My best friend had gastric bypass because she was told it would help with her PCOS. Her surgery was 2 years ago, she has lost 120 and at a good weight. She feels better, but her PCOS seems worse now than before. She has 3 week cycles. I feel for anyone with PCOS.

I Love Been Banded And Plicated!
Kime-lou replied to ilikebunnies's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgeon does plication, but said he didn't feel like I needed it. He said he would do it if I really wanted, but he didn't feel the extra risk was worth it for me. Now I wish I would have done it. I am 8 weeks out and lost 25 lbs and the last 5 have been a real struggle. Going in for another fill tomorrow hope this will help me stay full longer. -
I understand, I am the same way. But, with this surgery I said for once I am going to be selfish and I am going to take care of me. I purchase meals for the hubs that he could easily prepare himself. The only thing I did was take care of me for a few days and frankly that is all I had the energy to do. Once I was feeling better though I felt like I could takle the world. My hubs was like, geez did they implant an energizer bunny in there or something.

1- When I had surgery I felt rough for about 5 days then started feeling better. Unless the kids are super extra good you will need some help for a few days. You are not suppose to lift over 10 lbs, that was my post op orders, for 3 weeks. I could bend, but it hurt for about a week. 2-I was able to go up and down stairs fine with no problems. Walking post op is really good for you. 3-You can drive as soon as you are off meds. I had surgery on Friday and was driving again on Tuesday, but not long distances. 4- I would say give your self at least 5, people will tell you they took less - I tried to, but just couldn't do it. You are on liquids when you come home and my energy level was nada for the first 5. 5- You can't lift anything over 10 lbs for 3 weeks or at least that was my post op orders. I wouldn't let my 18 lbs cat walk on me, you are pretty sore. I would keep them off, just try to get them to lay close rather than on you. Keep in mind you are going through surgery, you body will be in shock afterwards and will need some time to heal and recover. I have had 3 other surgeries in my life- I recovered quicker for all of those than this one. One year before lapband surgery I had my gallblader removed, I was back up and perfect in about 3 days, this surgery it took 5 before I felt like a human again. But this was just my experience. For each person on this site you will get a diffrent story- each person is different.

Banded Yesterday...questions??
Kime-lou replied to readytogetstarted's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call the doctor, but likely it is because the scratched the air passages during intibation. I use to work in the hospital and it was common after extibation for patients to have this. But reporting it to the doctor will not hurt. -
I love fruit and I use to eat fruit for Snacks, especially in the summer. On Friday I will be 8 wks post op and have only slight restriction. I tried a banana yesterday for mid-morning snack, around 9:30 (I eat Breakfast at 5:30), but an hour later I was starving, I had a Fiber one 90 cal brownie so I ate that which curbed the hunger and I made it to lunch at 12:30. Is fruit just slider and to be avoided? I try to avoid slider foods because I know they are non filling calories, but I do hate to lose my fruit. What have your experieces with fruit been?

What Is Your One Main Motivation?
Kime-lou replied to ☠carolinagirl☠'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have two. One is to finally be happy with the way I look, it's time I am in control not the food or fat. Two is my health- I don't want to be diabetic like my dad or have a stroke at 40 like my brother. I want to be healthy so I can enjoy a long life with my wonderful husband. -
Eating With Large Groups At Big Meals After Lap Band
Kime-lou replied to Lapbandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same fears. My family has huge holiday get togethers. But, instead of gorging myself like others do, I eat what satisfys me and then I talk to those around me or play with the kids. It really wasn't as bad as I thought. Plus most people don't even notice what you are or aren't eating they are to busy stuffing their face or talking. One way to really curb yourself at resturants is once you are done eating rather than letting the plate sit in front of you is the way at the watress when she walks by and either get a doggy bag that can be out of site or out of mind or get her to take it away- this is what I have to do. -
I was told to wake 48 hours before showering and then I could shower, but no tub baths for 2 weeks.

Went To Seminar, Confused And Have Some Questions
Kime-lou replied to knknosmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon told me that I could loose as much weight as I put the work in to loose. The average weight lost is 40-60% of excess body weight, however that is an average meaning some loose less, some loose more. I would recommend finding a different surgeon, you need one on your side who will be supportive. Carbinated beverages aren't difficult to give up post op. I thought it would be bad, but I really don't want them. I took a few sips of my hubs dt dew the other day and it caused belly pain, so I don't want to drink it. Crystal light has wonderful flavor packs. Steak- some are able to eat it some aren't. Each person is different and until you are at the point to try it you won't know. Any meat you eat though will need to be tender, so a tough steak would like cause problems. But a nice tender cut of steak you should be able to handle. -
check out the U-Tube videos from newtoyforkatie she ahd some of her friends did it and she talks about it alot. I have enjoyed her utube blog.

