What to do to pass the time?
lmmore replied to eriadne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Start practicing eating without your water or liquids, and then waiting 30 minutes to drink again. Practice chewing each bite 25 times before swallowing. It makes it easier if you get into these habits right away. -
I'm with LAN2k, avoid the soda. It's bad for you and your tummy. If you are eating and drinking things that are not recommended, then that me be part of the problem. I am only a month out, but what I have found is that at this point I don't worry about what is breakfast, lunch or dinner food. I just eat something that gets me my protein. This may be a horrible suggestion, but Pork Rinds break down easily and are full of protein. Also, a small amount of pistachios are a great source of protein. shredded chicken salad may be good. Look through the recipes on this site and see if any appeal to you. I can eat Italian sausage now, if I take it out of it's skin......i find ways to get flavors that I like. Best of luck

Actual Pct. of Excess Weight Lost?
lmmore replied to ouroborous's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good question because most surgeons say 60 to 80 percent of excess weight. But most people seem to meet their goal weights in less then 9 months. That is what I am hoping for. I will be interested in other responses. -
You should be fine. Try not worry, it happens so fast. How long you are in the hospital depends on you surgeon. Most can leave after a day or day and a half. I was in for 3 days. Some people return to their jobs in a week. I would not have been strong enough after 3 weeks. So, again it just depends. It's good that you have been learning from this site. Be prepared to have your protein and mushies at home, so that you get sustenance in you quickly. Try and drink as much liquids as you can. The first week is the hardest, but every day gets better. Best of luck

Reclaiming the years "Obesity" tried to take from me, one day at a time.

Best of luck to you. -
Nope. I love Dreamfields, although I don't have it very often. I eat mainly the meat, mushrooms, etc. and just a little of the noodles, but I have never had a problem with the carb fest.

I have never been able to comfortably drink alot of plain water. I add just a touch of white cranberry to make it palatable. Drinking alot of plain water, for some reason, gives me heartburn. And I take Prilosec, so go figure.

Post -op liquid question
lmmore replied to CoachKK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you should be drinking 64 oz of liquids. Isopure and shakes are the way to get your protein in. And, it is hard to do the first week. You get better at it the second week, as your stomach heals. -
What a difference a month makes.....
lmmore replied to wannalise's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don't fell bad. Nobody gets down everything the give you. I could only eat the jello and a few tablespoons of broth. oh and sipped water. But, I wasn't hungry either. -
I used to have a very nice package. When I got heavy it seemed to shrinks inside my abdomen. I thought it was going to be forever like that, you know just getting older. But after the weight loss, it has come back just like before, and i get the morning woody's again. So i guess this was an extra plus that I hadn't even planned on.

It depends on a number of things. what you eat, how much, etc. my docotr said to take for at least 6 months and then see if i don't need it. I think He indicated that some people have to take forever. but I am not sure on that. In any event, it helps curb any hunger, that's for sure.

Nature's Best Isopure Protein Drinks
lmmore replied to sickofrollercoaster's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Yes, those globs will stir out, and they are the whey protein isolate. You will hear people who like them like me. They are like a tart starburst Kool Aid. Not too bad, better than the shakes. But others can't stomach them. I hope you do well with them, since they pack 40 G protein a bottle and zero carbs. I drink a half a bottle every day, to add to my protein sources. Good luck. -
New and different case
lmmore replied to JillianMarie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It doesn't sound like you have the BMI for this surgery. 30 lbs. is nothing. You writing to people who are 100, 200, 300, and 400 lbs overweight. Go on the Atkins diet. you'll lose the thirty pounds. If you practice high portein, low carbs, and low calories, with your activity you will lose weight. -
I just brushed my teeth alot )

If you do not trust this forum, then read up on the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. Google it. When you hear people on this forum talking about hunger, it probably is not even hunger. It's hard to explain but you can go all day without eating and not be really hungry. It's not hunger like before surgery at all. Also, different surgeons have different eating preferences. some keep people on liquids longer than others. it probably keeps from irritating your newly sculpted stomach. My surgeon let me have jello, pureed food, and yougurt, soups, etc a week after surgery. Two weeks after I could have soft food like lunch meat and hamburger, etc. I am not on dense meats yet, i have to wait another month or two. But do exactly what you surgeon wants from you, no matter which surgery you choose. The sleeve is great because you have a normal albeit smaller stomach, so you absorb more protein, minerals, etc. But it's your choice.

