    My Surgery

Hi there. I remember those feelings very well. I also went to TJ and had Dr. Garcia and thought "What have I done". I still wanted a cheeseburger 3 days post op!!!! It probably took a good 3 weeks to not feel weird when I ate anything and the whole diet for the first 3 weeks sucks anyway. It isn't until I started eating "normal" food that I started to get into a groove. I am loving my sleeve now at 6 weeks out and have lost 38 pounds in total, so feel and look quite different already too! Hang in there....it does get better....but it takes time and patience. Just drink your protein shakes and give it some time. I promise you will feel differently in a few short weeks and you will also be a lot lighter! :-)
  2. Hi! I am almost 6 weeks out now and I had never had heartburn before the surgery. I had terrible heartburn for a few days after I started taking full fluids. I did not want to have it so I started taking omeprazole and it went away almost immediately. I took it for about 2-3 weeks and have not taken it for about a week and so far no problem. I think if you have trouble just take some over the counter medication like omeprazole (ask your doc what they recommend as there are many different kinds out there) and then see if it comes back when you stop. If it doesn't then you are good to go without it! Good luck!

    2 Week Stall

Hi! I had the same issue and what I did to break the stall was eat about 100 g protein, drink twice as much water (I was constantly drinking between meals....after waiting an hour of course) and walked my dogs more so I got more exercise! I also started lifting some small weights. 2 days of that and I lost 3 pounds! Give it a try!

    Small Portions At Restaurants

I received a card from my surgeon that explains that I had surgery that limits the amount of food I can eat and to please let me order a half portion from the menu and charge me accordingly. I haven't had to use it yet as I am still eating at home at 5 weeks out from surgery, but it will sure come in handy when I am ready to venture out there into the restaurant world in a few more weeks.

    Yippee!

Well I have to say that when the stall or plateau or whatever you want to call the period of time.....be in days or weeks.....when you don't lose.....finally tips and you start losing again.....it feels wonderful!!! I woke up this morning to a 3 pound weight loss. Now....what I did was just what you hear everyone else telling you to do......I drank more water for a few days......increased my protein and exercise.....and viola....that fat that was hanging on for dear life finally left the building! I am thrilled! I know there will be other stalls or plateaus....and I know what I will do to break it now too! I felt like I overate.....with the protein.....but I guess my body needed it! I can't eat like that every day though as it was right up there at 100 gr! Anyway thanks to all who gave advice and I listened and ti worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Hello All! For those who have reached their goal or almost reached their goal weight, I am interested in finding out about stalls during your journey. Can you please share how frequently you stalled and how long it lasted over the course of your weight loss journey. I am not going to compare or obsess about it....but I am just curious what it MIGHT look like. I am a little discouraged right now as I keep losing and gaining the same 1.5 pounds..... over the last few weeks. I KNOW the stall has to stop and weight loss be more consistent for a period of time.....and then another stall apparently.....with ups and downs......and just curious what to expect.....and what it has been like for others. I am not looking for a pep talk or any "It is will get better" type of encouragement as I am aware that it HAS to or I think I would be the only person in history to be stuck at the same weight for a year! So anyway...would love to hear things like.....I was stalled at 4-5 weeks for 3 weeks and then lost 25 pounds before I stalled again....then again for 2 weeks at a 60 pound weight loss.....etc....or something similar to this.....if you don't mind sharing this information. Thanks everyone for being such an inspiration to all of us who have recently joined the sleeve movement!! (I am only 5 weeks out, so I guess plenty of ups and downs are in my future.) It is funny because this is where I have ALWAYS gotten stuck......even pre-sleeve......and could never budget past this weight! Would give up....and gain ti all back. It kinda freaks me out and I can't wait to get past it but it sure does feel good to know that I will never climb back up again!! Thanks ahead of time to those who reply! I really appreciate your input on stalls!

    Questions For Successful Sleevers

Thanks all..... for your input. I am new to this and have heard the term "stall" used on this website. I don't care whether you call it a plateau or a stall or a red rubber duckie......we all know what it is and as we are doing the right thing and eating the appropriate food......it is still inevitable that we have periods where we don't lose weight. I know it is just the way our bodies are designed to survive. So for those that answered the question of "what did your stalls look like"......I appreciate it....so that I won't be freaked out by not losing for days or even weeks now, and still be hopeful that it will turn around. I think that looking at it from how much did I lose in a month is a good perspective......and at this early stage I am probably weighing too often. Thanks again for the advise and tips!

