    Eating out

We really didn't go out to restaurants much until I was back eating full foods. Even now, I usually get to pick the restaurant based on the menu. My early go to was french onion soup, just ask them to leave off the bread and cheese. Panera Bread's is great if you haven't had it!

    Crackers?

I am not sure about most on here, but I cannot tolerate carbs. When I have attempted them, they blow up my stomach and I feel terrible. This is a good thing for me since I was a carb addict! I can eat a few (1-4) of most any crunchy salty carb, but that is the limit.
  3. I am a few pounds away from losing 100 lbs and am loving it. I am also tired of hearing people say "you don't need to lose anymore"! I talked to my Dr. this week during my check up and she said that everyone is focused on where I was to where I am now. I look and feel great, but still have about 25-30 lbs to go. She said to think of it this way. What would people think if you put Katie Holmes head on your body, would they still say to stop. The answer is definitely NO, they would make very negative comments that she needs to lose weight. This really put it in perspective for me for the last journey to goal. Has anyone else experienced this with the last 25 lbs?

  5. I still drink at least one shake a day, if I didn't, I couldn't get in all my protein.

    Big Pants

I love this thread! Just wish I kept a pair for reference! They are all gone! I was in size 22, now size 10 is getting baggy! I do notice that the smaller I get I have to change pant sizes faster. Where before it took many pounds lost to change sizes, now 5 pounds will put me in a different size. Anyone else experienced this?

    Almost there!

Congrats for finishing the paperwork, that is a journey in itself! We are praying with you, keep us posted!

    Scale and Non-Scale Victories!

Congratulations on your success! I loved being able to shop in the misses department instead of the plus-size department. The clearance racks are my new best friend! They actually have clothes that I like, you only found the left overs on the plus-size clearance racks!
  9. Our family lets me pick the restaurant based on what the choices are for me. I look at what can be added to my hubbies meal like a shrimp skewer or what is on the appetizer list. I check out the menus online before we pick one to see what is best for me. We have a new Logan's Steakhouse where I live that has become one of our favorites. They have sirloin tips on the kids menu and grilled veggies for only $4.99, at that price, I don't feel like I am wasting the veggies that I leave on the plate. They also have a 6 oz filet mignon that is wonderful, it is a bit pricey around $16, but it melts in your mouth. One thing I have learned is that I pick better quality food to eat since the sleeve!
  10. I agree, I don't tolerate food as well when I am stressed.

    Pre op diet?

The pre-op diets are all different, I was only allowed full liquids for the 2 weeks before.
  12. We all go through the "what ifs" at one point or another since we have felt like failures with every diet we did before the sleeve! You will have days that you don't do exactly everything right as you adjust to your new life, but each step is the journey to the new you and learning to eat like a "normal weight" person. I absolutely believe this now. My new motto is "I eat to live, not live to eat"!
  13. Good luck, you are in our prayers! Let us know how it goes for you! Tomorrow you will be on the losers bench!
  14. I too had not thought of it that way and it made total sense to me as well! You are doing great, this is the hardest time for you so hang in there! I couldn't imagine being where I am now when I was 2 weeks out! This surgery has been the best thing I have done with the exception of having my kids!

    Question for Ladies over 50!

I lost a lot of hair after my hysterectomy 7 years ago and didn't think I would with this. I just had my hair cut and colored this week and there is a TON of new hair about 1" long coming in. Neither my stylist or myself had really noticed how much I had lost before this week.
  16. I had 2 c-sections and a vertical complete hysterectomy. Everyone's pain threshold is different. My hysterectomy was the worst thing I have ever had to date. I kept thinking the sleeve would be similar, but it wasn't at all. It was the easiest of all of the surgeries I have had.

How much weight will be lost?

I was told the same thing as you. I am 50 and had surgery 10 months ago and am very close to the 100 lb lost mark. The weight loss definitely slows, but mine has been slow and steady all along. When the scale doesn't move, I am still losing inches and can tell in my clothes! Don't let the statistics mess with your head, if you do what is required you will lose the weight!

    Going to orlando over christmas

You should be fine for any activity! Remember to keep protein shakes with you since meals out at that stage are a little difficult to navigate.
  19. Keep your chin up and think of all of the positive "side effects" of the sleeve. There are dangers in everything you do, this is about you and being the best you can be!
  20. I am 10 months out and can only tolerate about 1/2 slice of bread. If I plan on having subs with family, I will buy the flat sandwich rounds and cut them in half to use with the deli meat. Before the sleeve, I was a huge bread eater, not anymore.

    Tough to Swallow

That is pretty typical at this stage, but more so if you are short-waisted like I am. I found that I was "slumping" forward during the first couple of weeks due to the incisions and that was causing some of the discomfort. When I realized this and started sitting as upright as I could get it helped. Even now 10 months out, if I slump forward at the table, I notice a difference.

    Sleeved tomorrow!

Hang in there you are on the losers bench! These are the toughest weeks and will definitely get better! It will all seem like a blur before you know it!!!

    First day of liquid diet

Try EAS AdvantEdge, they are low carb high protein, 110 cal, 17 grams protein. They are the only ones I can drink. I'm over 10 months out and still drink 1-2 a day to get the protein in. I couldn't stand any you mix or the Isopure that everyone raves about. Everyone has different tastes, keep trying til you find one you like.
  24. I also only eat 3 meals a day plus 2 snacks. I'm so busy at work I usually don't snack and I have to really concentrate on drinking. Do what feels natural to you. I'm almost 10 months since surgery and I still haven't regained an appetite or get hungry, but I count that as a blessing!
