  1. No one has noticed that I eat smaller portions, when I go out with friends. Just eat slow, which you are supposed to do anyways, and stop when you're full. The hardest thing with going out, is to stop yourself from over doing eat (trying to eat too much). Tonight I am going out for Father's Day, and we're having mexican food. i will order a chicken enchilada with beans a rice. I will most likely eat the chicken out of the enchilada with just a few bites of the tortilla. I will eat some beans, and just a few bites of rice. When done I will order a doggy bag. It's very simple. I have asked my friends before, if they ever noticed how little I ate, and they responded in the negative. It made me feel better knowing that I wasn't making their dinner uncomfortable.
  2. Stomach surgery is a good answer. I am with Grateful Heart, Ialways tell the truth. This is nothing to be ashamed of. If anything, the exact opposite. I am proud I did this to regain my life back. Best of luck
  3. Chrissy, I am not a nurse, but sorry a PPI is a Protein Pump Inhibitor. Prilosec or Nexium ect. will stop acid production in your stomach. Most doctors prescibe one after this procedure. That's why I asked if you are on one or not. You can get it over the counter if needed. Active ingredient is 20MG omeprazole. best of luck
  4. According to our expert Dr. Jossart: " The answers to these questions are dependent on surgeon experience. These are good questions and you should ask these of your surgeon. In general, leak rates with the sleeve occur from less than 1% up to 5%. Thay may also be more common in reoperations such as band removals. The only thing a patient can do to help avoid leaks is to stay on liquids for 2-3 weeks after surgery. The rest is dependent on technique and tissue quality. " and, "The staples are very small and are eventually coated with fibrous scar tissue. They can slowly migrate over years or decades but this does not matter because the staple line is healed within a few weeks. " and, "The staples are very small and are eventually coated with fibrous scar tissue. They can slowly migrate over years or decades but this does not matter because the staple line is healed within a few weeks. " I suggest you read his answers in the "ask Dr. Jossart" section of the forum. He has good answers on every area. Almost as good as Tiff ha ha
  5. Don't do it..... Stay fat! On the other hand, if you do decide to do it, follow the rules. This is your opportunity to get your life back. You won't get it back if you don't follow the rules and change your attitude. Best of luck.
  6. Yes, it sounds normal. The first few days are tough. Try walking, that sometimes helps, and when you sip, try not to sip in any air. Burping is good. Burping will help relieve some of the pressure you are feeling. My stomach still gurgles sometimes, but at the beginning there were all kinds of noises with whatever went in. Are you on a PPI, that helps? If you get worse contact your doctor. But I would say that you were not expecting to feel anything after the operation, and this is what it is like. It gets better every day. I felt lousy for a week and a half. I think we all have a hard time drinking liquids at the begining. Best of luck.
  7. The truth is always the best option. It is good for you personally, and could also be helpful in educating others. It always bothered me when Starr Jones didn't tell and acted like she just cut back on her eating. baloney.
  8. Hey Guy, good for yoU! Keep up the good work and you'll reach goal before you know it.
  9. WOW! Awesome.......keep up the good work!
  10. I just use a salad plate, and fill it 3/4 full of whatever three items are on the plate. Bento plate sounds like over kill to me. But you know, what ever works for you.
  11. Call your doctor, or go to the ER. You need to get all your protein in. And, you need to have all your liquids to stay hydrated. Are you on a PPI? That would stop any acid reflux. Also, hopefully you haven't been eating food yet......what have you been surviving on in the last five days?
  12. I had surgery in So. SF, and I had to lose between 20 and 25 lbs. I managed 22 lbs. I think this may depend on you age, wt, doctor, etc. I had my surgery by Dr. David Le, and he is very good. Everyone has a private room. Best of luck. Les

    Reading Protein Powder labels

Jeez Will, you practically live up at the artic. What's a gay boy doing up there? Still suggest buying your basics online......they won't go to waste. You can then try to go to a GNC when you're in San Diego (assuming that's where you're flying to) and that should get you by until your shipment arrives. Good luck, Les
  14. I went through Kaiser So. San Francisco, and they had to talk me out of the band and into the sleeve. I am so glad they did. I am very happy with the sleeve. One thing about Kaiser in the bay area, is that they hand out a binder with all the necessary vitamin and food recommendations. I don't know if they do that down in So. Calif. But on this site their are good threads on nutrition. I really got more from this site. My only suggestion is that you have a good protein drink that you can tolerate. I use ISOPURE flavored drinks 40 G protein, but many here call it ISOPUKE. I can understand why, since it is sooo tart, like lemons, but I can handle it fine. I also use the premade Pure Premium Frosty Chocolate 35 g protein. heated like hot cocoa in the mornings. Both are available at GNC. But check out the protein threads for other people's favorites. It's all a personal choice on what you can tolerate. Also, KEEP hydrated after surgery. Drink those liquids.
  15. Welcome. My partner can eat like that and remain thin as well, but he understands, and is very supportive. Best of luck on your surgery. Have you considered Aceves at all? He seems to have a good rep.
  16. I think tiffy posted an xray where the stomach after four years stretched out..........but it was still small (from the size of a dime, to the size of a nickel. You don't stretch back to a regular stomach, that I know of. And, as has been mentioned, this is only a procedure that is a tool for us to use. People can gain weight if the abuse it. 3 or 4 oz of high calorie carbs everyday, 3 times a day, otta sabotage it pretty easily.

    Tips?

JerryVic gave you good advice on how to eat slow. I would add that if you get queasy to get up and walk around. I then take a small sip of water, and that helps. I think the water lets the pyloric valve open and release some of the food into the small intestines. Anyway, try it, it works for me. Although I do do try to eat slow, and recognize when i am full, so it has only happened to me twice. Good luck.
  20. Go back to your doctor Driver. Don't wait until August. You don't want to mess with recovery. Wow......90 lbs., look at you! I hope you're back on track soon.
  21. I add about an oz of ocean spray white cranberry to water. That;s the way i have to drink it

    35 lbs down!

Good for you! Keep on doin what your doin. It;s working for you. Congrats.
  23. I notice the insids of my tummy all the time. How it feels depends on what I have or have not eaten. Yesterday I felt icky and uncomfortable. But I was sure it was because i ate too much. I had turkey, vegies and mash potatoes in small amounts, but it felt heavy. when i woke up this morning it still felt heavy, and unfortunetlye i had to get ready pretty quickly. I made the mistake of taking all my meds at once on an empty stomach, and then went from feeling icky, to weak and tired. I could barely finish my shower without have to rest. i took a nap. woke up an hour later and felt great. The way i see it, is that I am two months out and my stomach has not settled down yet. It will, but not just yet. At night I take a half an ambien if needed to help. and i am usually comfortable. tonight i feel good. I hope some if this helps. i know i am just rambling.
  24. No NSAIDS while your healing. oxycontin SR is good , but may be over kill for your pain. I was told not to use percocet or vicodin. While my stomach heals. best of luck
