Guys I highly recommend the couch to 5k program! It's great for anyone to get into the habit or running. It starts slow and you go at your own pace. I got such a great feeling of accomplishment for each little milestone. That was so helpful at times when the scale wasn't moving. I just ran a 5k on St Patricks Day, it was actually EASY for me, I never imagined I'd be saying that!

Had surgery july 30th 2012
Frza replied to rmarcella1971's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had surgery 8/31. Have lost about 55 lbs. only lost 6 since the new year. Still about 25 lbs from goal. The scale isn't moving much these days but I can fit into as size 10 (started at 235 lbs sz 18/20) so I'm not too depressed about the scale. -
I did my 5k and it was a pier of cake! I signed up with a friend who is trying to get back in shape and just started running. We stuck together throughout the race and this caused me to have a much slower time that I could have. She needed to stop several time and I just ran in place and cheered her along. I was a little disappointed that I didn't eat to see an accurate time for myself but she was so thankful for my support that I got over it pretty fast. Even at my reduced pace I came in #6,120 out if 15,000 runners. I'm looking at Cinco de Mayo for my next race

I Want To See Before & After Pics!
Frza replied to Christina760's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hello there!! Looking REALLY good, well done! -
I haven't lost much weight since the new year but I have gone down from a size 14 to as 10/12. It's frustrating that the scale isn't moving but as long as I look and feel good I'm not complaining too much!

Help building a WARNING - Worst Slider Foods List
Frza replied to canuckpaisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fro yo, which I love. I can eat so much of it that I end up not feeling good from all the sugar (sweaty, increased heart rate, shaky). I also eat way more trail mix than I should. I thought it would fill me up but I can eat a few handfuls if it with no feeling of restriction. -
Just checking in here- only a few more weeks until my race. I have only been running once a week due to pain in my hip. I do 4 miles minimum and a leisurely pace. The race is a 5k and my goal was to be able to run the entire thing, I know I can easily do that. Such a big change form even. A few weeks ago! I hope everyone is well and on track for their St Pat's goals!

First Day of Puree foods...I feel guilty
Frza replied to Butterflyjdjl's topic in Food and Nutrition
Don't feel guilty! That was a perfectly reasonable menu. -
I love this, Cheri you are an inspiration! I am 5.5 months out and have *only* lost 53 lbs. I was stalled for the entire month of Jan but seem to be making steady progress again. I feel pretty pleased with myself but then I see other people losing 53 lbs in their first 3 months! I'm glad to know there is hope for me and that its possible for me to lose ALL of my excess weight. The surgeons say 60-80% is realistic, but I want to beat the odds and lose it all. Just because it hasn't already happened does not mean it won't happen. The saying 'comparison is the thief of contentment' is so true!

I like to eat fat free Greek yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, string cheese, beef Jerky, refried Beans with cheese, shrimp cocktail, tilapia, turkey meatballs, lunch meat. Is that too many choices

You're doing great! If you're feeling a little out of control just go back to basics: protein first, plenty of water, no eating while drinking and track everything! If you're not active now would be a great time to start. If you are active try to change it up a bit! Don't stress! I know stalls can be frustrating, but you just have to be patient.

Protein bar and travel advice
Frza replied to newat52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the Atkins bars. Low carb, high protein and very filling. The only issue for me is they taste like treats, that makes me want more treats. I'm with you, totally prefer shakes. Do you have a blender bottle? I take mine with me when I travel. It fits in my purse so I can just add water and shake up a meal wherever I am! -
Coconut oil! I slather that stuff all over my body, face & hair. It goes on a bit greasy at first my skin absorbs the oil pretty quickly. I was really suffering: dry flakey skin on my face and dandruff on my scalp. The coco oil has really helped. I also started taking fish oil & flax oil everyday.

My local Vitamin Shoppe now sells a PB2 like product. Different brand but essentially the same product.

not dropping pounds like crazy...but dropping pants sizes!

I've lost 50 since August 31st. I'm not complaining at all- I'm happy that I'm still losing, even though its sloooow. -
Craving fruits and veggies... Juicing anyone?
Frza replied to skinnygirlscomingout's topic in Food and Nutrition
I have veggie juice every other day. Usually spinach, cucumber, carrot and either lemon or apple. I add a scoop of unflavored protein powder and some chia seeds. It's a filling breakfast and makes me feel great but it's too high in carbs to do everyday. The more fruit you use the higher in cals / carbs but f you're not used to the taste of veg juice you may want to start with more fruit. -
Thank you! I will apply your relaxed approach on my run tomorrow. I will also try increasing speed in small increments as you suggested. You're doing great and should be so proud. Aren't our bodies amazing in their ability to change and adapt?
