    Discouraged... :(

I think this is just to attempt and show the insurance you are serious about this. My BCBS didn't make me do the 6 month diet, I just had to show that I had a BMI of over 40 at at least 2 years, which wasn't difficult to do.
  3. Very tight since my fill on Thursday. Gonna give it one more day before going to have some fluid removed.

  4. Feeling like the ugly duckling today! Going to get my hair did after work, hopefully that will adjust my attitude.

    Think i should?

If my tummy looked like that I would consider it to!! If you want one go for it, if you decide you don't like it or you don't want it anymore when you get older just take it out and let the hole close. I say if you want it - go for it!!
  6. Headache, nauseated, sinus drainage- I feel like I am falling apart this week.

Shoulder Pain - does it STOP?!

My doc said the same thing- it's a nerve issue. My muscles in my shoulder tensed up in that area from the pain so badly I am now having acupuncture done to release the muscles.

    I Love Exercise!

I wish I was like that. I don't really enjoy exercise, I did for a while after surgery, but the luster faded. I do enjoy walking my pooches, but that is about it. However, walking my dog can be considered exercise, rather having my freight train of a dog walk me.

    Going for my first fill

Have fun- fills aren't bad. However, I did pass out during my first one. I had a vasovagal response. Basically they push the fluid in to fast and it irritated the vagus nerve and down I went. They have to push the fluid slower now.

    Trader Joe's??

I have only been in once, but they do have some good healthy things. A friend of mine who is health nut says they have some great frozen stuff. She buys meals from there all the time.

    ? For the Ladies

Sorry boys, but this is girl talk.... Stats: Age- 32 Banded- 6/22/12 Starting Weight- 244 @ surgery Lowest seen- 193 (Last Friday 2/1/12) Ok, I have been on birth control for a little over 2 years, which is after my 3rd miscarriage. I haven't had a period since surgery, just spotting when I am suppose to and that is been very little. My doctor told me since I have been on this type of pill so long it's normal not to have a period. However, when I get to the white pill part of my pack when I am suppose to have my cycle my weight seems to jump up, like I am retaining Water. Last Friday and Saturday I was in the 193's. By Monday I had jumped up to 198, today I am sitting at 194. I will start my new pack of pills on Sunday. I just don't get this, the massive fluctuation. I feel like at this time of the month I take 3 steps forward only to take 4 steps back. Any advice? Yes, I have spoken with my doctor and his comment is "lovely female horomones, don't worry about it" Easy for him to say it's not his weight doing the big swings.

    MONSTER hiatal hernia

I had one, but I don't know how large it was. It was fixed during surgery. My mom has one that is massive. 1/3 of her stomach is pooched up through her diaphragm and is causing tons of issues. She has reflux (the worst the ph test has ever seen and she had it done at Duke), she has pain, she is sick a lot and can't eat. She has lost 70 lbs in a year from not being able to eat from the nausea and pain. She goes in to have surgery on it on the 18th of Feb. The surgeon who placed my band also does these and was willing to do her sx also, thank goodness.
  16. My neck and back are killing me- can't wait to go get some needles stabbed into those muscles this afternoon!!!

    Constipation:(

I am 7 months post op and still stuggle with it. I spoke to my doctor yesterday about this, he recommends taking one tablespoon of mineral oil each day and starting on Fiber suplements. I am gonna try it.

    Anyone try Whole30?

In my opinion and from what my NUT said we need a little from all food groups. We need things that are in dairy, we need a certain amount of carb, even salt and sugar. The problem is that most people over do it with these things. My reason for getting the band wasn't to cut out foods or food groups it was to be able to cut my portions down and still stay satisfied. Thus far the band is really helping, however I still have to fight the urge to eat when I am not hungry sometimes or to eat to much at one time. In my opinion, again mine, I don't expect you to listen or to really care, but I feel like before trying anything like this you should consult your surgeon and or NUT. Good Luck

    Long term concerns

I was very nervous to start with. However, with any WLS you can have problems and complications. I knew several people who took the bypass aproach, a couple have lost weight only to gain it back, one is doing perfect, one lost weight, but is having a hard time with keeping levels in balance due to in ablility to absorb nutrients. I talked to my doctor. I ask would I have to replace my band one day, he said possibly, just like some people have to have a second knee replacement if they live long enough. I may not ever have an issue, I know some people who have had their band 15 years with no problems. Once I reach my goal weight and have good restriction I won't have to go see the doctor nearly as often. My doctor likes to have patients come in about once a year once they get to maintance unless they are having a problem. For me the band was the right choice. I wanted to loose weight, but I didn't want to have problems absorbing nutrients. If a day comes and my band has to go I will reevaluate along with my doctor to see if I get a new band or go to the sleeve. But, that day may never happen so I am not going to worry about it for now.

    I'm a newbie and I have a few questions

For me stucks is I swallow and then tightness happens and I can't get anything else down. Some times I will PB (productive burp) and the food will come back - I spit it out and I'm fine. Sometimes I eventually goes through. Restriction isn't really a filling of tightness. It's is more I eat one cup of food and can go 4-5 hours before getting hungry again. As for food that are no no's - you should be able to eat what you want, but should be making healthy choices. Some people, myself included, find eating doughey break a problem. Tough meats are also difficult. That being said unless you are taking small bites and chewing well anything can be a problem. I tend not to eat pork or steak because I can't get it tender enough. I do eat chop steak, which is extra fine ground beef. Some people though never have an issue with any foods, so it really depends on you. Good luck.
