How much was your out of pocket?!?
NewBegin56 replied to Gonnabeslim1day's topic in Insurance & Financing
Mine was a straight $250.00 copay -
I think it depends on your insurance company. Mine had to be 6 CONSECUTIVE months or you had to start over. Hopefully, yours is not like that!!!

52 and wondering what to expect
NewBegin56 replied to KlassyKat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 56 and had my surgery 12/27/12. Like you, my main reason for the surgery was (hopefully) getting rid of diabetes, sleep apnea and high blood pressure. My diabetes has been bad enough that I've worn an insulin pump for the last 4 years (taking close to 150 units of insulin a day). Since my surgery, I have not had to wear my insulin pump (I occasionally have to inject 1-2 units of insulin, but not everyday) and I'm taking half the amount of pills for HBP. Don't lose sight of the prize - good health. Any loose skin will be well worth it!! -
No C-PAP Machine Following Surgry
NewBegin56 replied to kristikay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr didn't want me to use it the day of surgery, but it was okay after that. -
I was also on Metformin before surgery, but not now.

I had surgery 12/27. Prior to that I was taking taking 125-150 units of insulin a day via an insulin Pump. Since my surgery, I am not using the pump and take a unit of insulin if my blood sugar goes above 150. I've taken less than 20 units of insulin TOTAL since surgery. As I add additional food (I'm on pureed now), I might need a bit more insulin, but my Dr feels that the increased food and decreased weight will balance everything out and I'll be able to get completely off insulin.

Need help guys urgent

My Dr allows regular coffee once you're out of the hospital as long as you are staying hydrated. That's the main concern with caffeine. -
Going on vacation post-op
NewBegin56 replied to lmedalsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going on a cruise 4 days after I start back on 'real' food (5 1/2 weeks post-op). Checked with the Dr and he okayed it. I know I won't be able to eat like I used to on cruises - just small quantities of healthy food. -
I had mine on 12/27. Doing great so far.

I was sleeved on 12/27 and I haven't had any complications or buyer's remorse. Hope I don't.

Newly sleeved and just found these forums.
NewBegin56 replied to Symi's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to the forum! I was sleeved on December 27th, so I am still on clear liquids until tomorrow. I never thought I'd look so forward to protein shakes! I am very happy to have finally found a tool that can help me achieve success in my battle against the weight and diabetes. Best of luck to you. -

First Day Pre-op diet...what did you do?
NewBegin56 replied to Anume81's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started my liquid diet yesterday. Two days down, 12 to go. I'm trying to stay busy to keep my mind off it. Broth and Crystal Light seem to help. -
I use the Premier and EAS low carb ready made shakes. They're easy to take with me and if I'm at home, I blend them with some ice. I have the Nectar sample pack, but am not crazy about the foam, either.

When To Say Something At Work...
NewBegin56 replied to NurseMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the 6 month wait, as well. My surgery is scheduled for 12/27. As soon as I had a tentative dae, I told them I'd be out for surgery for 2 weeks. -
What Blender Is Best?
NewBegin56 replied to kristikay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought a Ninja 1500 - it comes with the 40oz, 72oz and single serve containers. I love it! -
I actually just bought the Ninja kitchen System and I love it. It is cheaper than the VitaMix (I bought the 1200watt system for $179 on the Ninja website). I haven't had my surgery yet, but I use it a lot for making fruit smoothies, etc.

Anyone Have Suggestions For A Liquid Diet?
NewBegin56 replied to LizTex2587's topic in Liquids (stage 1)
Is Unjury Chicken Soup considered a clear liquid or is it only for the 'full liquid' diet? -
Don't forget that everyone is different. The people losing 20-30 pounds during the prep may have a lot more weight to lose. Also - sometimes when your diet changes dramatically, your body may store Water. You might drop 2-3 pounds overnight once it settles down. The important thing is that you continue to follow the diet and don't freak out - in the end, the loss will be there. Good luck to you!!

Just Had My First Appointment
NewBegin56 replied to Jimbo_D's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My PCP wasn't supportive at all, so I found a new one that was. You need to have someone that understands and is supportive! -
I'm in Brevard County and Dr Allison is my doctor, too.
