I take hctz (water pill) for high blood pressure. I asked my PCP when I would be going off of it and he said you won't. Has anyone taken this after surgery? Did it increase your risk for dehydration? I'm still preop but thought I would go off of this before my 2 week preop liquid diet. My nut also mentioned this at my appt. I am going to ask my surgeon but wondered if anyone has any info here. Thanks

Hello Everyone: I am 4 1/2 years out from gastric bypass and am experiencing weight gain. It didn’t just start and I know it’s because of how I am eating. I have gained about 25 pounds from my lowest weight since surgery and need to get back on track. Head hunger is the problem. I am back on this site for support and advice. Any words of wisdom to combat the head hunger? Fortunately I still dump if I eat too much sugar but unfortunately I have no problem eating carbs.

I have FEP bc/bs standard option and the process went very smoothly. I did have to meet with someone for the supervised part. I can't remember for sure but I think it was 3 times. I had my surgery in 2013. Good luck on your journey! I think my unsuccessful attempts were proven through my PCP records. -
Is this realistic after rny?
mitzie46 replied to Sajijoma's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Goodwill is my go to place. Very early on I also bought a "goal" sweater. Looking at it then, I never thought It would fit. I tried it on periodically. It was so motivating to see it come closer to fitting along the way. I was so excited the day I was able to wear it. Good luck on your journey! -
Surgery 8/3, and I'm Hungry!
mitzie46 replied to kadydid86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I remember that well! I kept thinking the surgery didn't work. It was head hunger. Hang in there and wait it out. You will be in the next phase before you know it:). I agree with daisee68. Try to distract yourself. Head hunger is a challenge for many of us. -
I'm almost 2 years out and am holding steady within 4 pounds. I really want to lose about 16 more pounds. I am also afraid of gaining the weight back. I thought about going back to protein shakes with some salads to try to jump start. I know many people have done a 5 day pouch test. I am also consider in this as an option. Good luck!

Pre-op liquid diet: How did you get through?
mitzie46 replied to wolfie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It seemed to get bet better as time went on. I tried to focus on the reasons why I was doing it and kept reminding myself that many others have done it and I can too. I looked forward to the salads. I was allowed lettuce and cucumbers with balsamic vinegar. The broth also helped fill me up. Good luck, we will save you a place on the loser's bench! -
I came here to post about this issue and saw your thread. I am 18 months out and started having issues about 6 months ago. My fasting blood sugar was 65. I did not have any issues before the surgery. Last night I started feeling bad and went to check my blood sugar and could not see to prick my finger. My husband, who is diabetic, checked it for me and it was 33! It has never been that low and I was very scared. I'm glad I was not alone. I had a couple of 50s before but never this low. I have a call into my PCP and my surgeon's office. The dietician told me before that if I continued to have problems I may have to eat more frequently up to every hour! I don't know how I could manage this as I work full time. I am waiting to talk to her again. Has anyone had this issue and then had it go away? I am really worried. Thanks

Onn occasion have you taken NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, naproxen or aspirin Motrin® , Aleve®, Alka-seltzer®
mitzie46 replied to Homecie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Talk with your doctor. I was warned multiple times to not take any NSAIDS and to make sure my other medical providers knew that. Prior to the surgery I took meloxicam on a daily basis for years. -
Call your doctor. I waited too long and ended up in the er with a severe bowel impaction. Now I take stool softeners and miralax early on when I start having problems. I hope you get relief soon.

Hang in there. I felt that same way in the beginning and had serious buyer's remorse. Now I am over 1 year out loving life! It will get better.

I took 4 weeks off and have a sit down job. I probably could have gone back after 3 weeks but I had a couple of issues. I honestly don't think I could have gone back any earlier because I was way too tired. Little things would wipe me out. Good luck on your journey.

Crystal light will be your friend post op too but only the ones without caffeine. Good luck on your journey.

What does your surgeon's office say? That doesn't make sense. You demonstrated you can follow the plan. I would not have needed the surgery if I could have steadily lost weight. Is there an appeal process?

It happened to me in the beginning and I also got extremely upset. Don't worry, it will go back down. The stalls were frustrating too but now I just try to roll with it.

Did anyone begin shopping prior to surgery? By this I mean, looking for clothes in smaller sizes in anticipation of losing? How do people keep up with their change in size? I did not buy smaller sizes before surgery, but I did buy a sweater in my " goal" size after surgery. I can fit into it now even though I am not at goal. I would try it on periodically to show me how close I was getting. This really helped when the scale wasn't moving but I was losing inches. I now have an addiction to Goodwill, and will buy clothes that are smaller sizes. It doesn't break the bank, and I don't have to panic when my pants are about to fall down .

One little pearl of wisdom ...
mitzie46 replied to ChristyAZ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great advice. I also quit caffeine before my 2 week preop diet. I didn't want to go through the withdrawal when I was recovering. Good luck to everyone on your journeys. -
This is really my only issue. I take stool softeners and miralax when needed. Ironically I had the opposite issue prior to surgery. Please don't let it go too long. Earlier in my journey, I ended up in the er with a severe bowel impaction. I never want to go through that again. My surgery practice said I could take miralax every day. Good luck!

is it weird or should I be greatful?
mitzie46 replied to ChristyAZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not had those issues either. However my hunger came back. It took awhile but it came back. Be careful with the caffeine. I am over 1 year out and still do not drink it. -

RNY caused me to lose my friends
mitzie46 replied to jtickle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I agree with go walking. They probably were never your friends. This appears to be quite common. I feel very lucky to have not had this experience. Here's to hoping you find new true friends very soon! -
I'm 5'5" , 370# which surgery?
mitzie46 replied to MichelleTN's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Beachgurl84 My GERD is gone. I still take omeprazole but I honestly don't think I need to. Preop my gerd was pretty bad, and my surgeon thought the sleeve would make it worse. He said that rny can cure gerd for some people. It did for me. I take my Vitamins faithfully but honestly it is not a big deal. I am off my c-pap, asthma medication, and blood pressure medication. I cant believe how much life I was missing before this surgery. It is the best decision I have ever made health wise. -
I'm 5'5" , 370# which surgery?
mitzie46 replied to MichelleTN's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had wanted the sleeve but my surgeon would not do it bc of GERD. After talking with him, I felt comfortable with the bypass. I am 1 year out and have no regrets. Good luck on your journey whichever surgery you decide. -
