    Protein shakes

I was using premium protein liquid until the last month. Now I am using powder Cytosport from Costco. The only way I can use the powered shakes is with my immersion blender. I have texture issues and my immersion blender takes care of this. I also add things to the shakes... cold decaf coffee or banana to the chocolate and frozen berries to the vanilla. I drink a shake with 54 grams of protein every morning.
  2. Bring shorts/ shirt, slippers, PBS. About 2 hours out of surgery I was in shorts and a T-shirt so when I was walking the halls I felt so much better. Also get up and walk as much as possible. It really helps! Good luck!
  3. Hi everyone ... I'm in Maryland Heights, was sleeved July of last year and looking for a buddy to continue this journey. There is a support group at Des Peres where I had my surgery but I am not a support group person. Let me know if you would like to chat.

I have also added 2 capsules of Hair, nails ans skin from Max muscle and have found the hair loss has slowed down. I my surgery was July 2012. Good luck!
  5. Dr Min in did my sleeve in July and I really liked him and everything about Des Peres hospital.

    St Louis Peeps

Looking for others who are here in St Louis that have recently been sleeved. My surgery was July 19 an just wanting to go through this transition with someone else that knows what I am going through. I will be going to try and try the support group at Des Peres hospital (where my surgery was) but I really do not want to walk into the room the first time by myself. And most people do not consider me shy but with this I am.
  9. I'm 5 weeks out and not hungry at all. I have to eat at normal meal times. The full feeling I feel that! If i eat more that my 1/2 cup (and it can be just 1bite) I feel it big time. Congrats and good luck! It will get better!

The Stuff They Don't Tell You

Another one that you do not know about before is not a physical thing is how often you have to have follow ups with your surgeon. I did not realize it is about once a month for the first 6 then every other month the next 6 then 1 or 2 times a year for another few years and that is not counting the visits with the nut (which mine has horribly short hours and not condusive to someone that works full time)

    Eating Out

I have one but WILL not use it. I have been eating out the last 2 weeks and either order off the regular menu and ask for a to go box when they bring my meal or I have also asked if I can order something off the childs menu but always have a back up item off the regular menu if they say no... with the explanatin that I am not really hungry and so far I have not been told no. My husband is a restaurant manager and he HATES the card since a doctor can not dictate how he does business. Just a thought, there are probably a lot of restaurants that feel the same way. I know most restaurants would rather let you order a smaller meal to keep you as a happy customer instead of a customer that will not come back and let others know what horrible treatment you received

    Back To Work Tomorrow!

Glad you had a good first day back! I know the worse part for me back to work was getting tired. People I work with were really great. They were happy to see me and just seemed to act like I was on a 2 week vacation.

    2Nd Day Back To Work..

I went back 1/2 days my first week back (2 1/2 weeks out) and back full time this week. I am exhausted! I think it is only natural with surgery and less calories than I'm used to. Good luck

    Timing Your Meals

I am almost 4 weeks po-op and a normal meal is about 4ounces. I am finding that a protein shake on the way to work, a mid morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner. I still do not eat anything after dinner. The last few days I have been able to take in 53 g protein and about 450 calories. Hope it helps

    Vitamins

I have shopped around. I get my regular vitamins gummies from Costco, the rest I am able to get from Medco cheaper than any other place.
  17. I had surgery 3 weeks ago today, I am back to work 1/2 days and come home and all I can do is take a 2 hour nap. Is anyone else going through this? And how can I break this? I have not exercised all week since I am exhausted!

    July Sleevers

I'm right there too. Today is 3 weeks and I am down 15 pounds. I weighed in today and only went down 1.6 pounds. I just keep telling myself it is normal since I added a bunch of new stuff this week for food. I know this will pass. Just need to keep positive it will happen. I know I just want me energy!

    A Few Questions.

I am 2 weeks post open and have found it takes me 3 sittings to get through an 11 oz protein shake. The book I got from the Dr suggested 4 oz shake for breakfast, popsicle for morning snack, broth for lunch, 4 oz shake for pm snack, jello for dinner then more shake before bed. That is the only way I have been able to get 11 oz shake in a day. Good luck sounds like you are doing great

    Diabetes & My Sleeve!

I too am praying for the sams GREAT results/news. I was sleeved 7/19 and do not go see my md until late Sept or early Oct for him to run my a1c. Fingers are crossed that the weight will melt off between now and then so he tells me the same good news. Congrats and keep it up!
  22. I am 9 days out from surgery and trying to see if I am on track. The first week I lost 8 pounds but that was all liquids. I guess now that I am adding more stuff to my diet just trying to see if I should expect this to continue or is 8 pounds only because I was on clear liquids?

    Tomorrow Is The Big Day

Good luck, I am 9 days out. Just remember to take comfy shorts and tops to wear at the hospital and as soon as you can get up and start walking. You will feel so much better faster.

    I'm Exhausted!

You may want to try and drink as much protein shake as possible since protein will give you energy. I found premium protein shakes, 30 g protein for the 11 oz shake instead of Adkins that only has 10 g protein. Good luck, it will get better.
