How Are You Preparing?
scaredoftheunknown replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yickes! I feel so behind. My date is September 13th. and I haven't even bought extra Vitamins. I almost want to say that I was in disbelieve that I was going to have the surgery. But it's almost here and I can't seem where to start. I know I have to clean house before the surgery. I will go shopping for my stuff as well as for my 17yr old son and my husband. I will .... ugh! don't know what else. Does anyone know how long we don't drive? Thanks for sharing your ideas. I will make a list and I will update if I come up with any other things I need to prepare. I know that a when I had my hysterectomy I thought I was going to be able to do everything myself and oh boy was I wrong. That is why I kind of want to have a heads up on this surgery.. Thanks. -

Dr. Oz On Tv Right Now Promoting Gastric Bipass Surgery
scaredoftheunknown replied to NDN_RN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did like the episode. I also think that they do not talk about the sleeve so much because it hasn't been around as long as the bypass. Even my Dr. said they only have information that goes back 3 years. And a person who has diabetes and is over 100 lbs. overweight will have more success at getting rid of diabetes with a bypass. -

I like Dr. Oz when I'm at the gym and there is nothing else to watch. I will be watching the show at 4:00 p.m that's when it will air here in CA. It might be an older show but I think it will be interesting to hear what they have to say. -

Any Bay Area California Sleevers?
scaredoftheunknown replied to Cholula's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks CNTWT2BMINIME. Yes I teach cake decorating so I could just leave my students hanging. I would have stressed out so much. But this way I can have them finish out the class and start a new one then give them 1 to 2 weeks off. Dr. said that since I work 2 hours and I could sit I might be able to go back after 1 week. But I'm not going to push it. I wanna take my time healing the right way. -

Just A Comment About Any Surgeons Office
scaredoftheunknown replied to vdunn87's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'd do the same. Making sure the Dr. finds out what the staff is doing. He might not know that the office is harassing patients because "they" made a mistake. Good luck. Don't let them get to you. You have done your research and I you will do good. -
What Life Is Like 4 Years After Sleeve Surgery
scaredoftheunknown replied to Suzannesh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you for taking the time to share your success story. Plus all the tips are great. I can't wait to have a life free of diabetes and be able to enjoy my life to the fullest once I start my own journey. -
I have my consultation with my surgeon tomorrow 8/16. This will be my second visit with him. On the first visit a month ago he asked that I had an EKG, start on my CPAP machine and lose 10 lbs. Well I had the EKG done and it came back normal, I started the CPAP trail and did well even if I hate the machine but I am still waiting to have mine delivered, and the 10 lbs. ugh!!! on my scale I have dropped the 11 lbs. but then I think my scale is like 4 lbs. off from the dr.'s office scale. I still have today and tomorrow to workout and maybe drop another 2 lbs. Should I just reschedule my appointment, or just go and see what happens? I am so nervous. I have been trying all month to lose the 10 lbs. In regards to the cpap machine that is out of my control as the medical store has yet to ship it. Thanks.

Saw the surgeon today and I got my date. September 13th. don't have the time yet. He had the 27th of August open and I was so tempted to having it done on that day but work wise I think the 13th will work better.

Should I Reschedule?
scaredoftheunknown replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You guys were right, the body does amazing things. I went to see the surgeon today and I dropped the 10 lbs. I needed to drop. He went over all my medical history and we went ahead and set up the date. I will have my surgery on Sept. 13th. Yay!! He had an opening for the 27th. but it was to soon for me because of work. -

I find it weird that two of my friends who have had the procedure done are not being supportive. One of them had the sleeve and is doing very good. When I asked her for her input on how she really felt after the surgery she replied that I should do my research on-line.... Wow! I was blown away as I really thought she would share her experience. The other friend had the RNY and I guess is having a lot of food issues. Like crying because she can't have her favorite foods.. when I told her I was thinking of doing it to help put my diabetes in remission she just about flipped and said that I was crazy for even thinking about having it because I have 60 lbs to lose and not the 200+ she had to lose. THen she goes on about how hard it's been for her and blah, blah, blah.. but then she ends with but I would do it all over again... What the heck is that all about? I have since done my own research, followed my gut feeling, and have left everything up to God. I have met with my surgeon on the 16th. I'll be doing more testing and see the dr. again on the 17th. It just blows my mind how people who have had the surgery react when a friend is planning on doing it. Have you been thru it? How did you handle it? THanks for your input...

How Do You Deal With.....
scaredoftheunknown replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are right if I didn't have diabetes the medication for diabetes makes me very sick, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea I wouldn't do it. But I do have all the above and that is why I was approved for the surgery. I don't think I would do it if I didn't have the comorbitities. -

OMG!! I haven't even spoken to the so called friend who was sleeved a year ago. And the other friend who had the RNY didn't acknowledge a text I sent her so I will no longer be sharing where I am at in the process nor will I share when I have the surgery. I did see her the other day and she looks great. She on the other hand kept telling DH that I was crazy that she lost 120+ lbs. in 7 months and where the heck was I going to lose the all that weight. That I was going to look anorexic and blah, blah, blah..... This time it didn't bother me. I appreciate all of your support. I know I can always count on you guys for true support. THANKS!!! -
Any Bay Area California Sleevers?

Can't imagine how stressful losing the 20 lbs. could be. If 10 is hard. What I meant was that I had the cpap machine that they lend out for a week at Kaiser. I went back and they download the chip to see how I did during the trail period. It came back that I did really good. Then they ordered one for me and they said it would take 10 days before I got it in the mail. I got a call yesterday (10 days after initial appointment with sleep dr.) that they would ship it and I should get it sometime next week. I am hoping that they see that I was compliant and they schedule my surgery. I really hope I don't have to wait another 2 months. But I know Dr. Le is very strict. At least what I've read. Good luck with your surgery. -

There is a pre-op surgery class? I see Dr. Le tomorrow. I am a little nervous, this will be my second visit with him. The first visit he sent me to get an EKG and start on the CPAP machine and lose 10 lbs. I got the EKG done, started the CPAP machine but I haven't gotten my own machine I wonder if that will set me back, then in my bathroom scale I have lost 11 lbs. but I think it's off like 4 lbs from the dr.'s scale. I still have today and tomorrow to work out and maybe lose another 2lbs. When is your surgery date? -

How Likely Am I To Get Approved By Kaiser?
scaredoftheunknown replied to ISleevedIt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I went to the program overview and they weigh me they told me I didn't qualify because I wasn't 100 lbs. overweight. I do however have a BMI of 36.5 and I have comorbitities. Then she asked why the Dr. had sent the referral. When I told her my comorbitities she said that anyone with the comorbitites qualifies. I was still unsure and I called the membership department to ask if I would qualify and they said yes. Good luck -