My nutritionist said about 1 cup total. Your are so right, pre band me would have said your are crazy only eat 1 cup of food and be satisfied. Now I feel like that is possible with out me turning into an evil witch.

I don't really fill like I am in Bandster hell. The only time I ever get really hungry is in the mornings. Most of the time a small about of food 1 to 1.5 cups of food fill me for at least 3 hours if not 4. However, I know I could eat more, but I choose not to. I do go back for a fill on Thursday, I hope they give me a small one, I have not had any problems yet and I don't want to get to tight and have major problems.

When I wanted to rest, I would heat a towel in the microwave for 1 min and lay that over my belly and it would soothe the soreness and allow me to rest well. I hate pain killers so I never too the perscription. Gel packs also work well, you can get them in medical stores or Walmart, you can heat them per directions and lay that over the area. It really helped me.

Newbie - Just Started Researching Surgeons
Kime-lou replied to soflodeb's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Google any doctor you consider. I look up their ratings and also check to see if they are certified in baratric surgery instead of being just a general surgeon. -
Yep, you still have gas trying to get out and you are still swollen. It took me about a week to feel normal aside from being able to eat. However, if you are having productive burps you may want to call your doctor, indigestion can cause problems. I was told to have malox on hand for indigestion to keep it from getting bad. The indigestion can cause your stomach to get irritated and prolonged indigestion can cause your band to slip.

This weekend was a rough one. My weight had gone up on Friday and I was really worried the band was not going to work for me, my fear getting the best of me. I was really down unable to figure out the patter of my weight ups and downs. I was feeling like I had failed on many fronts. I have been married 3 years and the first year I had 3 miscarriages. I am able to get pregnant easily, yet I can not carry past a month or two. This hurts greatly, I have always wanted to be a mother, so I feel like I am not a "true" woman because I can't have a baby. I also feel like I failed my husband in that I can't give him a child. This has been a great hurt for me, but most of the time I can deal with it and stay rational and not let it get me down. This weekend though I felt like I was failing the band just like I'd failed at motherhood. I had a good 'ole pity party Saturday. After giving my house a good clean, I sat down and let it all out to the hubs and had a good cry, then a good nap. It helped to get it all out. It does seem like loosing weight and changing so many of my habits have an effect on my emotions. Just as everything else in my life, apprently this is going to be a roller coaster. Please do berate me for my feelings and opinions, they are mine and I have a right to them. I am doing what I am suppose to and following my teams directions. I have lost weight, but for me the chaging of myself carries an emotional toll. I have been overweight since I was 6 years old. My habits started 25 years ago. I suppose everyone needs to have a pity party every now and again or just a good cry, this weekend was mine.

I understand that, but try to stay calm. You may go tomorrow and find that it's nothing. My grandfather always had an abnormal EKG even though he had a strong heart. They found it in the military and he lived to be 85 and it never gave him a problem, it was just an abonormality. His cardiologist gave him a small card that had info about the conidition if he ever went into a hospital they would understand way his EKG was so odd and not rush him into unneeded surgery. So try not to get to upset, hopefully everything will be fine. I will say a prayer. Keep us posted on what they tell you.

They are looking at your aorta. You are better off getting this checked on now. If you have any issues surgery could pose great risk. Having found this now, if there is acutally a problem may be a blessing in disquise. EKG can be abnormal for many reasons so it could be nothing or something so it is better to figure it out now.

I was told not to do abdominal excercise until 6 weeks. I was told this after did some crunches and pull something, it has taken a month for the pain to totally go away.

7 Weeks Pregnant And So Nervous
Kime-lou replied to Krussell19's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I understand, I had 3 miscarriages in a year. I am terrified to look at a pregnancy test. Not sure I will ever have one. -
It's easy to revert back to the life style we lived for so many years. Being banded means a forever lifestyle change, not a diet. I am having to work on changing my thinking as well as my habits and I doubt I will ever be able to live on autopilot when it come to my eating. I will always have to be vigiliant when it comes to what and how much I consume. Hope back on the "band" wagon and do it. Put one foot in front of the other and start making the changes to get back on course. If you feel like it's really a mental thing talk to a psychologist. Nothing wrong with admitting you need help.

Laughing cow cheese wedges don't have a ton of protein, but are awesome with crackers. Some of the South Beach bars are pretty good and have protein with out a ton of calories. One of the ways that is easy to add protein to your diet and really helpls me is unflavored unjury. I can add the powder to drinks, casseroles, anything really and it ups my protein without an off taste.
