No, micronutrients sometimes only exist in REAL food. Also, things like Fiber to help your digestive system wont be found in Protein shakes. Existing on only Protein supplements would keep your body in Ketosis. Prolonged ketosis is bad on your kidneys. Your body will begin to burn fat for energy, which is good; but this is the result of a complete lack of carbohydrates, which is bad. Most medical resources regard ketosis as a physiological state associated with chronic starvation. Glucose is regarded as the preferred energy source for all cells in the body with ketosis being regarded as a crisis reaction of the body to a lack of carbohydrates in the diet. Ketosis would thus be a dangerous state which unnecessarily stresses the liver and causes destruction of muscle tissues. This is still the view of the majority in the medical and nutritional science communities, although in recent years it has been challenged by a number of doctors and adherents of low-carbohydrate diets, who dispute both the body’s preference for glucose and the dangers associated with ketosis. Just no NSAIDS, i take oxycontin SR for my back pain, and muscle relaxers are okay, like valium or Xanax. I know for back pain. Good luck with bulging discs. Sometimes they will shrink back. Be very gentle, and try and rest.

Awesome. Keep up the good work.

The member Lee had her surgery at Kaiser Richmond by Dr. Baggs. You might want to PM her for information about that center. I had mine done at Kaiser So. San Francisco. Sorry I don't know about Dr. Fisher, but I can say that Kaiser has a good and thorough program. I did do a search and found the Lee made a comment in one of her posts that Dr. Baggs and Dr. Fisher double up in OR. Hoper that helps, but definetley contact Lee

Everyone has given you good advice. Try to get the liquids and liquid proteinds down. hopfully you are on Prilosec or something. That will help your hunger and any antacid. Try walking. I hope you feel better.

You've done your research. Try not to be nervous. You will be fine. We'll save you a seat on the losers bench.

Speak up those with leaks & infections!
lmmore replied to Can.sleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really don't think this will be the case with this surgery, for a number of reasons. One, the digestive track works just as it did before. Two, this procedure isn't as new as insurance companies have claimed. The DS has been performed for close to 25 years, and they have had no adverse affects. This procedure is in essence the first half of the DS. Third, if for some reason some peoples stomach stretch, there is always the RNY to fall back on. For once I am not worried about a procedure. Awsome weight loss. I use this forum as my support group as well. Most everyone is very supportive, and even those who aren't, are trying to do the best thing for you. It's pretty great. Welcome to the losers bench.

Are you taking and acid reducer like Prilosec, or nexium, etc. They reduce the hunger pangs. Sometimes it's not even hunger, it's acid reflux that feels like hunger. I had a little hunger the first few days, but it went away. I hope you feel better.

You won't need much, you'll be home before you know it. Best of luck to you. -
It is for acid, and also reduces the appetite. You can buy over the counter, Prilosec, nexium, etc. The active ingredient is Omeprazole 20mg.

I wasn't trying to be bitchy at all. I was trying to be supportive by suggesting someone go with her. Mexico is a dangerous place these days, whether your having surgery or not.

Bowels anyone have issues?
lmmore replied to kalew's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To prevent constipation: • Drink large amounts of clear, sugar-free liquids • Exercise, stay active • Try baby food prunes or juice (low sugar) • Try applesauce (low sugar), or an apple • Try oatmeal • Reintroduce fruits and vegetables in your diet If constipation persists, try a daily fiber supplement. A new fiber supplement, BeneFiber™, has become available which completely dissolves in water (no glob). Try this first, otherwise Fibercon™ pills, Metamucil™, Citrucel™ or Milk of Magnesia are also available. Usually you will require 15 to 20 gm of fiber per day to become regular, after reduce regular use to 10 to 15 gm per day or every other day to stay regular. -
You;re going to Almanza alone! Ey Yi Yi, can you find a family member who would go with you. I'lls say prayers for you.

It's funny because I think Muscle Milk should be called Mucky Milk, just liike people call ISOPURE, ISOPUKE. That's why it's good to try these things to see what you can tolerate. I am fine with ISOPURE drinks, and PURE PROTEIN 35 g frosty choclate shakes, but no, no, no for the Muscle Milk. Also, I find flavors i liked or dsiliked pre surgery, often changed post surgery. So, it gets down to findin what works for you.

What BMI are you? It seems odd that your insurance would not cover you at 35 BMI with the co-morbidities you have. If they would cover you, you wouldnt' have to go and take the risk. Wishing you the best of luck. Oh, and have you seen TiffanyisMajor's YouTube videos at your clinic? They are under MyChunkyChannel.....there are about 4 or 5 worth watching.

Sleeved & Swelling...
lmmore replied to gatormomof2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try walking to get rid of some of the gas. It helps. The broth is a good idea. If you cannot drink it full strength, dilute it with water. Good luck. -
Bowels anyone have issues?
lmmore replied to kalew's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Use something like Benefiber daily, you can put it in your protein drink. If I went as long as you have, I would use a laxative (not to be used on a regular basis). Good luck -
Good for you!
