Anyone noticed that their tastes for certain things have changed??? I am 4 months post op...I used to love drinking water, now it is hard to choke it down without a bit of flavor, I have also tried a little peanut butter...yuck it has no peanut taste, all I can taste is the grease/fat in it.(not that it is a bad thing that I dont't like the taste anymore!) Also chicken tastes so plan and blah...maybe it is because I am losing the "thrill" feeling of food and am now eating for the nutrition. Not complaining, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I peeled a ripe banana, broke it into a few pieces, froze it then pureed it in my ninja blender today. I added 2 tbsp PB2 powder and 2 ounces of chobani nonfat vanilla greek yogurt. It had a creamy consistency and tasted good. You can also add any fruit to the banana, like strawberries, blueberries...

Overcoming The Enemy Of Recovery: Isolation.
Jenhort replied to DSwitcher's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
wow....I DO isolate myself, didnt realize I wasnt the only one....I need to think about this one! and yes tthis surgery was hard although now I am at a point where I do not feel so alone. When I was really struggling, I had the mindset that I was alone, because it was/is MY battle. Now that I have gotten over the big humps, I am not as isolated...you have given me some things to ponder! -
yah did ya see the diet coke one?? yikes then again...good discussions on there too!

Were you really sick for awhile too?? Our bodies are responding to alot of stress, and if you had a leak, that didn't help matters any. My nutritionist recommended the biotin vitamins but I had never seen any proof that they really worked( I am in the pharmaceutical field) I wonder if they work or is my body healing and getting better nutrition? My hair starting falling out about a month ago, I am also wondering when it will stop. All the more reason to fill up on protiens instead of any carbs! And I am taking the biotin just in case it does help!

Oh Diet Coke, How I've Missed Thee...
Jenhort replied to LT1002's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I miss my Diet Dr Pepper!! I stopped drinking it 2 weeks before surgery. I missed my morning coffee too! My surgeon says no caffiene or pop until 6 months post op. Well, I did try the pop at 3 months post op and it sure does NOT taste the same!! And now, when I drink a decaf coffee or a pop, my body is not used to the caffeine!! I pee like a race horse! -

4 Month Postop Anniversary And What This Surgery Has Taught Me + Recipes
Jenhort commented on Nurseypoo's blog entry in Nurseypoo's Blog
Yes, I have pondered those things!!! But without the surgery, I would normally have given up after a month or two...it was too easy to go back to old habits. This surgery has definately been hard work for me! I am at the four month mark and all of a sudden it seems so much easier than it was at first. I hope it continues but I know as the summer progresses into fall new situations will pop up...and the holidays will be so different too. But I have had 42 years of indulging for the holidays and I think that is plenty. Time for new traditions and habits to develope! And hopefully my new habits will rub off on my family and friends! Some of them already have! Congrats on your journey and keep it up! Isnt this exciting? -
Omg, I Can Cross My Legs Now!
Jenhort replied to Diane Cuva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
whoo hooo!!! Isnt it funny how the most simplest things in life can bring us such excitement??? These are things that most people dont ever think about or worry about....like being able to move around in a public restroom with ease....or sitting in the seats of a stadium!! or walking activities!!!! -
So I went camping this weekend with a huge group of friends. I had just a few worries about packing the right foods and being in a social situation for the whole weekend. It went ok though! I did have a few sugar free jello shots and 64 calorie beers thruout the weekend. As long as I don't make the alcohol intake a regular habit I think I will be ok! But come on, it's summer and I was among many great friends! I did notice that my energy level wasnt like it usually is and I attribute that to the carbs. For meals, I took along several pouches of tuna for lunches and had a hamburger patty each night from the grill. We had plenty of cut up fresh veggies and for breakfast, I brought boiled eggs. I didnt even feel left out about s'more time! I know that if I have something that is high in sugar, I will feel terrible afterwards, so it is easy to say no to those foods! I have learned to just plan ahead for situations like this and it goes fine. It is even true for my work week. If I make the effort to plan ahead things go so much smoother

I agree! For me, I have looked at this as a total life style change and I have had to work on changing many habits and attitudes toward food and nutrition. There are also some foods that I stay away from completely because they would be too much of a temptation for me although at this point, I don't have cravings or head hunger anymore. I just don't want to test the limits! I have noticed the more carbs I have during the day, the hungrier I tend to be, so I stay away from them. Since bananas have natural fiber in them also, I think that is why I dont feel that carb effect as much as I would with other carbs. Either way...it works for me!

This summer has been awesome! I have so much energy and I have been so active! I finally rode my bike (havent done that in over 20 years) and my doggies are getting walked every morning! Swimming in the pool and going to the beach! I have done so many activities this summer that have involved walking. It is almost like a dream. It is hard for me not to buy clothes "just because I can". I used to buy things only because they fit, never for the style. What a lifestyle change this has been and continues to be. I have so much more work to do, but that is okay because this is a journey. I have finally gotten over the head hunger and craving, I eat for the nutrition and for fuel. Such a relief, because the first few months were so hard! It was kind of a mourning peroid. It's gonna be okay!

Thanks! I am glad I found this website...I had so many questions and it helps to know that many are going through the same things and wondering the same things...(am I normal??) Good Luck to you all and thanks for the support!

yes bananas have carbs and fortunately, I dont eat this treat very often, maybe once every two weeks. I wanted something sweet like ice cream, but I can't handle the carbs in the low carb ice cream...makes me sick even ( I only had 1/2 the serving size too!) I tolerate this treat much better and dont feel the "downer" from carb intake.

I brown it with chopped up red, green and yellow bell peppers, a few fresh garlic cloves and chopped onions. I salt and pepper it too. Then I add about a half cup of brown rice and water and let it cook until the rice is done. yum... You can add as much rice as you want, but i cut it down so I would get more protien in the meal and not carbs.
