Surgery set for next Friday 8/31!! Hospital has to confirm in the morning but it should be good. So excited! Not however excited about the gas and other effects (ahem) of the Bariatric Advantage meal replacement powder. It's going to be a long 8 days...

I actually found it quite helpful. I thought it was going to be lame, but got great ideas/info! -

So, something's bothering me. When I went in today to pick up my meal replacement stuff, a woman 9 mos. post-op came in raving about her gastric bypass. When I told her I was getting a sleeve she said "don't do that. Get the bypass". I told her I didn't want to deal with the dumping syndrome and malabsorption issues. She said she chose bypass because she needed a fail safe where she physically could not eat "bad" foods. I said again that I thought sleeve was the best option for me. She very sarcastically said "good luck with that.". As the night is going on, it's starting to mess with my head. Should I be getting the bypass, not the sleeve? And on and on in my head. What worries me about the sleeve is that I can still (theoretically) in time eat all foods. Is this going to be a downfall for me? I dont want to be that person that gains weight back but part of me doesnt trust myself. Ive failed over and over on diets. Im worrying that im going to eat around the sleeve and fail. I hate that I'm second guessing myself now and really irritated that someone would say something as rude as inappropriate as that to someone a week before surgery. What do you guys think? Needing some reassurance that I'm choosing the right surgery and that I CAN do this!

I've never heard of biotin spray. Where do you buy it? -

Anyone interested in meeting, message me with your email address and I'll try to get a group together for coffee. Or tea. Or whatever.

Not yet. It hasn't worked out. How about this: message me your email address if you're interested and I'll try to get something organized. I just talked to insurance and they said they are sending a letter to my surgeon that I am "conditionally approved". I hope that means I'm a go!

I'm getting nervous I won't be approved. It was a week today since they sent my paperwork. I know they say it can be up to 30 days but I keep reading posts where BCBSIL approves in a couple days to a week. I found out I do NOT have sleep apnea, so I don't really have any comorbidities - just slightly elevated blood pressure and a BMI of 42.7 :/ anxious.

Things I Cant Wait For People To Not Say...
LawDiva312 replied to gelen's_change's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been dating my boyfriend for 10 years. He's African-American, I'm white. We've been together through thick and thin literally. I've lost significantly and regained, he was heavy when we met and is now super-healthy and fit (yay!). An older relative once made a comment "If you lost weight you could find a white man to date." While I don't believe this person is racist or prejudiced - just an old school mentality of "marry someone like you", it infuriated me that the thought was "black men like bigger women. No white guy would want to be with her." Needless to say, I'm with my partner for the man he is, not the color of his skin. I just wonder how many people see us together and think that stereotype - "there goes another black guy with a fat white girl". -

I went for a massage once when I was around 240 lbs. The woman acted like she didn't want to be touching me - (you know how when you ask someone for a massage and they just rub you really lightly because they don't want to do it). So I asked her to push harder and she said "well you have a lot of adipose here. I can't get any deeper." I was mortified. (talked to the manager the next day and they have me a complimentary massage with a fabulous masseuse.). I'm now at 275 and waiting for insurance approval. Haven't been for a massage in years. Can't wait to go back! -

I will not miss... Being the fattest girl in the room, Wincing when I get on an elevator full of people -cuz sometimes elevators dip down a little when people get on, Telling my friends I don't want to go to Great America when I'd really love to but know damn well I won't fit on the rides, Snoring like a chain saw, Going shopping with my friends but only being able to look at jewelry and bags, Feeling self-conscious in the grocery check out line, Squeezing myself into as small of a ball as I can on airplanes, Being out of breath doing daily activities, Always sitting shotgun when in a car with others because I'm too fat to squeeze in the back seat with 2 others. I can't WAIT to start my new life!

Hey all! Got into the dietician early (woo-hoo!), went to the pulmunologist today, going to the cardiologist Thursday, then have my sleep study Friday. Then I'm done with everything will just have to get BCBS approval. I'm so excited! I'm in whenever you guys want to get together. Kat - did you have the surgery at St. Alexius or Alexian Brothers? Anyone else go to either of those places, and how was it?
