    I'm so confused!

some people do not worry so much about the carbs in the beginning. It' getting the protein and liquids in that help you to heal. You're doing real good. There's nothing wrong with adding SF pudding. I find it soothes the tummy for some reason. Is their any way of changing you shakes out with ones with less carbs? Best of luck.

    Ugh...

be sure to get the 60-70 G of protein in you. It's important for you to heal. What has you doctor said about that? do they have you on a program? Best of luck.
  3. Awesome. Amazing. Keep up the good work, and major congrats to you!

    Not Happy.

Follow the rules! You shouldn't have taken out your stitches........you all infected because of it. If you're doing that, then what other things are you doing not on the program. This procedure is only a tool, and does not solve any other problems you may have. Get enough protein to heal 60-70 G. get enough liguids, don't eat solid foods. Dont' screw up your opportunity.
  5. I would still go to the ER. You don't want to mess with this. Also, the hydrocodone had APAP and that is bad for your new stomach. So, go to ER , don't take any chances. You don't want to get dehydrated. They will immediately hook you up to saline. Good luck.
  6. I don't know if this will help at all. But I have found that I think about food because I am only 5 1/2 weeks along, so I can't eat everything yet. I have to plan and THINK about what I can eat. And then after all that, I don't know what I want.........so I end up having a hard boiled egg, or some cheese, etc. I need to get into doing the recipe thing. We tried Tiff's Salsibury Steak and that was good.

    No appetite at all.....

For shakes, I have a powder Pro rated vanilla that isn't too bad. But, what i really like is the premade Pure Protein Frost Chocolate. It has 35 grams of protein with only 4g carbs. I warm it in the morning for hot cocoa. Works great for me. you can get it at Trader Joes and even GNC carries it.

    Am I cheating?

If you want crunchy, your tummy may be able to handle Pork Rinds.........all protein no carbs and it satisfies that snack urge. I only suggest this because when you ead them, they kind of go soft real easy I think.
  9. I know that was hard for you, and brave. But, i kinda got the impression from your first post that your mother was the type of mom that would be there for you. So, best wishes on your new adventure.

    Ugh...

I was the same way. I felt like I had the noro virus (i caught it on a cruise once) and the feeling lasts about that long. It's good that you are still in the hospital, because they keep you hydrated. You don't have to worry as much about getting your liquid intake until you get home. That will be the struggle for the first week. But, trust me, everyday you will feel a little bit better. I felt like i had the flu for two weeks, and then it went away. Still, because of all of this, you will most likely feel weak and fatigued. I hope you don't have to rush back to work. Good luck.

    No Food Days?

I just vomitted for the first time since surgery. Over a piece of toast with peanut butter on it of all things. Guess my tummy didn't like the peanut butter. Anyway, I am going to do the shakes today because I don't want to upset my stomach.

    NSV shout outs

I am starting to wear shirts that I haven't been able to wear for five years )
  14. Careful on your piggin out. You need to lose weight before the surgery. I went on a very low carb diet pre op, but i treated myself to one of my favorite meals every third day, saying not farewells, but , until we meet again. It was great, but i made sure i did not gain any weight. Try your best to follow what your surgeon wants for you, and you WILL be successful. Best of luck.
  15. Congrats! I can hear how happy you are from your update, and that's refreshing.

    Linda's update!!!

How awful. Linda had everyone's worst nightmare. I am so happy that she will have a full recovery, I remember it was touch and go for awhile there. But, many here have been saying their prayers for her. She must be so weak right now. Best wishes to all.

    Fighting for Success

    Excellent letter. Run with it.
  19. You look great Tiff. Have a great time.
  20. Great posts! I wish eveyone well. I think I am lucky that this forum is enough for me. I never identified myself as obese. I was thin my whole life until I hit 46 and then went through metabolic syndrome. My blood pressure went up, bad cholesterol, angina....my whole body went nutso. I had quintuple bypass, three stents, etc, and i gained 10 lbs a year after that. whether i dieted or not. So, I just kept on buying bigger and nicer clothes and never looked at myself, and therefore always thought of the me as before. And now, i see myself getting back to the old me. Kinda weird.

    I am bummed out......

My back surgeon responded back to me, with a terse "I would prefer to wait". I know he is looking out for my safety, but I will not give up. More to follow......

    OhYeah! Protein Drinks

I'll get back on my band wagon. The Isopure flavored drink that comes in a six pack of different flavors, is 40 grams of protein, zero carbs, 160 calories, and 20 oz. I pour half a bottle, 10 oz, and that gives me 20 grams of protein with only 80 calories. It's a great supplement to my protein. But, some people don't like the tart taste. If you like starbursts candy, that you'll like this. It makes your tongue pucker a bit.

    Yummy low fat pasta salad

Thanks Tiffkins, we tried your salisbury steak recipe last weekend, and really liked it. It just sounds weird adding pork rinds to ground round, but it worked! A new substitute for bread crumbs.
  24. I do the same. I use ramekins for portion size on beans, etc. , salad plates for all meals, and small forks and spoons. I like the presentation to look like a full meal, and it makes me enjoy eating more. But then again, we use cloth napkins everyday for the same reason. )

    I am bummed out......

Swiftflow, I sent an email to my doctor with the information you provided. I am curious as to how he will respond. I really appreciate your idea. It's given me hope. I have had this debilitating pain for a year now, and I want to get back on my feet again and live a normal semi-pain free life. Thanks again.
