Worried It Wont Work
Need-a-Sleeve replied to missT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I shared your fear and am sure everyone has had the same thought at some point. What you don't know until you have the procedure is how liberating it is! There is a period of time (varies with the individual) where you have no hunger & don't care if you ever eat again. In the meantime, your weight is doing a free fall & you get so happy to do things you haven't been able to do in a long time that eating is a distant memory! Eventually you hit a stall and that is when you make your choice: power through it & use your new tool or choose purposely to regain. It is never easy but it sure is 10 times easier with this tool! You will do great! -
Struggling To Get Fluid In
Need-a-Sleeve replied to UTGal99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't consider myself a vet but can tell you I am 6 weeks out now and find it almost impossible to get in more than 40. If I wanted to get up several times a night and right now I consider my sleep more important, I could probably do it! -

Calcium Citrate Versus Calcium Carbonate For Post-Op Sleevers?
Need-a-Sleeve posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
Serious question & please don't answer 'my nut' or 'my doc' said so. We have all been told to switch from carbonate to citrate after our surgeries & that we can't assimilate carbonate as well as citrate. BUT the surgery I chose was not to disrupt my G.I. tract, so if carbonate was acceptable before, what makes it different now? I understand the need for sublingual B-12 as there is less stomach lining, but I just don't have a handle on why the citrate--not to mention I have a lot of the carbonate left from pre-sleeve, LOL! -

More Than 3 Bites....
Need-a-Sleeve replied to cmaloney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Know exactly what you mean. I am at 5 1/2 weeks & just returned from a business meeting in Florida. Had a hard time eating more than 3 tbsp or at most 2 oz. I am not struggling with the volume so much as the waste. My Dad was a depression-era kid & raised us to clean our plates. I tried ordering appetizers (like Ahi tuna) but felt bad for letting 2/3 of it go to waste. I am reminding myself that it is better wasted than waisted! -

Read her Mark 9:43 and tell her your stomach offended you. I told the brother that reminded me my body was the temple, he laughed and said I guess you are remodeling! Best wishes! -

What Percentage Of Your Excess Weight Did You Lose?
Need-a-Sleeve replied to READY TO LOSE IT's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Don't think you are doing it wrong, I think Livestrong has it wrong! Any weight above a normal BMI for a person is their excess weight, hence why it is called "excess" weight, LOL. What percentage that you lose of THAT is your percentage. -
Time Off From Work After Surgery
Need-a-Sleeve replied to EllaJo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have a desk job& took 2 weeks off but am probably much older than you. I also told everyone at work (as I don't care what people think); but even if I hadn't, they could all see the dramatic weight change so quick. The other thing is here I am at 5 weeks out & just now experiencing some debilitating incision pain from the nerve regenerating. People can't help but notice when I blanche & break out in a sweat & that is hard to cover. Best of luck & strongly advise you to not lift until cleared! -

Best Dr's For Sleeve
Need-a-Sleeve replied to lilfrenchtoast's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved August 28th by Dr. Nicholson and loved him. He has a wonderful bedside manner, cares about you as a person and a patient and doesn't push products! This is one of my pet peeves, when you go to a bariatric practice that makes you buy Vitamins, shakes, etc. from them. That tells me a lot about their focus (the bottom line$$). The main thing that I loved about his practice is the follow-up care with the support groups. Dr. Jay Ashmore was formerly with Cooper Clinic and he runs a weekly and monthly support groups that are free. He is incredible and helping people understand what got them to become obese in the first place, but more importantly, what you can do to stop and be successful with your sleeve is the best part of this. All 3 are skilled surgeons, but the proof is in the follow-up care to get you to your goal and then stay there for LIFE! Good luck! -
Has Anyone's Obesity Side Effects Stopped After Weight Loss?
Need-a-Sleeve replied to Malisima69's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have had asthma since I was 2 years old & it has not changed with the surgery. BUT what has changed is gone are the b/p, statin & GERD meds. Still need to be checked off the CPAP machine but expect that will be by end of the year. How great is that?! -
I had to change from my real name & RN because I had used it so much you could put it in Google & see everywhere I had posted. My second choice was done pre-op-- maybe I should change it to Got-A-Sleeve!

I am drinking Nectar Roadside Lemonade right now with water. It is actually good!

Genie bras are the way to go, I have found them at Walgreen's as well. Mine does rest on my incision, but actually helps because it kind of holds pressure on it & feels good! -
What Percentage Of Your Excess Weight Did You Lose?
Need-a-Sleeve replied to READY TO LOSE IT's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You take what your "normal" BMI / weight should be ( for me @ 5'2" it is 110-135 depending on which table you choose) & subtract that from what you weighed pre-op. So for me, I weighed 220 pre-op minus 120=100 pounds of excess weight. I was told I could expect to lose 56-60 pounds & I hope they are wrong. So far I have lost 26 pounds at 4 weeks which is 26%. -

Roll Call Nurses Being Sleeved ...........
Need-a-Sleeve replied to TinkerToyz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome Alabama. I am also a 18+ year OR nurse. I took 2 weeks off because I have a desk job. I definitely could have used the third week off but I am near 60 & waaaay out of shape so I didn't bounce back like I thought. Are you going to have surgery at a different hospital? You don't have to tell but you are right--people will talk. I personally told everyone & only got a couple of negative remarks. Most everyone was supportive & the ones that weren't, I just told them I didn't ask their permission or for their comments. Haven't heard from them since which is great! -
Sorry to hear of this rough start but want to put in a word of support for the nurses. You were more than likely treated by a phlebotomist. That is someone that usually only has a high school degree & a few weeks training on how to "stick" people. Most (not all) nurses are caring & sensitive to their patients..I hope you have those kind during the rest of your journey!
