Advocare 24-Day Challenge
krzy4vt replied to Redesigned_Curves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love Advocare. Done the challenge before/after band. The only difference with it is you can't eat all they want you too and vitamins are big. So I just modify it for my band. We are on vacation and when I get back I'm going to do the challenge just to get back into the swing of things. Btw I love spark and even here at Disney I hv been taking it everyday into the parks. I'm sorry. My appt was early and I just saw this. I did mention that you googled them and didn't see it. They said to call and ask questions and they can def help. They did mention they don't do plicaton later on. They do it standard with WLS. Def give them a call. I dnt remember having to pay for the seminar but ins might hv.

I go to see Dr Hallowell today. I can grab his info if you can't find it online.
-
They have a fabulous bariatric program. I hv Aetna and they cover it all. All my surgery cost was my copay of $125. Dr Hallowell is awesome and so is his whole staff. I asked him bout plicaton n he said he does it with every band because the band company recommends it for better results.
-
My surgeon Dr Hallowell does it. He is at university of Virginia. (UVA). I asked him bout it and he does it standard with every band.

I went for a fill. They put 1.5cc in and realized it was too much. They went to take it out and it wouldn't release the fluid. After 7hours and numerous attempts by different doctors, they decided to look under fluoro and they noticed when they put contrast in that it was only filling one side of the band. When they attempted to pull the contrast out. It wouldn't come back out. The port moved due to weight loss before the scar tissue formed enough to keep port in its place. When it moved it caused a kink. They say it happens less than 2% but leave it to me to be one of them. I did all my homework and weighed all pros and cons and never heard of this either. I'm 4weeks post op today and starting to get back to normal. I go for a fill next week so maybe bandster hell will be lil easier to manage.
-
I believe I'm going through bandster hell. I was banded 12/3/12 but had port revision 2/8/13 due to kink in my tubing. I'm doing ok but the hunger is unreal. I eat plenty of protein and measure and count calories but I get hungry about 2hrs every time. This has been tough and a test of self control. Is this bandster hell? My doctor won't do a fill till next week. Having 2 surgeries in 2 months he wants me to heal more.

Thinking about joining a gym/need inspiration...
krzy4vt replied to jennygirl37's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I joined a gym recently and love it. I'm only 3wks post op for port revision so no machines just yet. I do 30 mins on treadmill, 10mins elliptical and 10 mins on bike. I want to do more but I'm following the drs orders to a tee. There are so many different types of people working and honestly haven't felt uncomfortable. I am the biggest person in there but I keep gettin it. Also I mentioned to the owner I just had WLS and was in desperate need of a gym. He waived the registration fee and gave me a nice monthly discount. Best of luck in your journey. -
I recently joined a gym and realized how much I missed working out. When my NUT said I needed to work out 5x's week I thought she was crazy! I'm a single mom and my daughter does tap, ballet and t-ball. There was no time for the gym. I decided I had to find a way so I started taking my daughter with me and the gym owner got her a few coloring books and they talk to her to keep her from getting bored. The owner is aware of my WLS and his staff is very supportive. I have been able to go 5x's a week! This is a huge accomplishment for me and I'm proud of myself.

I went through the same issues with some people. I had the hardest time with my godmother. She was strictly against it. I have been very open bout my plans and I had to just tell her I understand she is against it however it is my decision and I'm ok if she doesn't support it. I have alot of support from others and I hope one day she will be ok with it. She then called and said after some thought she realizes I'm not the kind if person who doesn't do their homework and that she believes I'm an intelligent woman who looked at every pro and con. Now 3mnths post op she is very supportive. Good luck in your journey. This is for you and the people who love you will support you maybe not right away but they will come around.

Well said. I have been debating this one with some coworkers who had WLS before me. They eat all kinds of bad junk. And say that they are not losing cuz muscle weighs more than fat. If ur not working out then I'm skeptical that it's muscle weight.

