I ws banded on 12/3/12 and have lost 36lbs. Went for a fill and they discovered that my band may be faulty. They believe scar tissue is causing a kink in the tubing. So I have to undergo sugery this Friday for a revision to the port, however if the band still isnt working properly they have to replace it and basically starting at square 1 again. I have been following the rules and trying to be optimistic but a little discouraged about having to have surgery again.

Today I had an adjustment appt. and after 7hrs at the hospital they discovered that I have scar tissue growing over my band which is causing it to only fill on one side. I have to have surgery sometime this week to correct it. If I can't keep clear liquids down then I may need to have emergency surgery this weekend. I'm only 9wks post op but feel so discouraged with this set back. Anyone else have this happen?

Thank you. I do believe this is kinda like a freak thing to happen. I did alot of homework before surgery and never came across this so no reason to bash my band lol. However I do get upset because I have a co worker who was banded and does all the no no's of banding such as Chinese food, sodas, pizza, and bread on a daily basis and she makes me feel bad about how much I have lost. She was banded 7mnths prior to me. I feel frustrated I have been following the rules but this happened to me. I'm going to stay positive and trust my doctors and go from there.

I was banded 12/3/12 with not a specific goal weight but I want to be healthy. I have always played sports and was very active until my pregnancy. I have always been heavy but the real weight packed on then. She is now 4 and does tap/ballet, soccer, tball. I have the worst time keeping up with all her activities due to no energy. So I did my homework for 9mnths before I was banded. I wanted the good, bad and ugly so I was prepared for anything. I knew it was a tool and I would still have to do the work, so I was mentally prepared for my journey. The doctors suggested gastric bypass instead due to people with alot of weight to lose not being successful with the band. However I came on here and saw many people very successful with the band and I'm determined to be one of them. I decided to have the WLS to jump start my weight and when the energy comes back I would be ready to get back my life the way it was prior to pregnancy. I want to be able to keep up with my daughter and enjoy life with her instead of watching her from a distance. I have hit a small bump in the road. Right now waiting till this week to have surgery on my band due to scar tissue has grown on one side so the band can't be filled properly. I was upset since I have been following the rules and made life changes. But as always there is a silver lining and i have lost 40lbs since being banded. I don't regret my decision at all. This was one of these rare cases so I'm not going to let this get me down. Bottom line I had the surgery for ME to be healthy once again. ???€ Have a great workout out the gym and a great Super Bowl Sunday!

Thank you everyone. I'm trying to stay positive and stay focused on the end result. That's to be healthy.

They found out when they did the fill it was too tight so they tried to remove some and it wouldn't come out. They thought my port was tilted was it was fine. After fluro they noticed it on the screen when they put contrast in it only filled one side of the band. That's when they noticed the scar tissue restricting the fill. No symptoms at all.

I'm 9wks post op and down 32lbs but the scale hasn't moved in a week. I have 1.5cc in my band but I'm discouraged that I'm failing.

Thanks everyone! It went great. There was no meet to be nervous at all. He didn't numb it and it was over in seconds. Monday I will be 6wks post op and down 28lbs. He gave me 1 1/2cc to get started.

Two weeks post op - can't get the calories in
krzy4vt replied to Jewelsm1127's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through the same thing. I was getting bout 750-800 calories a day. It's due to you are still healing and there is some swelling. Once my swelling went down my hunger started coming back. I am at 1000 calories daily but somedays I could use more but trying not to. I go for a fill on Friday so hopefully it will help. Best of luck with your journey. -
I had surgery 12/3/12 and the pain felt as if I had done a bunch of crunches. It was sore but tolerable. I came home and watched a movie with my friends and had water. I did sip and no problems. I had broth for dinner. The only issue I had was not able to get all the fluid intake in and called my NUT and she said it was normal just to get as much in as possible to prevent dehydrating. I have a 4yr old daughter so staying down too long wasn't an option. Each day I felt better and better. Best of luck with ur surgery. I am down 25lbs and not regretting the surgery at all.

I am 4wks post op and have lost 22lbs. People say they can see it in my face and they really can tell. However I dnt see it at all. I know the scale is going down but I think I'm mentally having trouble believing it. I have been thinking my battery in my scale is going bad. However it's brand new. Is it normal to feel this way!

Thanks everyone. I was very skeptical that I would lose weight just due to my past attempts. I feel hopeful now like I can really do this. -
Starving! I swear Thurs can't get here quick enough
krzy4vt replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry to hear that. I have a co worker who found protein drops you can add to anything to help with your protein intake. I will ask her more about it when I get to work and maybe that could be a solution or least help. Hope you feel better soon. -
I went today for a 2 week visit since I couldn't get seen next week due to the holidays. I have lost 14lbs and I am thrilled! I go back in 4wks for a fill.

I use a protein shake in the morning that I add 8oz of skim milk and 3tbs on nonfat dry milk. It totals 38grams of protein in one shake and it really works to curb my hunger. I drink it around 7 in the morning and it keeps me full 6-7 hours. It's the best. -

I was having the same problem and I got advocare muscle gain protein shake and mixed it w 8oz skim milk and 3tbs of non fat powder milk. It is 38grams of protein. I have it around 7am before work and it literally keeps me full for 6-7 hours. I was so shocked how well it worked and got half of my protein for the day in one shake. My nutritionist was impressed with it also. I can give you my website if you would like to check it out but I love it. Best of luck in your journey! -
I work in HR as well and employers are not required to give breaks if they are on the clock. I still tried to give my employees a break because I didn't like this law and everyone deserves a break. Some jobs are less concerned about their employees well being and most employees need their jobs. I have worked jobs in the past like this and I only have one child. It's def hard working and coming home and taking care of your family so I try to make it fun activity like walking/running beside her bike, flying a kite, jump rope. The way I see it 45mins of playing outside with my daughter is better than nothing at all. Good luck in trying to fit some activity in.

HELP one week since band
krzy4vt replied to Startingover2012new's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded last Monday as well. I def feel ur pain with the gas. I thought it would only be a few days but I still have bad episodes with it. Try laying down and place a heating pad under you. That really helps me. I also did the gasX strips n walked and that didn't seem to phase it. Good luck and I hope this might help you. -
If you have young kids how did you address it?
krzy4vt replied to dolphintattoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My daughter is 4 and I just kept it simple with her and said "mommy is going to the doctor for surgery and he is going to fix my belly" she asked few questions like will it hurt? I told her I would hv a few boo boos but I would be fine. I am 1week post op and she has been the best doctor ever. She wants to help me with everything. If I tried to bend to pick something up she would say "no mommy ur boo boo" and she is curious bout the incisions so I let her look at them. -
Nobody told me about plication!!!
krzy4vt replied to Peaceful1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked my surgeon and he does it with every band because he said it is recommended by lapBand for better results. My insurance picked it up as well and I trust my surgeon since he has done this for yrs. 1week post op today and feeling great.
