  1. I was in for 2 nights, but it was considered a 1 day stay according to my insurance, I was admitted for less than 48 hours. I was ready to go home after the 1st night, definitely wanted my own bed. As proudgrammy said, it is truly individual. I've had 2 c-sections and a vertical hysterectomy, the sleeve surgery was a walk in the park for me!
  2. 1. Worst had to be getting the flu 3 weeks after surgery was a nightmare that I lived through. 2. Nothing really, it has changed everything. 3. Nothing, my doc was great! Read, read, read on this forum and you will be very informed! There is such a wealth of info from all of us sharing that if you do have an issue, it is likely to be covered somewhere on this forum. We are all here supporting you in your journey!

Any success stories for the 50's group?

I had two sets of blood work that were pre-diabetes, that was all it took to convince me to have the surgery. My highest weight in April 2012 was 265 and surgery was 11/20/12 and was an early birthday present for me. I turned 50 in June and currently weigh 170 in a size 10. This has been the best thing I have done for myself other than have my children!

    Why no straws?

My hospital gave me a straw right after surgery. I actually don't take in as much air with a straw as I do without. I can tolerate water much better with a straw. I am 9 months out and water is still an issue, especially first thing in the morning. I use a straw every day in my Tervis cup with no problems.

    Non thick shake protein?

My go to is the EAS Advantedge pre-made shakes, 17 grm protein, 110 cal and low carb. . I have tried soooo many but either hate the flavor or texture. I didn't even like Isopure fruity ones, I thought they were horrible! I finally decided to give up finding something else.

But I Do Wanna Be A Size 6

I am so excited to be be a size 12 pants and M shirt for the first time in my life! Hell yes, I am also the one who wants to be a size 6! I say celebrate what we have! This surgery enables us for the first time in our lives to have complete control of our weight. I originally wasn't going to tell anyone except family and close co-workers, but I would shout it from the rooftops now if I knew that it would help someone else! By the way, I turn 50 in 2 weeks and I only buy clothes that look fantastic on me.

what happens if you don't get enough protein in?

I am 6 mos out and still drink 1-2 protein shakes a day. My nut says this is okay as long as I am eating a variety of regular foods and not solely relying on shakes. There is no way I could eat 80 grams of protein. I don't really have a problem eating anything, just small amounts.
  10. I have been struggling to get to onderland for 4 weeks with a stall, yesterday morning it finally happened! I haven't been under 200 for 30 years - wow, I am still amazed with this sleeve! No hunger, no sugar cravings, just amazing! I want to shout about this surgery to anyone who is interested! I also just got into misses 14 pants for the first time that I ever remember. Last spring when I started the pre-op process I was wearing womens plus size 22. I will be posting pics in the next day or two - I finally want to post pics, LOL!

Looking for a book to read!

The Sullivan series by Bella Andre is great! She just finished the 7th book, I can't put them down when they come out!
  12. I am down 76 lbs from my high last April, yay!, 56 lbs since surgery November 12! I am finally under 190 for the first time in my life and 3 lbs from weighing less than my hubby for the first time in our history! I am a size 12 pants, size M tops, I don't ever remember wearing either of these sizes. LOL, I have also dropped 1 1/2 shoe sizes, I was a 9 1/2 - 10, now 8 - 8 1/2, I never thought about my feet losing weight! I am sad about my feet, because I am a sandalholic! I'm trying not to purchase too much yet because I have 40-50 lbs to go, depending on how I look and feel. I will post pics soon! This has been the best thing I have done for me! I do go through stalls, but usually I just change everything up by either eating a little more or doing a few more protein shakes. I do still use shakes to up my protein. My nut says I should have 80-100 grams of protein per day, I can get to 60, but above that is tough to do.

    Flu and dehydration

Hang in there, I had the flu 3 weeks after I was sleeved. My hubby got me a slurpee and lord that did the trick, I lived on them for about 3 days. I know I we weren't supposed to have this so early out, but it was survival mode at best. It does get better!
  14. Good luck and congratulations to a new you! I didn't tell my co-workers until after I had lost about 30 lbs, but I work in a school and there is always a celebration of some sort!
  15. I vote inches as well! I am down 6 pants sizes from surgery since November and am just thrilled! I just purchased new pants 2 weeks ago, and it was amazing to wear a size 14 for the first time since high school 30+ years ago! The hardest thing I am dealing with now is my head still sees my body as pre-surgery and I still find myself looking at clothes as if the weight is still there. It should be easy to forget and think about form fitting clothes, I am getting there, a day at a time.
  16. Wow, you are truly an inspiration on here! Thanks for sharing and we would definitely love to see future pics!
  17. I can relate, but it's not my hubby! My 9 year old son eats all my sugar free popsicles when he has Ben & Jerry's in the freezer. I feel like a terrible mother when I find the box empty in the freezer and gripe! Ice cream has never been a huge thing with me, but I love the orange, grape and cherry sugar free popsicles, I have one almost every night! They are the best 15 calories of my day!

    Having second thoughts!

You are welcome! This really helps me sometimes when my brain goes into ADD mode and won't budge from the merry-go-round in my head!

    A Brand New Me!

Congrats on starting your journey! Keep us posted with your progress, March 8 will be here before you know it!

    Having second thoughts!

We all went through this! I decided that the benefits of extending my life for my kids far outweighed the risks and I stopped dwelling on the negatives and what ifs! You chose to start the process because you really felt this was your only option, think of where you will be in a year if you have it and if you don't. Also, remember we could all be hit by a mack truck crossing the street and we don't think about that when we take a step off the curb. This is your body, not your families, when they see how your confidence and self-esteem blossom, they will tell you how sorry they were for trying to hold you back. If you (and not what others are telling you) really are having second thoughts, then start writing your thoughts down to try to work them out. I would almost bet you will choose to go through the surgery. We are all here for you whatever decision you make to help you through!
  22. That's what I keep hearing from everyone who uses it! We have always loved Astroglide, but since the sleeve, it's like I'm a sponge and need more and more.
  23. Yes at times even with lubricant. However, I am almost 50 and had a complete hysterectomy over 6 years ago, and quit hormones 8 months ago. I am thinking about asking for the vaginal estrogen cream, I have heard amazing things from women who use it. Several said they felt like they were 18 again!

1st week pre op diet success !

Congrats and hang in there! I was total liquid shakes for 2 weeks pre-op and 1 post-op, that was the hardest part. It is soo worth it and before you know it you will be post-op and permanently on the losers bench!!!
  25. Thanks! Every diet I tried pre-sleeve, getting to 200 was always my goal and I could never make it. I actually finally believe I will attain my ultimate goal of 135 and it is not a pipe dream! I love being able to come here where people truly understand what we are dealing with and supporting each other!
