also on my way to hypertension and diabetes. No amount of hurtful words someone has about the surgery can make me feel bad about the surgery now. Don't let anyone hurt your feelings. They have not been 100% in your shoes. They don't know what you are feeling and thinking. You deserve to get yourself healthier and feeling better. And if anyone is seriously critical about the surgery and can't give you the support you need, then they can be shown the door. Good luck.

You said she has done nothing wrong but then you state she has done bad things, has bad habits, and has taken you for granted. Sounds like she has done something wrong. I don't like that fact that when you broke the new to her that she comes back a few days later and says you are her true love. Sounds like a load of crap to me. Sounds like she doesn't want to loose her financial support. If you are not happy then you need to leave. She is a big girl and will have to put her big girl panties on. She survived without you before. This is a time that you need positivity in your life and you need to be happy. You are worth your happiness and deserve happiness. You need to take this time to grow and better yourself and if she isn't going to support and help you grow then she needs to leave. I have been in your situation and the stress is overwhelming and isn't healthy. I have a hard time believing she did nothing to deserve your feelings. Hopefully you can be honest with her and talk to her about the situation again. I'm sure your decision will become easier which ever way you decide. Good luck.

@shnyinside check out Southern Surgical Hospital in Slidell. Their website is www.whyweight.com They are on LindbergDr, it's the i10 service road. They have a group of doctors, like 6 of them, that all preform the surgery. Dr Moore did mine and she was fantastic. Their main office in in Mandeville in the Premier Building on the 190 service road near Lakeview hospital and they have a smaller office in Slidell near the surgical hospital. Everyone in the office was great and were accommodating. They do surgery at several hospitals in the area and I was able to choose and had it here in Slidell at southern surgical.

Partner finding it hard...
bittahoney replied to Olivereindeer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's great that your partner is concerned about your health and you, but you must do things for yourself. I am lucky that my bf has been supportive throughout my journey. He has been to all the appts and did his own research. Of course he was concerned about the possibility of death but this procedure is safe and the mortality rate is extremely low. He was happy that I was willing to take charge of my life and do something for me. He tells me he has plans for our retirement and I have to be there for them. Hopefully your partner will come around. You deserve to be the person you want to be. -
self payer concerned about complications
bittahoney replied to BKLYNgal87's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was self pay and my surgeon included "insurance" in cost of the surgery. If I had complications and had to be admitted it only cost an extra $200 at time of admission. I did not have to do extra test due to being self pay. I did need labs and they were able to code those where insurance would help with those. Your dr should be very familiar with the coding needs for the insurance company. Although I have not needed the insurance they included in the price of the surgery I an happy it is there. The insurance covers the first year after surgery. I was sleeved on 7/25/2012 and have had no complications. -
Help! Surgey question
bittahoney replied to PerezL84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Start walking as soon as you feel you are able. You might want to trying sitting up in bed with your feetl off the side to see if you can tolerate sitting up first. The nurses should be able to assist you in walking if you feel you are able to do so. -
Contrasts! I know that's an awesome feeling and I'm sure you look fabulous.

My bf has been so supportive every step of the way. He went to the info session and every dr appt since. I was sleeved 7 months ago and I am down 85#. He has adopted my way of eating and has dropped 30#. We exercise together and he was excitedly surprised when I said I wanted to start running. He is absolutely amazing and I am so lucky to have someone so supportive as he is.

Anyone out there an RN?
bittahoney replied to conshy416's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi y'all. I'm a paramedic from New Orleans. I went back to work after 4 weeks. I had to pass a lengthy lift test first which included flexibility, multiple lifts of a +250# stretcher, and I had to carry an EKG monitor and 50# gear bad up 3 fights of stairs. The first couple of shifts back were tough. Having the surgery makes a world of difference in my job. I have no regrets. This surgery was the best decision I have ever made in my life. -
Today NSV, the fact that my boobs once again stick out further than my stomach. Woohoo!

Any POST-op Sleevers with asthma?
bittahoney replied to TheLCSpencer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have asthma and had no problems with surgery. My doctor did give me breathing treatments for the first day after. I did feel phlegmy but that was just from being intubated. My surgery was almost 6 months ago and I haven't needed asthma meds since. I am starting to jog and I am thinking a treatment before jogging would probably benefit me. I am not having full out attacks but just the feeling that I am not expanding my lungs enough and not getting enough air. It does not interfere with jogging and only lasts 2-3 minutes. Good luck with surgery. -
I had the same need. I was told sugar free gum was ok.

Soon To Be Sleevers With Big Dogs
bittahoney replied to KatieOkieDokie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have two Great Danes and didn't have a problem. Danes love their humans and mine are just like your boxer. They did know that I wasn't feeling well and were very gentle with me. I would start now with training though. Even if you have to push him off the couch 100 times and tell him "off" or "no" he will eventually get it. Praise and give him a treat when he stays off the couch. My dogs are only allowed on the couch when they are invited. Fortunately my dogs don't jump, but with some of my other dogs usually a forceful push and a "down" or a "no" did the trick. This was not to hurt the dog, but to have them understand to I meant business. My dogs caught on pretty quick. Always be calm, firm, and consistent in your training. Don't give up. He will eventually get it. Good luck on your surgery. -
Sounds like you need new doctors. I was on depo for 10 years. I loved depo, but I believe that us where a lot of my weight gain came from. I asked my GYN several times for a better solution and he mentioned Mirena. I determined it was not for me and stayed in depo for 2 more years. I eventually got tired of him suggesting other forms or medications when I really wanted something permanent. He would not do surgery for sterilization. Although I was 30 and had no kids, I had also been married twice and could of had kids if I wanted kids. I understood that I wasn't motherly and would rather have Great Danes than children. I found another GYN. She was very understanding and listened to me and my reasons and what I wanted. She helped me find the method of birth control that worked for me and was willing to preform the Essure procedure. That and WLS have been the best decisions I have ever made. Having a doctor that will listen and help you makes all the difference.

Roadblocks With Indiana Medicaid
bittahoney replied to Ciara_Reese2's topic in Insurance & Financing
Bcbs is probably looking at the obesity and the surgery as a "pre-existing condition". Most insurances do not cover a pre-existing condition for a least a year. -
Hi all. I was sleeved 3 months ago. I live in Pearl River. Looking forward to meeting people with experience with their sleeve.

bittahoney replied to EllaJo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine done at Southern Surgical Hospital with Dr. Moore. The staff was amazing. There are several doctors in the practice and they work out of three hospital locations. I believe they are Slidell (where my surgery was), Metairie, and I think Gretna. I have no complaints with the process and it all went smoothly on their part. I was self pay so I didn't have to go through all the tests needed for insurance. They also specialize in laparoscopic surgery and were very knowledgeable. -
