What "negatives" are you experiencing?
SleeveandRNYchica replied to WLJourneyJ's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I had mine in 2012 too.. and they used the largest bougie at the time. I do carefully watch what I eat.. lots of Protein, no rice, Pasta etc.. (okay.. i ate three raviolis a few weeks ago and felt like crap... never again) but i can easily eat an 8 oz steak... plus veggies etc.. so I know "something" is different.. i dont feel as much restriction. I am seeing my dr. at the end of August and he will decide which is best-- resleeve or sleeve to MGB ... but the original post was just finding out what negative side effects people are having... I consider all of what I have going on negative side effects. I know it is not common for the sleeve to twist. I am not sure if that has anything to do with my pregnancy. My gerd is getting worse. Some days it feels like my food is sitting in my chest. I have been drinking more Protein shakes and eating lunch meat and cheese, tuna.... Anything else feels brick-like... Honestly, some days eating is just a chore.... U am looking forward to a revision for many reasons. I really wish you the best. -

If I were you I would call benefits service yourself. I know the insurance coordinators deal with so many different insurances that it could be easier for them to confuse. I have little faith in the one at my drs office. I have emailed her twice no response. Also I knew what the requirements were prior to her allowing me to make my 1st NUT appointment, holding me up a whole month! -

Compression garments.....does anyone hear wear them
SleeveandRNYchica replied to BigTink2LilTink's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You also might want to post this in the men's forum too. I think a lot of guys go in there. I know I lived in Latin America and they do market these for men as well. My husband told me several gentle men in the gym wore them. Wishing you the best! -

Are you sure it is 4 visits vs 90 days? Mine dates are/were- June 3 (1st session), July 15th (2nd session) August 8th (third session); however, I will not reach 90 days until September 3rd. So my 90 day appt or 4th visit is just a weigh in. This is from the brochure: Benefitsforthesurgicaltreatmentofmorbidobesity, performed on an inpatient or outpatient basis, are subject to the pre-surgical requirements listed below. The member must meet all requirements. − Diagnosis of morbid obesity (as defined on page 62) for a period of 2 years prior to surgery − Participation in a medically supervised weight loss program, including nutritional counseling, for at least 3 months prior to the date of surgery. (Note: Benefits are not available for commercial weight loss programs; see page 40 for our coverage of nutritional counseling services.) − Pre-operative nutritional assessment and nutritional counseling about pre- and post-operative nutrition, eating, and exercise − Evidence that attempts at weight loss in the 1 year period prior to surgery have been ineffective − Psychological clearance of the member’s ability to understand and adhere to the pre- and post-operative program, based on a psychological assessment performed by a licensed professional mental health practitioner (see page 97 for our payment levels for mental health services) − Member has not smoked in the 6 months prior to surgery − Member has not been treated for substance abuse for 1 year prior to surgery and there is no evidence of substance abuse during the 1-year period prior to surgery -

How much time is needed post-op to return to work
SleeveandRNYchica replied to osumom027's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took 2 weeks in 2012 when I had my sleeve. I was ready to go back after a week in a half. With my revision to RNY and hernia repair, I plan on taking 4. I think this surgery may require a little more time for recuperation. -

Wow! Not a great way to advertise your business. Most people will see 30k and go the opposite direction. -
I was the perfect sleeve candidate. No GERD and no other comorbities.I went in wanting the bypass. I have been overweight since the age of 5. I thought bypass would be a much better surgery for me. I was on a NUT plan a year before surgery and it took me 6 months to lose 12lbs. Anyways, I let the dr. talk me into sleeve. Almost 3 years later I am in the revision process. I have had some complications that has lead to the RNY path. I wish I had the RNY first.

3 Top Reasons For Regain After Weight Loss Surgery
SleeveandRNYchica replied to Sara Kelly Keenan LC's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Great conversation and filled with all sorts of nuggets. Minus the biological and metabolic issues I would be inclined to include individuals that don't experience a "honeymoon phase." First, what is that defined as? Is there a percentage of weight loss that one could/should achieve to indicate that they are indeed in a honeymoon phase? So with the sleeve I believe the number that is tossed around is that an individual may lose up to 60% of excess weight; how much of that is obtained during the "honeymoon phase?" Is there a correlation between the positive reinforcement of more immediate weight loss and reaching goal and maintaining. Additionally, is it more of the average weight loss over the 18 month period that is more important to focus on. So many people go into this thinking they will lose over 8lbs a month and when that doesn't happen in the early stages it is truly a shift in expectation that needs to take place. Then add in when weight loss stalls after the 12 month mark after a slow road the frustration sets in and then old habits may return. -
Bypass or sleeve...will the answer come to me?
SleeveandRNYchica replied to Soon2beslimSamantha's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It can be overwhelming but I think knowledge is key! I am in the revision process and thought I knew a lot 1st go round. I am learning even more. I am definitely doing group this time. I didn't get a chance last time and I think it is beneficial. -

Wishing you the best in your decision. I think you will find on this forum a lot of information regarding pluses and minuses for both. Each surgery is different. If there is a presurgery support group in your area, you should take advantage. Sometimes I find people ask questions I would not have thought of. -

My weight loss journey... Failed Gastric Sleeve looking into revision from a sleeve to a bypass
SleeveandRNYchica replied to Titaniumsleeved2014's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am in the process for revision as well. The sleeve although a great tool, was not the right surgery for me. I wish you the best, as I know it is an emotional and difficult decision. I am also a bit nervous about the outcome a 2nd go round. -

SleeveandRNYchica replied to WLJourneyJ's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I'm truly sorry you feel that way! I can't say I read your thread as I don't read them all -- it's just not possible. I just posted a long list of complications that I've had with my sleeve, so I would say that I DO realize that the sleeve is not perfect and there are some negatives things that happen. I wish everyone great success in their weight loss efforts, no matter if they pick the sleeve, bypass, the band, atkins. WWs, the cabbage diet.... (I'd add a non sarcastic smiley face but I'm kind of scared to.) Really no need to apologize. You scared, I highly doubt that. -
I did heparin shots for ten days post sleeve. The way they were prescribed it wasn't so bad because I didn't see the needle. They didn't really hurt.
