Thanks for everyone's response regarding carbs. I too am a carb addict but the wrong kind; bad carbs! I don't plan on having any pasta, bread, rice or crackers but I am having beans, sweet potatoes, squashes( 1T at a time mind you) but so far it is working for my weight loss. I didn't have any last time around and maybe that's what sent me over the edge and I started to gain weight. Thanks again

Just wondering about the carbs. It seems that most are consuming very small amounts of carbs as in starchy veggies; squashes, peas, carrots, sweet potatoes and Beans. Is this common for most to maintain? I am hoping and trying this time around to incorporate these foods especially beans(for a Protein source) as they are very healthy and filling. Would anyone be so kind as to comment?

Please help me with some food ideas!
Threetimesacharm replied to RuxieGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You actually don't have to "boil" your zucchini. You can lightly sauté in a frypan and it cooks in like 2 minutes very soft and delicious. Try adding balsamic vinegar and a little stevia or how about a little pesto sauce and some soft fish with this, yum!! -
Purée cottage cheese?
Threetimesacharm replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have cottage cheese until day 17 and that was the start of my pureed. I follow my guidelines and puree all of the food I eat; cottage cheese, canned tuna/chicken/turkey, beans, veggies. There is a reason why we have stages to follow so why push it and not puree? I have the rest of my life to chew and at this point my stomach is still healing, I need to let it do so. -
3 days Post op, thinking about FOOD!
Threetimesacharm replied to Grace2115's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Wow for me on day three I was so focused on getting all my liquids in and feeling better that food was the furthest thing from my mind. You must be feeling great to being stir crazy. Go out for a walk if you feel you need to get out. Do something you enjoy to take your mind off food. -
Trouble with intaking protein
Threetimesacharm replied to meghanl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Follow your eating plan from your NUT. You probably won't be eating meat or chicken until 8 weeks, maybe more for chicken. -
More carbs for intense exercise
Threetimesacharm replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good carbs don't have to be grains or rice. You can have sweet potatoes, butternut squash, acorn squash, yams, pumpkin and beets. -
70-90g protein a day
Threetimesacharm replied to Miss Jessica's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How far out are you? A protein shake should have approximately 25 grams so two of these a day, Snacks roughly 6-10 grams; cottage cheese, yogurt, fish, meats. So your day could easily add to 70 grams and more -
20 months out and having major pain
Threetimesacharm replied to angelinnc32's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Everything is pulling? Do you have a large hanging stomach? This I presume could cause some pain. Ask your doctor -
Naturally Thin People ... omgosh!
Threetimesacharm replied to MrsKarenC2008's topic in Rants & Raves
I believe the original poster states hatred and prejudice while being fat, she didn't say that it is the worst thing in the world, I agree with what she said, obesity the world's only acceptable form of prejudice....................... You can't POSSIBLY be insinuating that there's nothing worse in the human experience than being fat?? I can name a few just off the top of my head: Losing a child Suffering from cancer Living in a war torn country I mean, let's get some perspective here.... -
3 months post-op. Just ate two slices of pizza.
Threetimesacharm replied to gbveteran4d's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if you are trying to test yourself to see how much you can eat of this or that(pizza) well keep at it as you probably will gain weight or at the least not lose any more. Pizza should be a once in a blue moon food. Sorry to burst your bubble but those who are successful at weight loss and maintaining it probably verrrry rarely eat foods that are bad food choices or as one poster stated make a cauliflower pizza or another healthy alternative. Now if you are game go see how much ice cream you can eat in one sitting; I'll bet it's ALOT!! -
Maybe I should not have surgery?
Threetimesacharm replied to Jangy03253's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
What kind of "family member" would say that she HATES you because she doesn't want to share your husband.................oh I know a psychotic one!!! I think it's time to rethink your relationship, move far away, or get on with your life by yourself. No one needs this kind of treatment in their life, it just sounds so insane!! As far as surgery goes your support can be your surgeon, NUT, this site and any friends that you may have brought on board. I don't have family support either and frankly am doing great with out it. -
Food Suggestions Needed Please
Threetimesacharm replied to SPettijo's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Keep in mind that the liquid portion of the soup will fill you up fast so you may not get in your protein requirement this way. If you can't eat solids yet don't push yourself stick with softer foods; cottage cheese, greek yogurt, canned tuna/salmon, pureed beans(chick peas have the lowest amount of protein by the way), soft fish, thin soups with protein powder(easy to get down). Skip ALL of the crackers, useless food right now. I also try to have a protein shake in the morning with at least 30 grams of protein and then I am half way there at least for the day. -

OCT 3 with DR Fernando Garcia
Threetimesacharm replied to kiwi201000's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I previously had a lapband to sleeve with Dr Garcia and he is a fantastic surgeon. Very skilled and has been doing this for a long time. You will have no worries, are you with readyforachange? -
Specific nutrients needed to sustain healthy life after surgery
Threetimesacharm replied to Dallas Powell's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
The sleeve is NOT a malabsorptive procedure. Only the gastric bypass and duodenal switch are. -
I pureed my scrambled egg in a blender and ate it very slowly. I also made pureed egg salad and it was good too.

Help! I am starving 3 weeks after by pass
Threetimesacharm replied to leesas's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
cottage cheese, canned meats, yogurt, beans(any kind). At three weeks I was still on full liquids. How long have you had your purees a few days? Also you really are not starving! Find something else to do besides thinking of eating, you need to get your head in the game!! Good Luck!! -
Very new to this and looking for advice
Threetimesacharm replied to JBBleyl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You might want to consider going with one of the Bariatric Pal surgeons n Mexico. I went with Dr Zalvalza and he is always available by PM. There also is included 2 years post op with a nutritionist and this is absolutely invaluable. No other coordinating company has this. I also can contact my coordinators anytime via phone or email. One of the reasons I went with BP is the aftercare; even though they are in Mexico they are really just a contact away(just like here). Oh and my doctor was amazing, did a fantastic job, I have healed well. Oh and I also have all the information I need; diet plan to follow, when to get labs done(what tests), all foods that are best to eat. -

Nervous about Sleeve to RNY revision
Threetimesacharm replied to SleeveandRNYchica's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had an excellent surgeon so that side everything went great. I was in the hospital 3 days with GB. I had more pain with this surgery than sleeve. I find it also took longer to recoup. At the 3 week mark I definitely feel better; I only had 2 weeks off of work wish I had 3 at least. From what I remember going to the next stage(purees)is more difficult now that with the sleeve. This is okay though as I am in no rush!! I think you will do fine, no worries! -
I had surgery Monday an need opinipns
Threetimesacharm replied to kayluc16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You probably still have some water weight from surgery so if you do don't be discouraged. I personally weigh myself everyday. In the beginning you lose weight fast so it is nice to see the scale moving. Going forward it will also keep you on track for what you are eating when you get closer to maintenance. -
Will I regain the weigth?
Threetimesacharm replied to Canadian lady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well yes you could regain weight; the surgery only helps you eat smaller portions it does not chose the food you eat. As someone who has had the sleeve and now the bypass I suggest you go with bypass, personally I believe it has better weight keeping off abilities than the sleeve. You shouldn't be hungry in fact I have a hard time consuming my calories as I really don't feel like it. With the sleeve I was never really hungry and I had it for 3 years. If you research how the surgeries are performed the bypass has rerouting that has a major effect on the stomach hunger hormone(I can't explain it would be better to read about it). Good luck in your decision.