Advise After Revision!!
krzy4vt replied to REDDGIRL1209's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had revision 2weeks post op now. My doctor had me start at the beginning with clear liquids, then puréed, mushies, then back to soft solids. I also thought this surgery was more painful than the first but I was thinking I was only 8wks post op the first time them had to have major surgery again. So my poor body has had a few rough months so def take your pain meds when needed. I noticed also it seems like I'm healing at a slower pace then the first time. Hope you start feeling better soon. -
How much weight have you lost?
krzy4vt replied to MyCosita's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have lost 40lbs and I am 10 week post op. it's been a good feeling and I'm excited bout the journey ahead. My goal is 100lb to be healthy and maybe eventually hit 150lbs loss to be skinny. I have never been skinny so I'm being realistic bout it. However the sky's the limit. -
I was banded 12/3 and was rockin my band until they realized my band wasn't working properly due to a kink in the line. I had surgery again to revise the port 2/8. The problem is the incision where the port is happens to be much larger now and slower healing. It's really difficult to wear a bra due to it rubbing right on it. I work at a hospital and we have try a few things to make it more comfortable but it continues to pull the glue off the incision. Any suggestions on something else to use. Thanks in advance!
-
I might need to find one. I hv been wearing a sports bra for comfort and an underwire for support to help keep them up high not to touch the incision. However gravity plays a factor and after about 3-4 hours I'm in pain. I'm willing to try anything right now so I can heal. Thanks

I received it the week before my surgery. I don't usually have issues finding something to eat. I just box up most of it for later. My 4yr old daughter loves Golden Corral but I hate paying for an adult for me when I know I can't eat enough. I do use my card there so I'm able to still treat my daughter once in awhile.

I use muscle gain by advocare. It can be made with milk or water. With water it's 25grams of protein w/milk 38grams. It's a Lil pricey but def worth it since it keeps me full 6-8hours. Check it out at www.advocare.com/12102403 best of luck in your journey and hope this helps

Thanks and hope things are going well for you. It does suck going through the post op stages again. Hopefully this is just a minor setback and all is good now.

I was banded 12/3 and heading out today for surgery again. They are not for sure if its scar tissue or a faulty band until they can get it in and take a look. So best case scenario is port revision, worst case is complete band procedure all over again. Trying to stay positive but I could use some positive thoughts and prayers today. Thanks in advance.

I went in for my second fill and they filled me but before they let you leave you have to drink some water. Well I was too tight and when they tried to unfill me they couldn't. They went in with fluro and noticed some scar tissue kinking the line. This rarely happens actually less than 2%. They had to go in Friday and unkink the tubing and revise my port. At first I was upset bout having to go through it again but I had lost 36lbs at 9wks post op. I'm still happy with my decision to be banded. Just a bump in the road of my journey. So I'm familiar with the post op days. This too shall pass. positive thoughts.

It is def a challenge during this phase but I found this great protein shake that I used skim milk and 3tbs of non fat powdered milk with. It's called muscle gain and it was 38grams of protein in total. I could drink that and it had so much protein that it kept me satisfied for 6-8 hours. It really helped me alot during this phase. It's a Lil pricier but it was a lifesaver for me. Check it out at www.advocare.com/12102403 also it's the purest form of protein which is better since you absorb almost all the protein. I was banded 12/3 but 2days post op again due to kink in tubing. So I'm starting over again. Muscle gain protein shake still works for me. hope this helps and best of luck in your journey as well.

Congrats! NSV are always better I think than what you see on the scale. It shows you are in charge of ur band and changing ur life. Congrats once again.

Thanks everyone. I'm home now and the dr said it was the line had a kink in it and so he did a port revision. I'm relieved it wasn't the band itself. I do feel pretty sore just like the first time but don't have the horrible gas pains this time around. This is a Lil bump in the road and soon be back on my way in my journey. Thanks again everyone. ???ƒ

I have a 4yr old daughter and for Christmas she had got me a "mommy and me" necklace. i love it so much but was heartbroken when I had to tell her that it wouldnt fit around my neck. She was a little dissappointed but I told her I would put in a special place till I could wear it. Well today getting her ready for pre-school she asked me to wear the necklace she got me. i was nervouse about trying it on but IT FIT!!!! She was so excited that i was wearing it to work and it is the first thing since being banded that I have noticed about myself changing. She was so happy and kept telling me to show everyone and to let them know she got it for her mommy! I was banded 12/3/12 and have lost 36lbs but I havent seen the changes yet so this was a first!

Thanks everyone for the best wishes, hopefully it will be something simple. My surgeon says this rarely happens so I am looking as it as a freaky thing. I still dont regret my decision but may questioned it later if it happens again. So fingers crossed! For BandedJourney I have the LapBand but i hope this doesnt discourage you any. Up until Friday it was going smooth and I was rockin this band So best of luck to you with surgery tommorrow.
