Thank you for sharing your story. I am glad that all went well for you. Welcome to the losers bench!!

    TIS TIS eating poorly!

You actually lose the most in the first 6 months, not the first three. You need to refocus yourself on why you got this surgery in the first place. I have eaten a basically low carb high protein diet and am 3.8 pounds from my goal weight. If you eat too much processed carbs, it is true you will crave more and eat more, some are slider foods. Stay away from any kind of cracker unless it is one made of only grain(ryvita). Get the unwanted food out of your house, tell husband, friends, co-workers that you don't eat/want certain foods. Don't buy these foods for your family; they don't need them either. Take control and put yourself first. On a side note at work on Valentine's Day we had a potluck dinner; I brought my own because I had no idea if there would be anything there for me to eat, glad that I did. You want to lose as much as you can in the first six months don't waste this time.
  5. I don't get it. You just had your sleeve surgery 5 weeks ago, presumably to help you lose weight. Why would you now want to throw all that out of the window and get pregnant? Did you pay for your surgery? Why don't you wait at least 6 months, lose some weight and then proceed?

    Band to sleeve in one?

I had my revision in one surgery. I had an amazingly skilled surgeon and have had no issues at all.
  7. You wont need protein powder. Just drink water, gatorade and broths and you will be fine.

How many carbs do you eat a day?

Yes and No I do count/watch the carbs that I eat: no pasta, bread, rice, white flour, processed foods/crackers. I only have crackers made from bran and pumpkin seeds and they are delicious. No ketosis here and I have lost weight quite quickly and have not had any worries.

    Tmi. Runny during preop?

You have probably gone from eating unhealthy to a much healthier eating plan. I wouldn't worry your body is going through major changes and will continue to after surgery.
  10. You have only been sleeved for three days. You should be on clear liquids at this point so you should not be worried of a "full" feeling yet. You need to be sipping your liquid all day long.

    Spaghetti Os

Don't eat it. Remember why you got the surgery. Don't give in to garbage food like that. You can do this, stay strong!!

OMG did I really used to eat that much?

We had a potluck dinner at work yesterday and I am so with you on this. I actually brought my own food as I didn't know if there was anything that I could eat there. Anyway people brought so much food and ate so much. It is like big forkfuls of food in their mouths and they shovel it in. I guess years ago I was like that too, I just don't remember. Do they even taste the food? Aren't we lucky to be in the position that we are in; eating smaller quantities, tasting our food, stopping when we are full, isn't life wonderful?

    Which Dr Garcia?

I too had Dr Fernando Garcia and couldn't be happier. He is an amazingly skilled surgeon, I had no gas pains, no pain, walked right after surgery. He has also performed over 4000 surgeries, talk about experienced!! Good Luck

Not losing after VSG any advice?

Weight loss is 80% food and 20% exercise. I would focus on what you are eating. Here are the questions: roughly how many calories do you eat? How many carbs grams in total a day? How much processed/packaged foods do you eat? Are you eating high protein and protein first? Do you eat pasta, bread and rice? My guess is that these areas are what you need to tweak to be successful. Go back to the original diet from your doctor, eat low carb also.

    Former (or current) band folks

Well nothing similar but wanted to say that after having my band for 5 years, with no complications, I had a revision this past September. I don't think that you can have the band in forever and that is why I had it removed. It was the best decision I could have made to be band free. IMO it doesn't sound to me like it is band related, your husband's issue. What did he eat? Did he over eat?

Things to do in Tijuana March 8-13

To drain or not to drain

The drain is there to remove the excess fluid/blood in your body cavity. It also serves a purpose when you do the leak test, drinking blue liquid; if it comes out in your drain, you are in trouble. I only had mine in for two days, no worries.

    So...Problems....

Dumping only happens with gastric bypass patients when they eat too much sugar and I think fat. You are just overeating, having stomach pains because of it and of course going to the rest room more to get rid of the food. I am 4 pounds from my goal and I find I do get lax in your eating as I get closer to goal. With the easter season here I have made a resolve to continue and only eat healthy so that I can reach my goal weight. Go back to basics, lower carb, no processed foods, veggies and eat protein first. You can do it!

    Eating and drinking together

If I drink before meals I can actually feel the liquid move through my stomach and out. So I do drink before meals, not necessarily right away, but as everyone has mentioned you won't be able to drink and eat anyway. If you do try the liquid will wash the food from your stomach making you less full sooner. Believe me you wont want to drink and eat at the same time. I haven't done this in over 6 years, you won't miss it.

    Vanity Sizes....

Well if you think the sizes have changed just go with it. If the size says 6 then you are a six, not a 10. Imbrace the size and love it!!!

    Never full! Help!

At three weeks your stomach is still in a major healing stage. The nerves are not back to working right and you can be doing your self harm by eating so much and of such a food. Your sleeve will work but you HAVE to make sure you follow your food plan and portion sizes.
  23. Wow I thought the chicken broth at the Marriot was the best ever! When you are in a spanish speaking country most will speak spanish, I found that all could get by to understand what I wanted. Congrats on your surgery, so sorry you were sick, best wishes!
  24. Sometimes a shake up to your diet routine gets the scale moving again. Does your ice tea have sugar in it? Congratulations on the 10 pounds, no worries more to come!
