    So Conflicted...

I know that for a very long time I thought that this was not what I would ever consider. There was a point for me when I realized I was not having success despite multiple tries to lose and I had to put my health first in the decision. Surgery is not the answer for everyone, but I can say completely that I feel like I was correct in choosing it. Maybe make a list of pros and cons? Early on I made a bunch of lists: Pros vs cons, the lists of complications vs what I could do to help prevent them, how much each part would cost. It really gave me a place to start out sitting down and really understanding what I was throwing around in my mind. When it comes down to it, you really have to trust your gut.

    Surgery In 8 Hours....

=D Wishing you the best of luck, I'll keep you in my thoughts/prayers!
  10. I think you'll be fine. You can only control weight loss so much. It sounds like you've been doing everything right, so I can't imagine they will turn you away with proof that you've been complying with their instructions.
  11. I'm not trying to be rude by any means (Because I know typing can come off completely diff than I'm actually trying to say it), but what are you looking for from this forum? Are you looking to be talked into/out of the plication? I would be happy to tell you whey I decided on the sleeve, and I'm sure many on here would be happy to give the reasons they chose sleeve, but I feel a little confused as to what you're looking for as in responses. I chose the sleeve vs plication because 1) The sleeve reduces ghrelin production 2) The amount of time that it has been done 3) The number of resources I could find with information about sleeve vs plication (There was much less informatino I could find on plication) and 4) I am looking for a permanent change, and the reason to have plication (For me) would be because I am afraid of revision. There is no going back, but that's both a plus and a minus for me, and the positives outweighed the minuses.
  12. No matter what surgery you have, there are going to be the risks of complications. Surgery in general is about weighing potential gain vs risk, and in non-elective surgery it's a little more black and white because we accept that the procedure has to be done. For me, the potential of this surgery changing my life and giving me a new opportunity to avoid/minimize disease processes, like diabetes, is worth it to me. I have exhausted the options I have on my own to lose weight and have not been successful. I realize that there are risks, but I have faith in my surgeon and myself that we will both do everything possible to minimize these risks. I think it's a very personal decision, and it's not one to be made lightly, by any means. It is important to educate yourself about both sides of the surgery, because for every bad outcome there are a number of good outcomes. When I start to feel anxious/panicked, I look through all the post-op posts and try and remind myself that I'm doing this for my health and my future.
  13. (((((HUGS))))) Hang in there! It sounds like things will be getting better =) Just gotta get through this rough part

    July Sleevers

Hey July sleevers, I just wanted to join in here =) Scheduled for Thursday July 26th Hope everyone is doing well!
  17. This made me laugh =D I have read a lot about the procedures, but I had never really thought about that aspect....it is kinda creeping me out too now!
  18. I haven't been sleeved yet, but I did consider RNY when I was making my decision. Ultimately the decision on the sleeve was for a few reasons. I felt like less change in my anatomy was a good thing. The chance of numerous vitamin deficiencies is decreased in comparison with RNY. The sleeve, when done on a patient who is motivated and willing to follow the post-op direction, can yield as much weight loss as RNY. The complication risk seemed lower to me. With RNY because there is a stoma created and a reattachment of intestines, it seemed like there was more possible to go wrong. I was worried for a while, as I could not find as much information on the sleeve, but the more I've searched, I have found that there is a ton of information available, as well as the numerous successful members on this website. Now that I'm getting close I'm certain that I made the right decision on the sleeve. That being said, some things are right for different folks, I hope that no matter what you decide it goes well =)

    Nsv!

That is so awesome! I'm glad you really got to go on the rides with him, it sounds like it really made a difference to him =)
  20. Wow, what a trip! It sounds like it's going to be amazing. 63 pounds is nothing to scoff at, you should be proud! Off the top of my head just some ideas that maybe will help: - browse through some old pictures to remind yourself how far you've come - write a list of all the things that you can do now that you couldn't before - write a journal of how you're feeling and see if maybe it is tying in at all to other things that are going on in your life - get in a good hard workout, endorphins always help pick up my mood when I'm down - ask a friend/close family member to help you identify positive changes you've made that they've noticed - make some you time to maybe get a mani/pedi before you go or do one of your favorite activities and just have the chance to appreciate yourself I hope that you feel better! You deserve to really enjoy this trip =)
  21. Yay!! Congrats! =D Keep up the good work

My Hubby Keeps Eating My Food!

I'm sorry this is a problem for you, I can imagine that it'd be frustrating to go to get food and have it be not there or almost gone. Maybe the best place would be to tell him how you feel about it? Maybe he doesn't even really realize he's doing except for the thoughts that it's convenient and tasty. Kind of like "Oh, I'm in a rush today, maybe I'll just grab one of these" and it became a habit. I suppose if that doesn't work, you could always try and keep it somewhere out of the way (Though that's difficult with anything that needs to be refrigerated) so that he will hopefully leave it alone. Or buy extra and cut down on the things you usually buy him for breakfast/snacks? That way there could be enough for both of you.
  24. The way my surgeon explained it, it sounded like dumping syndrome was due to the lack of a pyloric sphincter at the end of the stomach where it connects to the intestines. Because we have no change in our intestines, we have our pyloric sphincter intact, instead of the stoma that RNY patients have. Because of this stoma, their body cannot regulate how quickly the sugar passes through into the intestines. This large amount of sugar (anything over 2g) makes the pancreas prepare by pumping out a bunch of insulin, but since they are coming from 2 different places (the pancreas is attached by your stomach which is on a part of your intestines that is rerouted further down, your blood sugar drops from the large influx of insulin and you have symptoms of low blood sugar or dumping symptoms. Lucky for us, it's not likely with sleeve patients because we still have an intact sphincter that regulates how quickly things move into the intestines =)
  25. I am going to my pre-admission testing appointment on Tuesday. Due to insurance ending and having to move my surgery up to make sure it's covered, my process of getting the surgery has been a little shorter, so there will only be two days between pre-admission testing and my surgery. I've read through what other people from my bariatric clinic had done during PAT and it sounds like I will be having an EKG, Chest X-ray, Blood work, and Gallbladder ultrasound. I was just curious, has anyone had anything come up on these pre-admission tests that has set them back for their surgery? I'm super excited, but I'm trying to curb my enthusiasm a little because I know that I still have to get the green light from all these tests (And with good reason, I wouldn't want to head into surgery when I have an undiscovered health problem). I have not had any health problems and I'm fairly young (25) so my doctor has already told me that he doesn't anticipate any issues, but I'm just kind of curious how this went for others. I have already gotten the time off work, and I'm hoping that I get the clean bill of health to go ahead.
