July 2007 I was banded - I lost around 40 lbs and then started gaining and am now 11 lbs below where I was when I got the lap band.
I am scheduled to have the band to sleeve revision with Dr. Kim in Colleyville on August 28th, 2012.
In December of 2011, my cousin was sleeved and in 5 months he had lost 120 lbs. I in the meantime I continued to gain. With more weight came more reason to beat myself up mentally. I was a failure in the world of weight loss. I can run a business I can manage money I am a good parent with a great son and am a good wife to a wonderful husband - but this weight problem has been a monkey on my back that I feel so defeated by. I felt ashamed and embarrassed. I finally started lurking around on these boards mid April. I knew better than to lurk too long or I would end up contacting a doctor to see if by chance there may be hope for someone like me. And in June I called several doctors and finally made an appt. with Dr. Kim - I wanted someone who had performed SEVERAL Band to Sleeve revisions and he seemed to fit the bill. July I had my first consultation - please note: I have to drive 200 miles one way to get to his office.
THe morning of my appointment I nearly chickened out. I called a lady I knew who has successfullly lost weight with the sleeve and asked her if it was worth the drive - she said she would do it all over again in a heartbeat!
I was scared - what if I fail again - what if I die in surgery - what if what if what if....Am I really ready to follow all these rules?
Well, I believe I am. I kept the appointment. I had to follow up with 2 more appointments for various tests and procedures.
And as of yesterday I started my 2 week liquid diet. It isn't pleasant - today I find myself wanting to back out and run back to the comfort of food - but I am keeping my eye on the prize. I am fortunate to have 2 sisters who said they will do the liquid phase with me just to encourage me. I pray I find a will power I never knew I had. I pray that as I process thru this journey I find myslf able to encourage others as you all have encouraged me. I pray I am one of the ones who say I DID IT!! And that is my story - thank you for listening.
