    Sleeved 30Th July - Day 5

Can you make some hot ginger tea and take small sips of that? I'm still pre-op but I've read some posts just today that fresh post-op some have a hard time with plain water....maybe it's too cold for you just now. Ginger is very settling to the stomach, so even it you take tiny tiny sips maybe that will help???? I hope you feel better soon! I think each day gets better and better (from what I've ready). And of course, there are also posts on here that say the 4th day post-op is probably the worst. Tomorrow will be a new day.
  4. Have you had the boils before? How big are they? (like size of quarter?) Do they hurt? Do they drain any fluid? If you answered yes, it "could" be MRSA. You might want to check with your doctor. They can give you antibiotics to treat them and possibly give you nasal ointment to prevent colonization. I'm not saying that's what it is, but you don't want to take any chances. You should let your doctor know about them. BTW, MRSA boils during a flare up can make you feel like you have the flu or drain your energy. I think having any kind of painful boil or something like that would affect anyone's mood. I hope you feel better soon!!!
  5. Thanks for sharing...what an awesome video! You look so happy and really great in a bikini!!! What a transformation! This has inspired me so much! I hope I can be as successful (I'm scheduled for Oct. 8th).

    Endoscopy And Blood Tests...

No, never, but try to drink lots of fluid/water to***ht so you won't be dehydrated and will have lots of blood to give tomorrow.
  8. Wow, what a change! Thanks for sharing! You look great, and I'm sure you feel better too!

    After Surgery

Yeah for both of you, you did it!!! I think just about every post I've read about the first day or two after surgery, everyone has the thought of "why did I do this to myself." It will get better, just hang in there. We are all here cheering you on and every day gets a little better. As the sleevers say, sip sip sip and walk walk walk. Truly, I think it's the walking that helps with the pain because it helps all of the gas dissipate. Please keep us posted on your progress! Today will be a better day

Week 5- So Depressing / Disgusting To Eat

Hi, sorry you are going through such a hard time right now. I'm not speaking from experience, because I'm not even scheduled to have my surgery until Oct.. 8th!!! HOWEVER, I think I have hope for you. You mentioned here in this post you are only 5 weeks out.....that means you just got your sleeve only 5 weeks ago? If that's correct, please, please don't despair! You can't eat much right now. And probably for the next couple of months can't each much. BUT, I work with a gal who had this surgery done last year. She eats whatever now, she just eats small portions. Like maybe about 1 cup worth? Her plate fills up like the size of a 1/2 sandwich... Anyway, she was my saving grace in my decision. I, like you, had these issues about not being able to eat. I asked her what she does for the holidays? for going out to dinner? She always gets a plate to go and eats it for the next couple of meals. So please don't think you won't be able to enjoy your favorite foods from time to time. You just can't NOW. So make it up in your mind that yes, right NOW you can only eat extremely small portions. But next Spring and Summer, you will be able to eat a little more. . . . not as much as pre-surgery, but isn't that a good thing to keep the weight off? I hope this helps! I see what she eats for lunch every day, and your portion sizes will increase from a couple of bites, I promise you. Hang in there!

    Any Sleevers For October 5Th?

Yes, I've already joined the October 2012 Sleevers group on here. I also have sent a friend request to you. Your ticker says you have 94 lbs. to go. I have 104 lbs. to go, so we also have that in common as well (only 10 lbs. difference)!!!

    First Day Of Liquids!

Please forgive me because I don't want to tell you wrong. Since I'm still pre-op, I haven't had my pre-op liquid diet yet. But do sugar free popsicles count as liquid for your pre-op diet? If yes, that's something you can kinda "chew" on. There are some tropical flavor sugar free popsicles that are delicious!!!

    Hey Out There...just Starting Process...

Welcome! I get the same comments too because I am tall, and the way my weight is distributed, people don't realize I need to lose over 100 lbs. But I still have the rolls, the comorbidities and the inability to buy clothes in the normal size stores. I am also very close to being diabetic which I don't ever want to get there!!! I will now never ever look at the Lane Giant store name the same again!!!! ha ha ha That really made me laugh! Yeah for you for doing this in your 30s! I'm in my 40s and I wish they did this back when I was in my 30s!

    Mental Break

Oh dcobb, I'm so glad you are home and on the mend. How scary! I am still pre-op, so I can't relate. However, I am reading a book called "Weight Loss Surgery: Is It Right for You?" by Merle Cantor Goldberg, George Cowan Jr., William Y. Marcus. In the book, it discusses the importance of a support system, someone you can talk to about issues that come about. It also talks about family members and their reaction to you having surgery. Not all family members will be supportive, and in the book it specifically says that sometimes siblings may not be as supportive, esp if they are overweight themselves, because of "sibling rivalry." I really don't know if this is the case with your sister, but that wasn't very nice of her to tell you such horror stories before you had your surgery. That goes for ANYONE having ANY kind of surgery. It's just heartless to instill panic and fear in someone. Clearly you had already met with your surgeon, had confidence in his abilities, and felt comfortable with him doing this surgery on you. All surgeons are different, and all complications are different. And especially when there is a bad outcome, sometimes those stories get told and passed along, exaggerated, changed, etc. You had to go by YOUR surgeon and HIS statistics. I am sorry your sister is clearly not supportive at this time. In the book, it suggests that you keep in close touch with your support system (whoever that is, your husband, friend, surgeon's office, support group members, and/or us here on this board). We are here for you! And yes, you may still have some hurdles, but hopefully you have read through the forums on this board to know what to expect. You will get through this! And by the way, obesity is a disease. And obesity disease causes depression. So in the long run, when you look into the future 6 months, 9 months, 12 months from now, as your weight comes down and you are feeling better, the depression will subside as well. And as your health and well-being, and quality of life get better, other family members like your sister will take notice and come to realize that hey, this was indeed a good thing for you! I'm sorry this is so long, but I feel you are reaching out by your post and we are all here for you. Please make a contract, PLEASE, right here and now: if you EVER have thoughts of suicide, if you EVER start getting those feelings, that you will NOT do anything until you have talked to someone about it first!!! You pick who that someone is. Whether it is someone close to you in your life, surgeon's office, whoever. PLEASE, validate your contract here on this board. I don't know you, but I'm making you confirm this contract. This is from my heart. And I believe I speak on behalf of other members of this board. As long as you communicate, we will do our best to help you through the hurdles. It's not easy, but try not to focus on your sister right now. Focus on you and your new healthy lifestyle!

    Surgery Is Tomorrow Morning! :) :) :) :)

Glad it's over....yeah!!!!! So sorry to hear about need for removal of monitor. Hopefully that's just a little simple procedure. . . . and then you can have your liquids!!! Thanks for sharing about the things you brought to the hospital (gas strips, small pillow, heating pad). . . . nice to know what works and came in handy. Mine is scheduled (tentatively) for Oct. 8th and it can't get here soon enough! I'm just ready to be done already!!! Hang in there!
  22. Maybe try some ginger tea? Ginger really soothes your tummy and nausea. Glad to hear you're home and doing well!!!!

    Pepcid Ac

FYI they won't give you ANYTHING in the hospital unless it is ordered by your physician (even a simple heart burn pill or even a tylenol) . . . nothing without an order. So, your doctor must have ordered it. Usually, there are routine orders that the doctor fills out for things that you can have "if needed." A nurse cannot and will not give any med without an order. Hope this clarifies!
