I would love just to be able to buy 'normal' clothes. No Lane Bryant, no Avenue, no granny clothes, just... something from the Gap or American Eagle or any of those brands that we of size are basically forbidden to wear. I'd like the experience of choice and availability instead of being brought to frustrated tears trying to cobble together something I can wear to an interview from three racks of grudgingly offered mumus.

Yeah, PCOS here. Stubborn inability to lose weight using the 'typical methods,' hair under my chin that I shave to keep in check, night sweats that have me greeting the morning in a puddle, periodic hot flashes and a general intolerance to humidity. I went almost a year without a period, although my cycle seems to be trying to correct itself now that I've been losing weight. Sort of. (Although I am a bit terrified that once I'm banded and weight loss speeds up that I'm going to be hit with the tidal floodwaters of the Red Sea.)

I giggled. Hm... I wonder if I can scare the dogs...

Soup Soup And Soup !!

Love Egg Drop Soup and Hot & Sour Soup. Question on that, I've seen people talk about straining it, couldn't you just dump it right into the blender instead? That way you'd keep all the veggies, the egg, etc and make it drinkable. Anyone tried this and have feedback on whether it works or not? -
And You Shall Feel No Pain... (Funny Soup Recipe)
deleted_opal posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So, I was cruising around the net looking for recipes for things to eat post-surgery. One of my favorite Soups is French Onion and so I was wondering if you could make that smooth-style. Anyway, in the course of looking, I happened across this: http://liveinthevineyard.com/lisas-now-famous-french-onion/ Now, I'm sure it's good, it sounds good... but wouldn't you be too far gone to tell? lol. -

Anyone Have Problems With Sushi Our Oysters?
deleted_opal replied to sharklove82's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As far as taking small bites, my thought is ask for a sharp knife? With rolls, set them on their edge and simply slice it into thinner 'disks.' (Actually if you are at the bar and the chef is friendly, he might be willing to slice the roll more thinly to begin with.) With nigiri, chop it into bite-sized portions. Might be a little fiddly, but easier than trying to bite off a piece. If you're nervous about asking for a knife, slip one into your purse. Seaweed you are probably going to have to chew the heck out of. Alternatively, go with something that is wrapped in rice and rolled in fish roe. I can't imagine the small roe causing a problem? -
Hi there, Newbie here, pre-op, but I've been gathering together Lap-band friendly recipes on a Pinterest board. I thought I'd share and ask for input? New links are always welcome and I will add! http://pinterest.com...p-band-recipes/

Hi there, I am Jennifer or Jenn. 35 year-old female, single and working as a computer technician. I've been overweight my entire life and made a couple of attempts to get healthy with varying success. For a long time I steered well clear of WLS, but sometime last year as I heard more about the lap-band, my attitude changed. I think part of it is my perception that there is less re-plumbing going on, that there is more flexibility with the band (i.e. that it can be tightened or loosened as needed) and that the procedure is laparoscopic. My goals are not attached to numbers-- I don't have a perfect weight in mind. I want to be able to go shopping with my friends and not have to stop off at the fat girl store. I want to be more confident socially, I don't want to be single my entire life. I want to board a plane, sit down comfortably, buckle up and not wonder if they might toss me off. I want to go to Six Flags and ride all the rides. I want to ride horses and not worry the poor thing is going to collapse under me. lol. When I'm ready, I want to get pregnant. (I have PCOS) I don't want to be a diabetic, I don't want to die young, and I'm tired of being a statistic. That's why I'm here. I tend to be a bit of a lurker, although I will speak up when I feel I have something interesting to add. So, the journey thus far... went to my first seminar back in February. From there went to a first appointment a few weeks later. Waited almost two months to hear about insurance and it turns out mine requires the doctor to be at a Bariatric Center of Excellence. Okay, time to start over. Procrastinated a bit, but finally went to another seminar in June, this time for Dr. Ronnie Keith at Oklahoma Weight Loss Options. (I'm in OK in case that didn't tip you off. ) Requirements met, insurance gave prelim approval, and I went in for my first appointment on July 11th. Being very efficient souls, they also got me in to see the dietician that same day. Now I am journaling what I eat, sampling the Protein shakes a few times a week, and have my second dietician appointment, my psych appointment and an EKG scheduled for July 31st. Oh, and I'm supposed to go bleed somewhere in there. Things are getting real. I'm a little nervous, but excited.

Anyone Have Problems With Sushi Our Oysters?

I am hoping sushi will work for me, too. Nervous about how I will react to rice post-band. Although, keep in mind that if you like the raw fish (I do) that sashimi should be fine, as well as miso soup. Once you've established that you're okay with rice, you might start with a few pieces of nigiri. (pieces of fish on top of small rice balls)
