  1. This is going to be my canned response. So poetic and poignant.
  2. Oh the irony. And another good example of how diets don't work (she had the cake anyway). A few days after my surgery I was craving macaroni and cheese, and I complained to a friend about it and he asked, "Can't you chew it and just not swallow?" The look I gave him must have been so withering that he immediately changed the subject!
  3. Right?!? I have a couple friends who act like it's a tragic handicap that I don't drink. It's such a part of their lives that the idea of not drinking just doesn't compute. Maybe I need to find new friends, lol!
  4. You're far more patient than I am!
  5. You're absolutely right. I'm not going to let them deter me in any way, and I am committed to this whole process of eating more healthfully. And I am happy and comfortable with my decision--it just throws me off when they ask these questions because I never expect them. I'm going to have to come up with some polite canned response to deflect the situation.
  6. I have sleep apnea, and my sleep doctor told me that if I got my weight under 165 I wouldn't need the CPAP machine to sleep. So that's my goal weight. I've been under 165 as an adult before and I know this is true. I'm not sure why this is the magic number, but it might be from a calculation of my height and build. My sleeve doctor asked me what my goal weight was, and I told him 165. He didn't argue, so I assumed that was a good number.

    Lactose Intolerance

I've been lactose intolerant since I was a teenager and I've never felt queasy or any kind of indigestion from it. But yes, I've cleared entire subway cars with the gaseous results.
  8. I can't believe I'm actually misty-eyed at this! This is the happiest thing I think I've ever seen! I'm so happy for you. What a feeling that must be.

6 Weeks Post Op, Drinking Fizz?

My surgeon and NUT told me no more soda ever. The same goes for caffeine. Luckily for me, I never liked either. I don't care how many Olympic athletes they show drinking Coke in those commercials, or how many "studies" are done telling us that caffeine is a health product, I can't imagine either being good for us.

    Do you mean "Rogue"?

    Coconut Oil Convert

Like corn syrup? LOL...even the paid actors in those commercials look like they know they're lying through their teeth.
  12. I'm taking Nexium. Maybe it's not enough?
  13. I'm 18 days out and I'm having a similar problem. I'm at a point now where I have that "gnawing hunger" feeling in my stomach nearly all the time now, all day long. It's not head hunger, it's that almost cramping hunger and it's starting to make me concerned. I thought one of the benefits of the surgery was to not feel so hungry all the time, but it's actually gotten worse post-surgery. I thought maybe it was just extreme thirst, but I drink water all day long and that doesn't help. Even after I have my protein shake or soup, about 10 minutes later I start feeling it again. Should I call my doctor?

    I Can Suddenly Eat More

Your doctor allows you to eat pork chops and hamburgers at only 4 weeks out? I can't even start puréed food until 4 weeks out! I can't have beef or pork until about six MONTHS out. Wow! I knew there were discrepancies between different individual plans, but good lord! Is anyone else able to eat beef after only four weeks?

    Hey July Sleevers!

I'm July 9th. I'm not sure how to add myself. Thanks!

    Lmao Literally

I have a tattoo of a dragon on my left biceps that got larger as I got larger. So now I'm wondering if it will get slimmer as I get slimmer as well.
  17. Hi all. I'm not sure if I'm panicking over nothing, but I thought I'd ask.... I'm 16 days out of surgery and I've lost about 30 lbs since I started my pre-op diet. However, I stopped losing weight 6 days ago--I haven't lost a single pound since Friday. I haven't been doing anything differently. I'm still on full liquids and I haven't introduced anything new into my diet. I've just been drinking Water, Protein shakes, and some low-sodium liquidy Soups. Is this something I should be concerned about? Is this normal? Shouldn't it be a steady, progressive weight loss? Or are all bets off for the first couple months?

Stalled? Or Are All Bets Off?

Thank you for all your replies! I knew there was a three week stall, but I stalled after about one week. I'm only 16 days out and I stalled at day 10. It just seems a little strange.

    Why Are/were You Fat?

I just gain weight easily. I've always been one of those people who can just look at food and gain weight. Everyone in my family is the same way. If I really restrict my diet and I exercise like a madman, I can keep the weight off, but then my whole day becomes about "not gaining weight". My whole week, my whole life, becomes about "not gaining weight". I turned to bodybuilding because I can put on muscle easily, but again, my whole existence becomes about "how much lean Protein did I eat today?", "did I do enough cardio this week?", "when am I going to get my workout in?", etc. After a while, I became so burnt out on worrying about what I put in my mouth and how my body responded to it. It was like, "Ok, uncle! I give up!" and I just ate what I wanted. So of course the weight just started piling on. Am I an emotional eater? Maybe. Is my thyroid low? A little. Am I always hungry? Yes. Did trying to correct these things work? Not really. So weight loss surgery seemed to be the best idea.
  20. Yeah, it was nothing like that. I felt fine, except for the diarrhea. Maybe my stomach just didn't like the soup.

    I'm Still Hungry... And Miserable

I started to feel hungry about a week after surgery. It's hard at this point to distinguish hunger from thirst though, so I drink as much water as I can and that has helped. But I'm still surprised that people say they don't experience hunger when I clearly do.

    White Tongue

I had white tongue too. It went away after about a week as well.
  23. Is dumping just diarrhea then? I just had a small bowl of soup and it went through me pretty fast, resulting in a diarrhea situation. It was coconut curry soup. Maybe I ate too much of it? I'm 13 days out of surgery.

My Hubby Keeps Eating My Food!

If you can't eat his food, then start using his deodorant, his razors & shaving cream, wearing his socks, using his favorite mug, etc...
  25. Aww, thanks! You're sweet I don't know what I'd be after I lose all the weight. I used to be a gym rat ("used to" being one of the major reasons I gained so much weight). But I'm so burnt out on bodybuilding.
