Thanks, Carolyn, Vera, Audrey and Shelia, It is so comforting having all of you there to cheer me on!! 3 days post-op and feeling more energy today. Had a yougart smoothie for breakfast---made the tummy stop rumbling. A question for all you experienced bandsters: When will I know the difference of noise rumbling or hunger rumbling? So far, I really can't tell.

HI Everyone!! Thanks for thinking of me. I am home and on the mend. Today I went outside (Yahoo!! It is Michigan here----close to the 60's and I saw the sun!!) for a walk. The surgery went as expected. I can't tell you how comforting it was having read this site for the past few months and knowing what to expect. I have not had severe gas pains---thank God!---but have had to run to the bathroom for liquid bm----yuck!! However, had read about both of these on this site and was prepared (as prepared as a person can be) Troy Beaumont was awsome---staff was right there whenever I needed another cup of crushed ice. My mouth was so dry and my mom---bless her----just kept having a conversation with me and my tongue felt like it was a big cotton ball. Anyway, I am feeling better every hour. The liquid diet is not so bad. I had cream of chicken soup for lunch and part of an Arby's jamoca shake for dinner. The nutritionist said that during the liquid phase, this would be okay. So far, I only miss my morning java fix---looking forward to getting that back. Anyway, thanks for all the support and I am so happy to be in bandland!! Greta

Support Group for Michigan Bandsters and Bandsters to Be
gretat posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just an FYI---- This Tuesday, April 6, 2004, from 7p.m. to 8p.m. there will be a Bandster Support group at Troy Community Center, Troy Michigan. If you are interested, you can pre-register through Dr. Debbie Greening #(248)203-1770 x138 or Patrizia Jesue, (248)320-1469. There is a cost of $25.00 per person. Hope to see you there!! -
Hi Kathy, Thank you for your words of wisdom. Bummer on the cold, though. I am a teacher and short of wearing a hospital mask, have been doing everything I can to stay away from little germs. I do have my protein drinks, sugarfree jello, crystal light, liquid tylenol---this weekend I am going to get some creamy soups and some chicken boullin. I don't know if that will be enough, but I have my parents to help me if I need anything else. I can't wait to be two weeks out---I am feeling exactly what you said, excited and scared. Take care!

Wecome Melissa, This is an awsome place to visit----I have found so much information that I would have had no clue without the sharing of everyone. My surgery is this Monday. Keep in touch and we can share experiences!

Revival Soy is a great tasting---high Protein meal supplement. (available in sugar free) The protein comes from soy. I have tasted almost all of thier products. I have found the following: In the drinks, the cappicino (sugar-free) is the best flavor. Overall the powder does not shake well, but if you use the hand blender, then it is better. The bars: the chocolate raspberry fizz bar is AWSOME!! Great chocolate flavor, crispy and sugar free (doesn't taste it!) The soy chips are flavorful, and taste a bit like corn nuts. They are about 110 calories per bag and for those that like crunchy, salty things---they are very good. Check it out and if you e-mail me and I recommend you to them, we both get a free sample of products. btw---price is so-so. You have to purchase in bulk.

What an inspiration you are! I like your mind-set. That this is a pleasant way to lose weight----I'm days away from my surgery and having thoughts about doing the right thing. Thank you for sharing your experience---I'm feeling better having read it!! Greta

Hi Dr. Deol's Girls!! I am now less than 2 weeks to the DAY! I am on the pre-op diet that you too will be required to do---basically the adkins. The appointments seem to be endless, but as I thought about it, it makes me realize how professional and preventative Dr. Deol is being. She's just making sure that we are going to be okay and that there aren't any surprises during surgery that would put our lives at risk. (And thank goodness for BCBS!!) I hope to see you both on Tuesday at the support group (7-8 pm at Troy Community Center). We are so lucky to have this board and to be with the same Dr., having our surgeries close to the same time!!
-
Hi Michelle, I have not heard of it either. How did your appointment go on Monday? Greta
-
Hi Debra, I am so glad for you!! I think that I have the April 12th date that you wanted:( However, I wanted the 5th, and that wasn't to be. I haven't got my pre-surgery "diet", yet. I meet with the nutritionist on Saturday. Are you going to the support group meeting for Dr. Deol's patients on April 6th?? I am looking forward to meeting and talking to people that have already had the surgery---face to face:) Keep in touch and congrats!! Greta

AWSOME, Alexandra Your kind words and insightful answers are so very helpful---now it is your turn to get a "pat" on the back. Way to Go!! Newbie, Greta:D
-
Wow!! Great job. I am impressed that you lost 5 pounds on your cruise!! Having been on a cruise last year and keeping in mind all the food offered around the clock---you did awsome!! Greta
-
Hi Debra, Sounds like you and I will have close dates for surgery. Are you joining the support group that will meet at the Troy community Center? I think that the more we support each other the more successful we'll be!!

I have finally jumped through the last (omgoodness, I hope!) hoop and have been given my surgery date. I will be at Troy Beaumont with Dr. Deol. Thank you for all the postings here---I think I have read all of them at least twice---trying to get a feel for what it will be like in bandland. I am scared that like everything else, this too will not keep the weight off. I guess I will just have to face that nasty demon----fear---as I go through this process. Thank you and wish me luck!!
-
Thanks, Vera Knowledge is power and since all of you that are banded have the knowledge, you are a powerful inspiration to those of us considering having this done!! Again, thanks!
-
Hi Bailey, I just talked to Rebecca today and have my surgery date---April 12th. I know that everything will fall into place for you, too. Let me know how it went with Dr. Deol and what appointments you need before you can schedule your surgery. Just think, you and I may well be banded by summer!! Take care! Greta

Dear Maggie, Great job, so far! How was your trip to Mexico? How do you feel right now? I have not been banded, yet. I am in the process. Good luck and keep posting about your experience! Greta

HI Everyone, I have been reading with avid interest all the postings in the different forums---mentally preparing myself for the process  Everyone is so supportive. I am going to Dr. Deol in Troy. If anyone has anything to share about her and their experiences, I would be greatful. Thanks
