Tell Me About the Psychological Testing
greyhounder replied to daisey1984's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for the support! Tomorrow is the Day!!! Bec -
I have a UGI scheduled for next week (March 20) to rule our a hiatal hernia. Last UGI I had was in 1989! I almost never get heartburn, but a big ol' greasy or something spicy sometimes will get me. I also get some stomach upset during allergy season. The doc does not suspect the hernia, but wants to rule it out. If I do have a hiatal hernia, he'll just fix it while he's in there. No worries here -- except for drinking the barium (uck!) Bec

Tell Me About the Psychological Testing
greyhounder replied to daisey1984's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for the reply! I got some great reassurance from the program coordinator today too. She said that they psych stuff is just to ensure that you have realistic goals about the surgery and weight loss. She is sure that I will pass the psych eval without troubles. MMPI is in 3 days!! Bec -
Tell Me About the Psychological Testing
greyhounder replied to daisey1984's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have some worries about the psych stuff -- not so much the MMPI. That sounds sort of fun! I have Bipolar 2 (more depression, and the mania is not very high, just very busy). I am on medication, doing well, thank you, and in therapy. I have fully disclosed this to the program coordinator and the counselor (my first appt w/ the coordinator is in a could hours, the MMPI on Thursday, with the psychologist the following Thursday). I just worry that someone may think that my Bipolar might be an issue (it wouldn't be -- really!) Anyone else have similar worries? Bec -
Pre-Op with question about MRSA (staph infection)
greyhounder replied to crystal w's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Following a knee surgery I had several years ago, I developed a staph infection on my left upper thigh. Not knowing what it was I scratched at it and spread it around the leg. The doctors would never own up to it as a staph infection (I'm sort of a med-head, so I did my own research). It took a LONG time, but after leaving it alone and keeping the area dry, it did clear up finally. It didn't involve my surgical area, but if it had gotten into a wound, I would have been very concerned (and angry!) Best of luck to you! Bec -
I guess I'm sort of out of the norm. I haven't gotten my band yet, but have already told a number of people about the procedure and how it will impact my eating. We have lots of food at work most of the time, and I'm just not going to be able to partake like I have in the past. That would definitely raise eyebrows, so I've been talking about the band, what it is, how it works, all that. I'm already getting great support. But I'm not telling everyone, because I don't feel comfortable telling the world at this point. Not sure if some people will care or even notice actually. But I suppose if someone asks why I'm not eating something, I'd probably just tell them about the band. Maybe -- we'll just have to see. Bec

Just wanted to say hi. I am very pre-surgical for a lap band. I have my first appointment on Monday (March 12). At this point, I am told that I am a good surgical candidate. Insurance won't pay, but I am able to get the money to be a self pay patient. The surgery would be done right here in my hometown in south eastern WI. I'm nervous, I'm excited. I'm looking forward to a better, healthier life. Bec

Another from Fort Atkinson -- HI! Bec
-
Hi All! Another Wisconsinite here -- also from Fort Atkinson. I have my 1st appointment at Fort Hospital Monday, then off to Behavioral Health that Thursday to take the MMPI (follow up the next week). I don't know 100% that they will say yes to banding me -- not sure what criteria is used for denial (I'm fat and have the cash coming from grandpa, and am not too crazy, but very willing to make a change!!) But I was told by the coordinator that I am a good candidate. It's very nice that there are some others here that got banded in Fort -- really makes me more excited! Cross your fingers for me -- if all goes well, I can be banded in April! Bec