For Those Who Got To Eat Soft Foods Soon Out

According to my doctor, the "healing" phase takes 6 weeks and you should follow what your doctor and NUT has prescribed. I am starting my 5th week and eating alot of different foods now so it is much easier to get the protein in and have a variety. Those first 3 or 4 weeks were brutal......glad that is behind me and looking forward to introducing other menu items again after 6 weeks. Good luck!

Will This 3 Week Stall Ever End?

Hi...I had my surgery on July 4th, so just a few days after you and I am also stalled since Thursday, so one week now. Isn't it hard to believe that we can eat as little as we are eating and our body's are still hanging on for deaqr life to that fat we so desperately want to get rid of! I guess when you think about it.....we wouldn't be healthy if our bodies didn't go into survival mode when we lost a large amount of weight quickly. People say this passes and then happens again over and over on this weight loss journey......but my pessimistic thoughts creep in and I think....this is probably all I will lose.......or....why can I never GET PAST A 30 POUND WEIGHT LOSS on any diet in my LIFE so far......it is always my stall point.....but I guess we don't have a choice now to go and sabatoge the progress....... So...cheers....here I am holding up my water and saying hang in there. Let's check back with each other in a few weeks and see if we have moved onward......and downward! :-)

    4 Weeks Out And Stalled

Hi.....I am at 3 weeks, 30 pounds lost and have hit the stall too. I guess it is the normal reaction our body has to losing so much weight so quickly. It is called homeostasis. Our bodies think that it has to conserve the fat because it has lost so much so quickly. From what I understand the weight loss will start again.....and it can't be too soon for me because I really don't like eating the foods we have to eat and not being able to eat "normally"....whatever that is anymore. My stomach still hurts when I eat....like it is too full...even with a few tablespoons......so wish that would stop too! Are you having that? When does that go away? Anyway I am right there with ya.....and anybody who has an idea when things get back to some semblance of normalcy....please chime in!

  15. Thanks so much for sharing. You look fantastic and that smile is ear to ear! I can't wait to feel that way too. Now...you would be a great person to ask these questions: What is your least favorite thing about the sleeve? You said it "can still be a pain sometimes"....in what way? Do you feel like you can go out and eat, drink and be merry without worrying or feeling like a freak? I am in week 2....almost 3, so a far cry from where you are at. Right now I can hardly get in the Protein...hate the taste of the shakes....and get sooooooo full with 3-4 ounzes!! People say it gets better.....well WHEN exactly? Week 6? Did you lose any hair? What is your favorite thing about the sleeve? How wonderful do you feel on a scale of 1-10. Ok...that should about do it! Thanks in advance......and you are such an inspiration!

    It's A New Day...

    Missing 'real Food" Terribly

Hi All, I just started week 2 post op from a VSG. I have to tell you that I am feeling a little freaked out that I still crave and desire REAL food, the same way that I did pre-operatively. I am told that magically this feeling goes away, but that is not happening here at my house! After the starvation diet of clear fluids for a week post op, and really wanting a cheeseburger, more than anything else in the world, the full fluids are really not doing it for me either!! I can't believe that it is going to take MONTHS before I can eat REAL FOOD???? I will be a crazy person by then if the desire for the taste and textures of real food, that you chew and swallow, does not subside!!!!!!! Somebody? Anybody? who is 3-4-5 weeks out....what are you really eating...... Also please tell me when I can have a BITE of a cheeseburger again.....that is all I really want....just one bite. From what my dietary notes say from my doctor.....4 months for beef???????? Are you kidding me??? HELP!!!

    Missing 'real Food" Terribly

Thanks everyone! I do not want to risk causing a tear or a leak by eating food I should not, but it is rather daunting when you think of it in terms of how long it is before you can eat certain foods. That IS the reason why I needed the surgery, as I never said "no" to myself for anything I wanted. That makes this phase especially difficult, as MOST things are off limits. I am plodding along...had a few spoonfuls of the noodles from the chicken noodle soup today.....and felt REALLY full afterwards. It was good for me to do that as it gave me an idea of how it is going to feel to actually eat something and it made me realize I have to take things slowly and do what is asked of me this week as far as the diet goes. Don't get me wrong I still dream of eating that cheeseburger.......but I am going to try to follow the plan.....and eat soft and easy to digest things like the noodles in the soup....if I can't take it!

16 Months Post Op With Pic

Wow...you look like a completely different person! I be you feel like one too! You are such an inspiration! Thank you for posting your story and the pictures as I can see that, with time, I can achieve my goal as well. I am only 8 days post op....so have a bit of a journey still! Ha! I hope you don't mind me asking, and if you don't want to answer...that is cool.....but did you have any plastic surgery to deal with the loose skin? If so.....are you happy with it and where did you have it done? Congratulations on such an incredible change and new life!