What a difference a month makes.....
lmmore replied to wannalise's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I did not vomit. I felt nausea the first week. Almost vomitted a couple of times from eating too much, and the food smells. I had a heightened sense of smell and taste the first week. I removed anything that smelled good or bad and then put everything back a week later. This doesn't happen to everyone. Everyone is different, and what ever issues you may have after surgery, they will all go away before you know it. -
New to the site!!...Excited to be here!!
lmmore replied to jennbeth72's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on everything. You can make it through this, just follow the directions. I cheated the week before my surgery and had a big pasta meal, but that's just me. Don't worry about the pasta, in a few months you can eat Dreamfields pasta, and it surprising tastes and feels like the real stuff, except it is low carb. As for Protein Shakes, you have a lot of choices. If you want a lot of protein, The ISOPURE protein drink which is flavored water like a tart Kool Aid. You can get that at GNC. It has 40 Grams of protein. For a shake, there is a premade Pure Protein Frosty Chocolate with 35 grams of protein. I warm it up in the morning and it tastes just like hot cocoa. Bet everyone here has there own preferences. you have to find what works for you. I agree most of the shakes are Yucka. -
Also, the food needs to stay in you stomach as long as possible to absorb the protein and vitamins, etc. Water flushes the food right through your system. It's very important to NOT drink while you eat, and wait at least 30 minutes minimum.

VSG on 5-4-10..How bad does it hurt?
lmmore replied to HeavyT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think guys feel more pain than women. After all they are built to manage the pain of child birth. I was in pain for a couple of days, but the gave me medication for it. I really felt like a had the noro virus for about a week. That was the hard part for me. Flu like symptoms, but each day got a liittle bit better, and i was okay by the second week. I am a month out now, but I still feel tired and weak. Hearing about all these people going right back to work amazes me. But it just goes to show that it depends on the individual. I am older (59), I have heart issues and spinal stenosis. So, consider me on the other side of the recovery timeline. Good luck to you. -
Am I stupid..hmmm
lmmore replied to TiffanyIsMajor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm with PNW218, measure out 4 oz. eat slowly. I chew and swallow each bite before i pick up the fork again, and then wait a few seconds. I can tell when I am full, I feel like I have enough in me.......and it may only by 3 oz, so I leave the rest. I never eat after I have had enough. I still new enough to worry about the seam opening. LOL -
Doesn't sound like you're adhering to the VSG diet. I cannot have Bread, or Tortillas yet. You're supposed to be packing in the portein and water at this point. Are you puposely sabotaging yourself?

Amazing. I can cross my legs now, without having to lift them up with my arms. I have not been able to do that in five years. I can bend down and not have to have something near me to help push me up. I can get into the car without feeling like I am a contortionist. I can fit in a restaurant booth without my stomach touching the table. Amazing.

Friends Questioning if this is the right surgery!
lmmore replied to hockey66's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My ex-mother in-law went pretty crazy over me doing this. She begged me not to. But, I did my research and decided that the band was not a good choice because of the risks with it shifting and things gettting stuck in the pouch, etc. I decided against RNY because there are 2 connections to worry about, you no longer have the pyloric valve, and the stuck in the pouch problems. The sleeve offered a pretty easy recovery no mapabsortion issues (that's a big deal) and basically is just a smaller stomach of what I had before. If for some reason, God forbid, this does not work in the long run, I can always do a RNY later. So for me, there really was no question of which way to go. -
Excellent posts. Tiffy, as usual you have the best info. My surgeon said NEVER, but now I am going to question him on it. Thanks
